Anime and Manga for Girls - Because men sperging about their big titty waifus and their monster girl harem isekais gets old

Is anyone watching the Tokyo mew mew reboot? I started watching it for the nostalgia even though I forgot most of the original from when I watched that as a kid and it's pretty entertaining. Apparently it has both a late night airing and a morning airing so it would be pretty heartwarming if japanese moms can watch it with their daughters.

sailor moons will wanna watch this lol

I tried to watch the first part of this and couldn’t. She used Haruka and Michiru’s US dub names, and kept pretending SM was the first magical girl with action scenes as well as other stuff that was just wrong. I say this as an SM fag, the exact type she’s talking about when she goes over who grew up with the series, people to whom it is important.

I realize this is severely autistic of me and should just concentrate on whether she found Saban Moon or not. Which I hope she did but I have watched other “documentaries” of her and while she has done good for the lost media community (if emailing people for a ROM of shovelware counts, anyway) she also comes off as too self-congratulatory.

Apologies for the autism.

I never thought in my lifetime I would see this. For 20 years I have been wondering about it and now it is finally here and it really makes me really sad it didn't came out. The pilot makes me want more out of curiosity. I get why they didn't do it since it was cheaper to dub the anime, but still... I really would have loved this as a kid I would have had all of the dolls and play it with my friends and stuff.

It is nice that they found it, but at the same time I feel so... sad thinking about what could have been. Somewhere in another universe this is fondly remembered.

I don't even have interest in the media itself of the american sailor moon stuff, but the story about how to find it sometimes is way more interesting than the final product itself. It is a narrative, so all the first video and this one paints it very well, For example in this video when she talks with the producers of the live action/animation part was way more interesting than the final result.

you know, this one isn't even that bad. The shit that was supposed to be Gundam in the US is even more terrifying, and the feeling that americans ruins everything is completely valid after you watch this:

or even the starstorm with saint seiya that looks completely retarded

Not to derail the Sailor Moon discussion too much, but I have a recommendation.
It's a webcomic/webtoon, not a true manga, but Housekeeper has gone from "Meh. Zombie story with robots and a guess nazis maybe." to surprisingly... aretaic.

i demand all of you to IMMEDIATELY watch yokohama kaidashi kikou.

two episodes. 30 minutes each. one of the last traditionally animated animes ever published.
gave me a temporary zest for life after ~12 years of nonstop depression.

best ever. wish there was more.

I read Honey & Clover and thought it was kinda meh. Spoilers abound for this 10+ year old series.
  • Why is Ayu hung up on Mayama for literally 5-6 years? You can kinda understand why she likes him in the beginning but she's stuck on this guy for way too long. (maybe the pacing of time in the series was just too fast.)
  • Why does...uh...I forget the male "MC"'s name...Takemoto! SO. why does Takemoto love Hagu so much when they barely interact? I really liked his bike tour arc and his character was very grounded, except for his love of Hagu. Takemoto got sidelined hard for a lot of the series and the romance is underdeveloped.
  • Why does Hagu love Morita? I didn't even know she did until the very end. Morita is a joke character for the whole series except when his family history is pulled out of nowhere at the end. Morita loves money more than anything, his "love" for Hagu is unbelievable. He only loves himself and money.
  • Why does nobody tell Hagu she can train her left hand? Lefties spent a lot of history being forced into using their rights and there's even paraplegics out there who do simple paintings with their mouths holding the brush. Why does nobody tell Hagu she can just use her other hand? If she wants to fix her right then fine, but it's not like she can never paint again.
  • Mayama is a shit stalker man. Goody for him he stops Rika from killing herself but he's still a stalker. He's not such a great guy, Ayu. Why are you obsessed with him?
The latter third of the series in general was the worse end. Would I recommend it? Probably not unless you have nothing to read.

I agree, my issue is that I just don't like the chick making the documentary. Far too much is spent on her waffling on about 'I kept waiting for the email, and was unsure if I would get it, and then I did! I was over the moon!' while filming herself acting distressed. I understand she is trying to make a name for herself in Youtube and putting her face out there is a necessary part of it, but I still hate it. My interest is on Saban Moon, not her shitty acting.

Anyway.

Anyone still read Skip Beat? Will it outlive us all? And did anyone see the new Rose of Versailles project?

It wasn't even that bad, it was alright.

I dont have an interest in sailor moon but I think those live action series from the 00's kinda fascinating. Other than that I kinda like watching that woman paint over sailor moon resin figures. That is cool as fuck

It's been 5 years since I paused my reading of Skip Beat. I bet if I get caught up nothing will have really moved. It's the shoujo version of Dragon Ball like that ain't it?

One thing I've noticed is that I've been into a lot of seinen manga without realizing it. Seinen just means "adult man" so you'd think that demographic would mean shonen but on steroids but...it's not always? I guess manga is also marked that way based on what magazine it's published in regardless of genre. Series like Arte, A Bride's Story, and others that seen like josei. I like that they focus on characters growing, interacting, and seeing them achieve their goals. It's a nice alternative to the glut of shonen battle manga in mainstream media. Not that those are all bad.

Horimiya counts as 'shonen' despite being a very sweet, completely SFW highschool romcom just because it is published in MonthlyG Fantasy. It's funny! Those labels can feel very silly at times.

If anyone's into yuri/GL/whatever the hell lesbians are being called these days, please check out "The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy At All", which I guess counts as a webcomic, since it is published via Twitter? TBH I am not even sure it will be a proper romance, but so far it is an intensely fucking cute & quick read.
