Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

While I agree the art style has some calarts to it, and a few jokes that were cringey the sex jokes where rather tame (not that they still have them). The worst it got was the lizard people episode and even then it never showed any actual nudity. The show never shows any nudity whereas Big mouth shoves it at us every chance it gets. There was like one reference to toxic masculinity in the episode with the mi6 spy coupled with one use of the word mansplaining, and I can't recall a single white private joke. It's better than the usual brand of Netflix dribble if on a scale of big mouth to F is for family I'd say inside job is in the middle.
the 80s episode was pretty bad, as was the one making fun of flat earthers. as for the white privilege stuff, it's literally in the first episode where Brett gets past a secret service agent solely on the basis of him being a cis white guy, among others.

the 80s episode was pretty bad,
It did try to make 2 good points that more shows should make.

1. Nostalgia can be dangerous when it takes over your entire life and makes you chase after a past that was never really there.

2. There's always gonna be a generation that thought "they had it better than the next. " and will always want to go back that ideal time that never was.

Too bad both messages were botched entirely.

RIP Norm. Mike is a huge part of what makes that show fun, but Pigeon's banter carried it in the slower moments.
He was also great as norm the genie in fairly odd parents even if he was on a restraining bolt and couldn't be as biting as he usually is.

sure, but the shit with them being "racist" to Andre was retarded because 1) no one in the 80s called Asians "orientals" and 2) what he was experiencing wasn't actual racism. Again, this is from Alex Hirsch, who really is the lord of all CalArts bullshit. it's not the worst of it, but its not great in comparison to other animation.

But wasn't that her husband's cartoon instead of some weirdo who has a crush on her.
Yup Craig and Lauren worked on it together, and it wasn't just Frankie that was a homage to Lauren. You know how Mac is super sensitive to sugar and spazzes out when he eats it? Apparently Faust did the same thing as a kid.

See that's the rub with western animation taking inspiration from the writer's/creators own childhood. Sometimes you get cute little quirks like that, and other times you get a heavy does of "I members tgat! "member berries moments or some.... Telling info about their personal life.

Also side note; I know this isn't the south park thread, but I just love how one of the best things to come out of the early days of the shows downward spiral. Is the use of the term member berries and how they pretty much are the reason we see things like a Sega dreamcast in a pawn shop on amphibia, or even the entirety of the debacle that was chip and dale 2022.

I don’t mind Member berries, but it depends on context. A lot of great animation like Regular Show, Wreck-It-Ralph, a plethora of adult cartoons, LEGO, and others have used it.

To be fair to Amphibia, it wasn’t the first to have a 6th gen system referenced. Steven Universe had a GameCube in its backgrounds, which people used to figure out Amethyst’s height.

Wait, what the fuck. How they can figure out Amethyst's height with a fucking console?
Even in SU there's a reference of Cloud being stabbed by Sephiroth from FF7 as figurines in the background too... and i'm sure one of the first episodes when Pearl became a gem thanks for a nice stab from one of those holoPearls... for adding something.

The SU stuff was so particular too, like Steven has the limited edition of Wind Waker. He moved onto PS2 from the movie onward.

She is 30.1 inches tall. A GC has a height of 4.3 inches, and Amethyst is 7 GC tall.

Oh yeah I wasn't saying the idea in and of itself is harmful, it ranges from cute to annoying and only a few notable times does it cross the line into cringe. Like a lot of things lin life it's all about striking a happy medium.
Oh, is the version of the later seasons. I remember she being more short and fat.
But i thought Steven Universe was all about body positivity? Among other things.

Also In a bit of a cross from the comics thread Happy 60th birthday to Spider-Man (55 years in western animation)

My timeline is freaking out because the showrunner for the Tangled animated show, Chris Sonnenburg, has joined The Daily Wire. The line is that he was fired from Disney for a toxic work environment, but none of the people spreading this can post a scintilla of evidence of that. When directly asked, storyboard artists (amber), just innuendo their way out of it.

Because you guys are totally not trying to indoctrinate and groom kids into your gay pedo lifestyle through pushing this lgbtqrstuvwxyz crap in your creative works right....I know its poor form to quote a lolcow but in the words of PJW: "It's okay when WE do it!"
It was also big in social justice adult crowds because of the lesbianism.
Isn't that what most modern animation turns too when it wants to get popular in that circle?
