Who are you referring to? Made me curious because I had not heard of Kobo's roommate being discovered yet. The usual websites are speculating this chick Rainych, damn, over 2 million subscribers! But Kobo is not following her on Twitter.

I am not entirely convinced, Rainych's english skills appear well above Kobo's. The voices are similar, but not entirely the same. It could be really good voice acting or a voice changer at work for that annoying Kobo brat voice.

RE: Avatar design - She was no stranger to controversy during her time streaming. The biggest thing is she would get targeted by the usual Twitter mob for her model whenever those waves of harrassment were going around despite the fact she herself is a tiny asian IRL. She eventually did end up body posting to try and shut them up.

Aside from that, her biggest problem (IMO) is she was far too /here/. She would frequent the /wvt/ (western vtuber) thread in /trash/. With some archive diving, I found out she'd Tweet things that sounded normal but would basically act as a confirmation she was posting. And would regularly care WAY too much about her image on those communities. Though honestly, I don't know if that was more the circles she was with at the time or her own choices, so don't let my characterization color that too much. Around the time of the Spooki incident she decided she was done with that place though and backed away.

I don't know what came first, her frequenting there or the boyfriend posting, but she had a dedicated anti that would shit up the thread regularly with a copypasta regarding it. (one example of the post. There's tons of them in the archives)

So either way, she had some dedicated haters that really got under her skin. Overall, the /wvt/ group seems very much like crabs in a bucket, so I'm glad she was able to just fuck off out of there.

Spoiler: Behind the Avatar

A lot of the information herein is from my recollections watching Shirara, so forgive me for lack of documentation in places where I can't back up everything.

Shirara had a year of nasty stress. Based on how she talked, she lives in SoCal but has family in Canada. She worked as a lead in some capacity as a tech engineer for a rather major company. One that was large enough she guaranteed we'd heard of it. She was rather miserable at the job and they seemed to work her to misery.
Mid-writing update:

She mentioned working for Tesla (if I remember correctly as a technical writer) , they had 2 rounds of layoffs at the CA plant in late 2018 and early 2019, so thats why she may have a bone to pick with them.

I'd always assumed it was Tesla, but nice to hear it confirmed. She worked there until some point in mid-2021, I think around the time her grandma died.

On that subject, a great deal of the stress she experienced in 2021 was the death of her Grandmother. Grandma was was the person who raised her and seemed to be the matriarch of the family.

She ended up moving to Canada for a while to help with the family, but Grandma didn't make it and died shortly after moving to Canada. She ended up staying there for a while, and was hamstrung by a subpar streaming set up for a while. They didn't even have enough room for her to live with the family so she was stuck in a camper the entire time.

On top of that, this is the time when A) she had the boyfriend goof mid June/July, and B) she was totally long distance from her partner the entire time she was in Canada (3+ months).

Her model upgrade/redesign also got delayed dramatically to mid year when she wanted it done in Spring IIRC, so that added to everything else causing her stress as Shirara.

Finally, when everything seemed to clear up and she finally premiered with the new model, her Grandfather's health took a dive. I believe she had gone back to SoCal briefly, but she was right back to Canada to take care of him. This was right before the whole SpookiVT incident happened. So she was dealing with all of that bullshit while caring for her geriatric grandfather. Needless to say, she was stressed to hell and back.

She did talk briefly about her life outside of vTubing and the job with Tesla. Two major things stood out as interesting.
1) She apparently had a rather prolific and successful job as a resin artist. Making cutesy stuff like this:

She apparently had to quit the occupation cold turkey however as the fumes from the resin had REALLY bad health effects on her. I presume she didn't live in a place that would give her the proper ventilation necessary to do the work.

2) Apparently she had been a hairs breadth away from becoming a member of a pop idol group. She tried out for this for a while apparently, but always seemed to come up just short.

Not to be that guy who screams about numbers and metrics, but they aren't doing great when it comes to live viewership. Most have evened out to a flat 1k or lower. Better than your average indie for sure, but when you consider the peak viewership they got for the debut streams compared to Holostars, the pre-debut sub ratio surpassing all prior Niji waves and even the sheer amount of airtime they got handed (a fair number of talents went on vacation or took part in additional work requirements since the debut) and it's got to sting a little knowing you can barely match the yabbing fish.

That's where most of Ethyria, minus Nina, were sitting 3-6 months ago as well, and where Petra and Reimu still sit, so it's not really unusual. The only one I even remember debuted is Maria and I need a damn equalizer for my speakers to reliably watch her.
