I did think the plague and Hindenburg references were a bit edgy but honestly thought the shuttle thing was some inside joke about them sabotaging Myth or something since Myth had the little vid where they were flying around in space on a ship. So is it confirmed that every million subs you get to make a request or is it just the first million? I'm curious what her request will be since she doesn't seem to be the musical type, she had her recent concert but I think she prefers being an entertainer to a singer.

As someone who's worked with Japanese companies before, let me hypothesize what went down:

1) Only JP management screened the vid.
2) At some point, one of the English-speaking staff saw it and mentioned in passing, "Oh, that's like the Challenger disaster."
3) The JP staff, not knowing anything about the disaster, ask for context.
4) JP management assume this must be some kind of extremely sensitive national tragedy in the US and quickly axe the video without first investigating whether or not Americans actually care or are offended.

JP media companies are, as a rule, very wary of depicting things that mirror real-life tragic events.
