Sequential hermaphroditism is almost entirely absent from terrestrial vertebrates. The only ones that do are a few species of frogs. Otherwise, you're limited to insect, fish, and mollusks. But, even among those cases, as with perhaps the most commonly used example, clownfish, the sex-change mechanisms occur because of genetics, not in spite of them! Clownfish carry both sets of internal gonads, and undergo structural changes to activate one or the other set based on their position in the social hierarchy. They do not have a chromosomal sex determination system, rather, they are all effectively born intersex with male dominant endocrinology, and switch if they happen to be the biggest, baddest fish in the anemone. You could not say what sex a clown fish, or any sequential hermaphrodite, is, purely by examining their genome.
Similarly, there are many reptile species where the sex determination system is the temperature of the egg during incubation. These are also cases where genetically, you could not determine the sex of the individual, because their sex determination system is not chromosomal. Even in the few cases where the sex of the reptile is determined chromosomally before being altered by the temperature during incubation, the genetics of the animal are what provide the mechanism for suppressing the expression of sex characteristics because of temperature change. You cannot compare the sex determination of placental mammals to those of other species, even for something as closely linked to us as marsupials. The sex determination system is an evolved trait and varies wildly. We know what sex humans are because the biological mechanisms underlying sex in placental mammals are understood and known to follow certain patterns and rules, as it is by far the most studied sex determination system (not surprising).
There is also no animal that voluntarily amputates body parts and externally synthesizes hormones to try and change what their genetics are expressing! But you don't need to be too knowledgeable about biology to know that.

I'm shit at biology myself, but I don't know why they'd water down human sex to purely phenotype. As if genotypes are non-existent. No amount of chemicals will permanently change your DNA. When people dig up whatever is left of their skeleton hundreds of years from now, no one will at their remains and proclaim them a woman. All they are is a caricature that hopes (and fails) to emulate the opposite sex.
Hard to take a store whose goal is to help "express the feminine" seriously when they're showing penis pouch panties and an obvious see-through mesh in that skirt to flash the schlong.

You know this retard has zero real grasp of the basics of scientific inquiry, let alone biology. You can always tell when they trot out words like 'phenotype', that most people learn in 7th grade, as if it's the height of cutting edge scientific understanding and somehow sets them apart. You could find every term in this post inside the chapter introductions of a high school biology book. And it's not a case of condensing a complex subject into a more coherent summary; they are communicated nothing novel, nothing of value, and what they are trying to communicate is just flat-out wrong. They're just taking the pieties of the tranny crowd and draping the thinnest possible veneer of sciency-sounding terms over it for asspats. It's no wonder that nobody takes the sciences seriously anymore.

I find this kinda business a good thing though, stuff catered for troons exclusively. It's better than troons just ransacking the woman's section of a normal shop. Let them do their business without annoying the rest.

I'm so done with these assholes misusing scientific terms for their nonsense. Phenotype is so off base in their example it's not even wrong. Technically yes, surgery alters the phenotype of an organism, but treating that like it's a useful example makes the idea of a phenotype almost useless for explanatory purposes. Flamingos being pink is a phenotypic trait caused by the environment rather than genetics. So is me going on a flamingo-leg amputation spree. One of these is a useful idea/example for discussing how genotype isn't the be all and end all of determining traits of organisms, the other is not. It's just pure Dunning-Kruger, standing proudly on the top of Mount ignorance. It also conveniently overlooks that phenotype applies down to things like blood type, so the only way these people could claim to be phenotypically female is if you couldn't distinguish them apart at the cellular or molecular level. It's not just what a cursory examination with the naked eye reveals. Even the estradiol they shoot up is analogous but not identical to the type normally produced by humans. It just hits the same receptors.
I think this is what I hate most about trannies. I'm MATI. I hate this type of lazy pseudoscientific nonsense more than anything else.

Biological phenotype can change, but a phenotypically male human being NEVER changes into a phenotypically female human being. This "biological sex is a collection of phenotypes" smacks of Judith Butler's "gender is a iterated modules of performativity" bullshit.
"Overall I have more female traits than I do male". Name all the traits that are "male" or "female", my dear biologist.
Not to mention that such reptiles (such as crocodilians and turtles) still use the Sox9 / Wnt4 systems of sex determination. It is just that in humans the product of the Sry gene switches on Sox9 and inhibits Wnt4, whereas in such reptiles the switch is not genetic but environmental.
Biology (and Science in general) is less about individual peculiarities than general principles, which in Biology's case are conserved yet shaped by evolution. Sex, which belongs to the very core of Biology, is defined as the structures and functions that enable gametes to meet and fuse; what these structures and functions are -- the "phenotypes" -- can vary greatly between species, but one can recognize the theme behind. Phenotypically I have very little in common with a rooster or a male yew tree, yet biologists have no trouble recognizing we serve the same reproductive role in our respective species: we are of the same sex.
Why complicate things? If you stop pretending to be a guy, you'll be sure that people see you as a weird girl. No more double guessing and sleepless nights!
