What's a good Linux distro for someone who's only ever used Windows? Want to mess around with one in a virtual box as prep for when Windows 10 support ends.
The go-to's have been covered and since you're playing in VMs it's consquence free to try a few or all of the big ones and see what you like. Mint tries to make it easy for Windows users specifically so I'd recommend that to start.

Are there any sites/maps that can let me look at a map and show its speed limit and/or show a route that, for example, only go up to 60 mph?

In theory it would be possible to generate this from OpenStreetMap data, but unless you want to zoom right into the maps on some map browsers that will show speed layered on the map elements or manually query road features, I imagine you'd need to download the data from OSM and manually set up map layers yourself in something like QGIS to show different speed limits with different symbology. If you wanted routing you'd need to find something that would allow you to apply the right restrictions.

Remember when KF was in greyscale for less than a day?

This may sound wat, but is there a browser plugin for Firefox that can make any web page greyscale?

There might be, but I'm not sure. I use a nifty program called f.lux as a blue light filter for my computer. It has lots of different options though, including greyscaling your entire screen. It's helpful for late-night tasks and writing.

Since GPUs don't have VGA anymore, would it be possible to use the VGA port on my motherboard so my iGPU outputs the display while still using my regular GPU to power everything?

I'm fairly certain only the GPU running everything outputs a signal. I haven't experimented with anything like this, so my guess is you'd get a "no signal" on the mobo VGA out until you switched to the iGPU. If your display has a VGA plug you can get different converters.

Yes and no and maybe. I didn't think it was possible but I was helping a user here (over DM) who was building his first PC and he did it by accident and was very annoyed. It was an intel system, he had plugged his monitor into the IGP port because it was the first port he saw, and it actually worked sort-of like Optimus on laptops. The downside was that he had to individually configure games to launch on the GeForce. Every time. It worked just fine other than that. Did not think that was possible. It was a couple of years ago so maybe it no longer works, or it only works on certain D3D versions, or drivers, or...

I wonder if Linux has any easy ways to do it, since it's my main OS.

Another easy way to greyscale your screen without installing anything is to use the color filters setting built in to Windows 10 & 11 and set the Greyscale filter.

Is it possible to access a browser's API (firefox for example) through console or a scriptlet? Let's say I wanna have an automated task, and part of it includes opening a browser, managing extensions etc. Is there something I can use, kind of like Puppeteer(which also allows testing chromium extensions)? Headless browser is not what I need(I think?), the tasks don't involve crawling or visiting any webpages, it's all about being able to manage settings and extensions.

is this for other computers or your own computer?
If its for other computers im going to say no.
and if its on the fly im going to say no.

If its for your own pc, and youre not opposed to restarting firefox, you can edit the prefs.js file

I'm trying to set up my network over coax: a computer upstairs, through the walls to the router downstairs. I have two Frontier WF-803FT MoCA 2.5 adapters. Downstairs, connecting a laptop to an adapter to an adapter to the router works, so all the pieces are functional. If I connect the adapters to the coax ports on my wall, nothing happens; the MoCA indicator on the adapters does not light up. What do?

Just to cover all the bases: You are powering the adapters, right? If you connect to coax from a different room, does it work then? The instructions for the adapters should include steps to browse to the adapters themselves via IP address for some configuration options (I seem to recall having to do this with my own MOCA adapters), have you tried that?

Yes, "PWR" and "ETH" are illuminated. I'm told the configuration page should be at 192.168.188.251 but there's no response there. My guess was it has something to do with the way coax is set up in the apartment but I don't know how to troubleshoot that. I do have access to the closet where the various coax cables connect to a hub (but some are unconnected) though. I've never used the coax for cable TV or anything else.

I want to make our old TV "smart" since its antenna input just gave up (it is over 10 years old already, other than that is still working flawlessly). What are the options that I could get the best bang for my buck?

Editing the prefs.js file will do the trick for now, thanks. I'm pretty fucking retarded for not thinking about that, its so simple.

Oh, I assumed you were doing this in a house. Each of the coax cables in your wall likely terminates in that network closet, then. The other end of that cable is where the other MOCA adapter needs to go.
