Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

That test is very flawed. The scores are based on only the specific breed they are testing. In simple terms, Bully breeds are scored based on tendencies of other bully breeds. Labs are scored against other labs. Like you said, more propaganda to protect breeds specifically created to kill and be aggressive without sign or warning.

I think they were bred that way to avoid 'telegraphing' emotional clues to the other dog what they were about to do before/during a fight. Kind of a bred-in poker face.

I'm guessing this probably also meant that they bred out the normal responses to other dogs' appeasement behaviors, because you can't have a dog that stops fighting when the other dog shows submission or indicates that it doesn't enjoy the 'play.'

I have a neighbor with a golden retriever that is really territorial and goes apeshit when you walk by. But he knows exactly where the property line is and stays on his side of it. He's just letting you know to stay off his side. That's what a good boi does.

Not to powerlevel here, so tophat me if you will, but I was raised by a mother who actually bred and "showed" Golden Retrievers.

She also taught a bi-weekly dog obedience class that I was forced to go to from an incredibly young age and into my adolescence, because she couldn't be bothered to leave me and my kid brother with a sitter. So, from a very young age I was around these dogs constantly. I even was shown "breedings" by these sick folks/breeders to "teach" me about the birds and the bees, as if it were some kind of health lesson. Spoiler alert: Dog breeding is just rape. And when these mutants try to have their rape babies they can't ever do it without human intervention. The whole thing is a sick practice and I'm sure if my mom was still alive we probably wouldn't be friends anymore because I think what she involved herself with when it came to these animals is absolutely barbaric.

Now, after all of that personal history, I have no great love for Goldens. Probably less, tbh, than the average person that wasn't exposed to that "dog world." Goldens are big, retarded, slobbering beasts that will instantly go for your crotch and/or knock you flat on your back if you weigh less than they do and all the while the adults in the room will go, "awwwww!" while the terrified child is being scratched and sexually assaulted by their tongue and claws. ‘Trying to be a good citizen’: Woman fined $500 after taking lost dog to Lake County Animal Shelter

A Lake County woman says she’s facing a $500 fine after she tried to rescue a dog.

Hunter File says she was just trying to do the right thing when she was on her way to Publix on the fourth of July and saw a dog in the middle of the road.

“There’s no way you could just leave a dog,” File said.

The mother of three says she took the dog home for the night, but wasn’t able to keep it.

“I ended up contacting Lake County Animal Services and they would not pick the dog up because I found the dog in Orange County,” File said.

File says she attempted to contact Orange County Animal Services, but they took several days just to call her back.

When another attempt to meet with representatives of the Orange County Shelter fell through, File says she posted the lost dog to Facebook then took it back to the Lake County Shelter, closer to where she lives.

“We live so close to the border of Orange County and Lake County,” File said. “Lake County is closest to me. That’s what seemed natural to me.”

Days later, File was slapped with a $500 fine due to her providing false information to animal control about where the dog was found.

“I was just trying to be a good citizen and turn a dog in to a shelter conveniently located to me.”

File admits she lied on the intake form and said the dog was found in Lake County.

When asked how they learned File had lied, Animal Services released a statement saying, “Without discussing details, we have a good relationship with law enforcement.”

The shelter wouldn’t say how often they issue similar fines.

File has a hearing scheduled for September 1st, unless she decides to pay the fine before that.

A former employee of ACCT Philly, the city’s primary animal shelter, has been charged with felony cruelty for injuring a dog named Saint who was subsequently euthanized because of the injury, the District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Terrell Walton, 30, was charged with aggravated animal cruelty and a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty in the case of Saint, whose treatment and death caused an uproar among animal-welfare activists last year and led to a lawsuit filed against ACCT Philly by the pit bull’s owner.

In a statement issued Friday night, ACCT Philly said that what happened to Saint “is heartbreaking and unacceptable. And to now have additional information that indicates the injury happened while in our care is deeply troubling. Nothing we can say will change this, or eliminate the deep hurt Saint’s family has experienced.”

The nonprofit organization added: “In 2021, we implemented changes in policy to prevent a tragic situation like this from ever happening again. Additionally, upon learning that additional information had led to cruelty charges, we arranged for a two-day dog handling training by outside experts for our entire staff. We will continue to conduct this expert training annually, in addition to ongoing internal training.”

The leadership team in charge of ACCT Philly at the time of Saint’s death has since left the perennially beleaguered and chronically underfunded nonprofit.


Online court records show Walton was arrested Thursday and was being held on Friday at the city’s Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in lieu of 10% of $25,000 bail.

On Aug. 4, a city police officer transported Saint to ACCT Philly after a man who had Saint with him was arrested following a traffic stop, Jane Roh, spokesperson for District Attorney Larry Krasner, said in an email summarizing the case.


“Saint was observed to be in fair condition with no visible injuries, and showed no aggressive behavior,” Roh said.

At the ACCT Philly facility at 111 W. Hunting Park Ave. in North Philadelphia, Walton was the employee who was supposed to remove Saint from the police vehicle, Roh said.

“Video footage showed Walton using a rabies or catch pole — a metal pole with a cord loop at one end that can be tightened to help control or restrain animals — to retrieve Saint,” Roh said.

The police officer “observed Walton making jabbing motions into the [police] vehicle, and then heard Saint yelp or cry, which compelled the officer to return to his car,” Roh said.


As Walton removed Saint from the police vehicle, the officer saw blood and fecal matter in the back and on the ground that had not been there previously, Roh said.

“As Saint was taken into ACCT, the officer attempted to get Walton’s information to report what he had observed, but was prevented by an ACCT employee from following the animal into the building,” Roh said.

The ACCT employee who blocked the police officer was not identified.

Saint suffered a mandibular fracture — a broken jaw — and was subsequently euthanized, Roh said.

Saint’s co-owner Tiffany Lavelle alleged that she attempted to take Saint home before the dog was euthanized but was told by ACCT Philly that she could not without an appointment from a veterinarian to treat the broken jaw. Lavelle did not have an appointment, she said. Saint reportedly was euthanized within 12 hours of arriving at ACCT Philly.

Lavelle, who runs a Facebook page called Justice for Saint, said in a post Friday that she was “happy” about the announcement of criminal charges, and she thanked the Pennsylvania SPCA, which conducted the initial cruelty investigation. She also thanked Jordan Strokovsky, the lawyer who filed her still-pending lawsuit.

“This is the first [step] to change and I am definitely not stopping here,” Lavelle wrote.

In its statement, ACCT Philly noted that it “cares for more than 15,000 animals each year as the only open intake shelter and animal care and control provider in the City of Philadelphia. Since 2019, almost 9 out of every ten animals have been adopted, returned to their owners, or sent to rescue.”

The fact that they wouldn't let the officer come inside the building and get a report from Walton about what happened proved they did wrong. The owner couldn't take Saint home because they didn't have a vet appointment. But when they arrived at ACCT they had no idea what had happened. The family is white if anyone is wondering. From the videos Saint looks like a pretty nice dog.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Tiffany Lavelle has been demanding answers since August about the death of her dog.
Saint was taken to ACCT Philly by police after Lavelle's then-boyfriend was involved in a traffic stop.

Lavelle says she thought her dog would be safe, but now is taking legal action against the shelter.
"He had his head down, tail between his legs, and his jaw was hanging from his face," said Lavelle.
Saint's jaw was broken, and Lavelle says that was the last time they saw Saint alive.

She says his condition changed drastically from the time he arrived in the care of ACCT Philly. When the couple tried to pick up the dog, they were told they needed proof of a veterinary appointment.
When they went back the next day, Saint had been euthanized.
Jordan Strokovsky is a catastrophic injury and wrongful death attorney. He filed a lawsuit Wednesday, alleging negligence and fraud.

"Next thing you know, this calm dog in the backseat of a car has a broken jaw, which we believe could only have occurred by the application of blunt force," said Jordan Strokovsky. "It's that next day that they found out that ACCT, without any calls for concern, any phone calls to the family, they put Saint down. They killed Saint."
In a statement issued, ACCT Philly says in part: "We have previously conceded that this case was a tragedy and that we changed a policy to prevent a similar sequence of events from happening again...The investigations have not yet determined how Saint's injury occurred."

One of the changes ACCT Philly has made is allowing an owner to reclaim an animal without securing vet care.

As you may be aware, we have yet to receive results from investigations into the incident by the Philadelphia Police Department and the PSPCA. We have previously conceded that this case was a tragedy and that we changed a policy to prevent a similar sequence of events from happening again.The investigations have not yet determined where or how Saint's injury occurred. That will be an important factor as we evaluate how to respond to the lawsuit.As for our internal investigation, aside from the immediate change made to ensure a tragic situation like the Saint case doesn't happen again, we have found our processes and procedures align with best practices in animal care.

This whole debacle has made ACCT look really bad. Some people on lost and found pet Facebook groups here are afraid to take dogs to ACCT now and being deterred from doing so could prevent owners from finding their dogs. It is the only place in the city where you can surrender dogs. The SPCA does not do intake directly anymore. They are overwhelmed with dogs and cats. Most of the dogs are pitbulls. That's just the way it is in urban areas. They had a coon hound of all things available once. There's one around here and I think it's the same dog.

Since you can get pitbulls easily there's a high turnover. Mass breeding of dogs leads to a ton of behavior and health problems. Then unwanted pitbulls in shelters are damaged goods and the damage gets passed on to you. That doesn't mean every shelter pitbull is going to eat you for lunch though. But you should exercise caution with these adoptions. Honestly, given how bad the cat situation is, I'd recommend you adopt an adult cat instead of taking a dog that doesn't suit you. Kitten wrangling is a pain in the arse anyway.

If you have no experience working with traumatized dogs you shouldn't even think about adopting one. That's why these pitbull mom white ladies are doing the wrong thing for the right reason. They aren't wrong for wanting to help the dogs or being an advocate. But many of them are just adopting psychologically damaged dogs to prove these points with no prior experience on how to handle them and when to say "No. This dog is not for me".

We have a Golden Pei. So he's part Shar Pei. You have the retardation of a Golden with the guard dog abilities of a Shar Pei. It's a good combo. He's almost 17 and still pretty active for that age with no health problems. And I have to put my pads in a separate bag and drop them off in the public compactors because of the pad eating thing. My German shepherd, Rottweiler and Jack chi never did that.
