I think Mark Zucc is a twat too but I’m honestly so fucking sick of these assholes being all smug about “the irrelevance of Facebook.” They’ve been saying that for over a decade and it’s still the most popular social network, because normies use it. I’m mostly a normie. I don’t have a single person in my large circle of real-life people that use Twitter with any regularity, and I only know two people who don’t have FB accounts- and they’re both the obnoxious “what if phone but too much” types who still vomit all over Instagram every day. Obviously all social media sux, but I have been able to become gainfully self-employed doing work I enjoy largely through the use of the dreaded FB, and I’ve been on it so long my algorithm just serves me up a pleasant “today in internet” feed.
I suspect narcs and cows loathe FB because you actually have to kinda sorta be yourself and be friends with real life people on there, unlike Twitter where you can just bullshit endlessly amongst like-minded dipshits who wont call you out for it (and post Islamic content.)

This. Having a place for grandma to post family pictures and talk to all the family will be solid business forever. And everyone has to maintain a Facebook account to keep grandma happy. It's not glamorous, but it's solid business.
But also on top of this, Facebook basically is the internet in big chunks of the third world due to a lack of network neutrality in those places. In some countries, local businesses just forgo having a real website in lieu of having a Facebook page because everyone's cell phone plan comes with fast Facebook access.
Really zuckerbot can fuck around with all his dumb ideas and as long as whoever he's got running the classic Facebook division is halfway competent, the company will trundle along.
Also I'd point out that Facebook also has more culturally neutral moderation policies. Sites like, say, Twitter process everything through an insane lefty silicon valley perspective, which doesn't remotely work in other parts of the world. Don't get me wrong, they still do control speech, but it's in a way that's non specific and very generous in things westerners would be horrified at.
Facebook correctly recognizes that it isn't realistic to apply westerner standards of Islamophobia to hindus bitching about pakis or vice versa, so in order to dominate the globe, they had to come up with very generic standards. Ie no violent threats or explicit slurs. And that's why they've dominated the planet while twitter is just a dumb toy for a small number of western elites.
Really I think the Arab spring on Twitter wouldn't have happened if Twitter employees had a decent Arabic department, because I'm sure they'd be horrified at what they were tacitly enabling.
It's actually Twitter notifying them because of German law. And yeah, it's just Germany.
