Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

Very often you can shoot down their arguments by vouching for motorcycles for personal transport. they cause less congestion, get the best fuel mileage out of motorised transport, they can filter through traffic in most states, and you can park something like 10 motorcycles in the space of 5 cars. But they do not want to acknowledge this.
This is true and I agree that motorcycles should be promoted as an alternative to cars, but they're also incredibly unsafe. They travel at the speed of a car while only offering the protection of a bicycle. A lot of people would be willing to swap their car for a bicycle or a train ticket but considerably less would be willing to accept the massively increased risks that come with riding a motorcycle.

None of them consider the elderly either when going on an anti car rampage
Yes they do? Mobility scooters were originally designed with them in mind. Also, many elderly people are not fit to drive for various reasons, and are in fact one of the groups who are most disenfranchised and isolated by car-centrism.

or the fact that up to 5 people travelling to a destination benefit a car, or workers needing to haul tools to a site, or insulation from bad weather etc etc the car and mass transportation revolutionised the world and theyre seething about it
Nobody except a tiny radical minority are calling for car ownership to be banned completely. Most people just think it would be nice to have more options other than driving, something that isn't true in many places in Canada and the US right now. In rural areas needing a car is understandable, but the fact that there are cities where a car is a necessity should be considered ludicrous. Why is having more choice in transportation a bad thing?

A motorcycle isn't more dangerous than a bicycle if you ride responsibly and don't be a retard wheelie'ing at 20 over the speed limit. For one, you have a full protective suit as opposed to just a helmet and kneepads, and is arguably safer since you can reach speeds that other road users can, so there's minimal risk of being squashed by a bus or ran over by a Tyrone. There's also more contact between the tyres owing to their increased diametre, more powerful brakes, and a bigger road presence on the whole.

These Urbanites also love Pay-to-Use electric scooters, and have been pushing for every city to buy a ton of them for people to use.

However, the people have been raging against the Urbanists and have been tossing the scooters into the ocean.

I cannot begin to explain how much I hate these things and how glad I am that they’ve mostly been removed from larger cities surrounding me.

Another fantastic idea…. In thought. The execution is another story entirely. I remember seeing these for the first time ten years ago and they seemed like an enjoyable and fun way for pedestrians to go about the city. The people who use these things are mostly huge assholes though with the vast majority of them being drunk. I would see these things abandoned in front of nice buildings, and sometimes they almost formed a barricade which prohibited people from entering or exiting a shop, or made it at least more than a minor inconvenience.

One of the funniest things I have ever seen with my own two eyes involved one of these shitty scooters. I was walking downtown after leaving a bar, and a group of Hispanic individuals are walking out of a nearby club. One of these scooters was just haphazardly discarded next to a trash can. This huge hamplanet of a woman miraculously fitting her hocks into stiletto heels wobbled over to the scooter and picked it up. Her entourage urged her against riding it, but the beast dug into her purse and after three minutes, cycled through a valid credit card and started her ride. I’ve watched a ton of Jackass in my youth, and I’ve seen my fair share of videos where people eat shit on treadmills. As she stood on it, the scooter slowly inched forward, and she began to lose her balance in slow motion. Picture watching Rey Mysterio trying to knock over the Big Show, how he just kinda staggers around flailing his arms. After about thirty solid seconds of this, one of her heels break and she tumbles into the trash can face first. The scooter eventually just falls over. Nice waste of five dollars. The bin was mounted to the ground so it didn’t move, but she slowly lurched upward and began to throw the fuck up all inside of it. Props to the woman for not wasting herself on the streets. She sounded like a very loud dying giraffe and I’m surprised it didn’t draw police attention. I didn’t want to get shot so I had to hurriedly walk away with my head in my jacket to conceal my laughter, but her pals seemed to be at least slightly amused as they just let the saga unfold.

Oh shit yeah I been waiting for a thread like this!

My biggest gripe with modern city planning is, well, the lack of it. All the neighborhoods built here up until the 1960s were basically mixed use. They all had schools, shops, community centers, factories/offices and bars within walking distance. Now they build everything as mega complexes in one part of the city, so you basically have to drive. Lots of new neighborhoods you can't even really leave on foot.

I would probably be less mad about cars if they didn't keep making them more expensive and more locked behind DRM.

Yep pretty much. I personally don't really care who is right, all I know is there's a ton more autism and shit to laugh at on the urbanist side. Maybe I might add something about certain figures like Randall O'Toole who's arguably just as dumb as urbanists except holding opposite viewpoints.

I love how you can make anything sound weird by reducing them to the sum of its parts. In fact that's what earlier xkcd comics did but now I see Randall Munroe has (inadvertendly or not) jumped on the urbanist train.

Nice OP.
DUDE i just LOVE the hustle and bustle of the big city, it’s so DYNAMIC and makes me feel like i’m in one of my favourite TV SHOWS. you should totally come on down to my studio apartment, it’s got EXPOSED RED BRICK walls and everything, we can crack open a nice hoppy ipa or three and get crazy watching some cartoons on adult swim! and dude, dude, DUDE, we have GOTTA go down to the barcade- listen here, right, it’s a BAR where us ADULTS who do ADULTING can go DRINK. BUT!!!! it’s also an ARCADE like when we were kids, so we can play awesome VIDEO GAMES, without dumb kids bothering us. speaking of which megan and i have finally decided to tie the knot- literally -we’re both getting snipped tomorrow at the hospital, that way we can save money to spent more on ourselves and our FURBABIES. i’m fuckin JACKED man, i’m gonna SLAM this craft beer and pop open another one!!!
This is real. Live in a "hip and happening city" and you will see a ton of this.

But everyone, always, hates cyclists.
Cyclists usually don't ever have priority over others but they act as if they do.

Not surprising at all the interactions some of these people have with breadtubers. They seem to share common values.

Xkcd was almost never funny

I forgot about these scooters. People fucking hated them, there's a ton of compilations on youtube of people breaking them

The city I live in has bike lanes for the fags who want to do that. I don’t see why more cities don’t just adopt bike lanes. I rarely experience any traffic because of it. Win-win for everyone.
The one thing I agree with NotJustBikes on is bike lanes are dumb. What if we took a sidewalk, made it twice as wide, and called it a bike path? These retards would cream their pants and I wouldn't have to deal with cyclists pretending traffic laws don't apply to them. They want multi-modal streets, I want multi-modal sidewalks.
