Better Call Saul

Over at Autoadmit, a forum where a lot of lawyers (or LOLyers as a lot of the put it) and legal students post, the common view seems to be that BCS's final season saw a sharp decline in quality and the consensus view is that not only that Jimmy sabotaging his own deal made no sense, but the the deal itself made no sense:
I thought the whole point of his sob story was if he got one person to believe it that could stall the case and draw out the trial, and the feds wanted him caught and in jail more for show than anything

Still maybe their law consultant passing away had something to do with this

i don't care about it. but i like super hero shit and I like seeing the retard way they adapt shit from the comics. but sometimes it do get so garbage even I give up, quit flash and arrow awhile ago, still watch the ugly superman show though.

BCS and BB writing may not be perfect, but I don't think there's any arguing it's of a quality level 90% above literally anything else on TV?
Yeah im not a big tv watcher but BCS was an excellent ride 90 percent of the time. Season six was a step down but like 60 percent of it was decently entertaining, 20 percent was excellent and then 20 percent more was filler. Still better than what else is on tv now? Sandman? Our Flag Means Death? Killing Eve?

I disagree. One caveat, I happen to think Walt was right to let Jane die and people give her a pass because of the pussy pass. She was blackmailing a meth manufacturer and was an addict who was sucking Jesse in. But I digress.
She also introduced Jesse to heroin which Walt knew. And Jesse being on drugs nearly cost them their initial relationship with Gus Fring. We know that Walt had a soft spot for Jesse. Him letting Jane die was basically a sick and twisted way of freeing Jesse from her. And it sobers him up as well. Walt could have easily killed Jesse then and there by setting a fire or injecting him with drugs.
Kim and Jimmy assumed no such risk, and could not see it coming. When Mike tells her it is a one in a thousand shot, and that he has guys wathcing them, she has no reason not to believe her. The writing also makes it clear going to the feds will not protect them, but get them killed (as evinced in Nacho trying to tell his dad that very thing).
Mike is an idiot though. Who dies alone. Leaves his family no money. Is exposed as a cartel murderer. And gets his son killed. Just because Mike says something is a "one in a thousand shot" does not mean anything. Mike is incompetent. He fails practically every task but falls upwards for plot reasons. Fails to control the lab builders. Fails to contain Lalo multiple times. Fails to save Nacho. Fails to keep Tuco locked up and returns part of the money to Nacho. Fails to keep Lalo from Gus. Fails to stop Walt from killing Gus. Mike fails to stop Walt from killing him even. And leaves his granddaughter alone as her last memory to run from his murder spree he just did. Guy was a loser with no brain.

Jimmy represents Lalo in court. Jimmy frees a known murderer. Kim also helps. They both know that Lalo is a murderer. Both Jimmy and Kim know that Lalo knows where they live and has been to their apartment. Lalo has been inside of their apartment and has shown up uninvited before. Lalo trusts Jimmy enough to carry $7.1million in cash for him without a single bodyguard for the entire amount. Kim knows Lalo is alive. Kim knows that Lalo has shown up to her apartment before unannounced. Yet doesn't think that it happening again is a possibility? Makes zero sense.

Kim was told by Mike flat out. "Lalo might come to your apartment". This mean ANYONE who comes to their apartment. Delivery for food. Cleaning lady. Howard. Could run into Lalo. And be in danger. Kim is just a sick conniving piece of shit who was so caught up with messing with Howard she pays no mind to Lalo or anything else. She conceals information from Jimmy that could get him killed. She literally trusts Mike over Jimmy the supposed love of her life.

I rewatched the scene just now. He tells her:

"we are watching anyone he might contact, that includes you and your husband. Most likely he will never reach out. He's got bigger fish to fry. But in the one in a thousand chance he does.. [implied, my guys are protecting you.]"

Failing to keep Tuco locked up is because he chooses not to kill him. More of his morals getting in the way than it being stupid

She 100% should have told him. :By the way, Lalo is alive but Mike thinks we're fine" but she was worried that Saul would panic, and stop fucking with Hamlin, and she really wanted him to fuck with Hamlin so that's why she didn't say anything.

Probably true, but she only made that decision because she was convinced the chances are so miniscule. She did not see it as placing their lives or anyone else at risk. And if Mike did what he said...

Edit in reponse--no she is visibly frightened at first, but was persuaded by Mine she would be ok. Hindsight is always 20/20.

You 100% know that if she didn't think it would have stopped their Hamlin scam in its track, she would have immediately told Jimmy. No sane person would be like 'Oh, yeah, this cartel member who wants us dead after a botched assassination is alive, but the henchman just told me he'd probably go after so many other people instead of us, let's just not even mention it to my husband who is just as involved as I am and go on our regular lives without lifting a single finger to, I don't know, install a fucking chain on the door maybe'?

She wanted the Hamlin thrill, and she got the Hamlin kill.

I also think that ultimately, that's why she feels so much guilt for the death of Hamlin while Jimmy is able to move on so easily. He had no idea, and he could't have done anything different to avoid it. If he had known, Jimmy would 100% have changed his approach, he was terrified of Lalo, shit he probably would have packed his bags and left town or some shit. As much as he wanted to fuck with Hamlin there's no way he would have stuck around unprotected knowing that there was even a 0.1% of a live Lalo showing up at his door.

Kim feels directly responsible because, in a way, she is. She didn't press the trigger, but it's her actions that directly led to Saul not taking any protection as far as Lalo goes, and to keep going on his capers etc instead of focusing on protecting himself and his wife in the first place.

That doesn't erase the fact that she did all this shit out of spite though.

Howard would have never been in their apartment at the wrong time and moment if Kim didn't go with her bullshit "I wanna have fun" plan. For years, people believed he was a drug addict that killed himself because of her. Even if somehow managed to bounce back, his reputation would be ruined and everyone will think he is a cocaine sniffer that beats up prostitutes. Cheryl has every right to drain every cent she makes until the end of her life.

It's weird considering that Vince loves to punish people that make bad deeds, but AMC has been pretty open about wanting to make more spin-offs of the BB universe. Gould even mentioned that killing her was even on the table at one point. My theory is that the original plan was for her to be killed/go to jail and that's why Jimmy goes full Joker. I think the weird shitty life/civil suit purgatory was made so she can be used in future projects at AMC request, but it doesn't feel like she got away. Did it work? Meh, sort of.

For what it's worth, Vince has implied over the years that he had no fucking clue what he was going to ultimately do final fate-wise with Kim and that it was one of those things they explicitly left open in terms of putting off until they knew for a fact that they were ending the show.

It's one of the reasons why, midway through the show when they did the season finale episode storyline where Kim got into a car wreck, that Vince balked at one of the writers wanting to make the storyline the season ending cliffhanger. IE that Kim would get in a car crash and fans would be left wondering if she would live while the show was on break as far as milking it. Vince ordered them to film her leaving the hospital for the same episode, as Vince didn't want to dick tease fans about her being killed off and the backlash when she didn't die.

We all know the real reason is that he knew that if Bob didn't get enough Rhea feet scenes per season, he would just fucking tank the show.

Or die.

I disagree. One caveat, I happen to think Walt was right to let Jane die and people give her a pass because of the pussy pass. She was blackmailing a meth manufacturer and was an addict who was sucking Jesse in. But I digress.

I think the bigger reason Walt let Jane die is that he knew there was no way to truly make sure that Jane/Jesse didn't keep blackmailing Walt after their initial blackmail scheme worked. Even if they break up, not only is there a risk of Jesse doing it again now that Jane has sort of planted the seed in his head that Walt was ripe for such maneuvering but also the fact that Jane clearly hated/did not fear Walt and as such, was the type of person who could bleed Walt dry over the coming years.

Ironically, Walt's only mistake was not killing BOTH Jesse and Jane. Yes, killing Jesse would have hurt Walt considerably emotionally, but with Jesse dead his entire relationship with Gus would have played out differently. Walt would have worked with Gale and while there would be friction yes, Gale seemed like the type of guy who most likely would have humored Walt especially once Walt's cancer came back so that he could learn everything he could from Walt before he passed. Also, without Jesse around as a spanner in the works, I could see relations between Walt and Gus being less tense and once Walt dies (and assuming on good terms with Gus), Gus might offer some sort of financial support through one of his charities to help Skylar and the kids out.

Incidentally, Jane's own actress agrees with that assessment.
This tisms me out.

It's Skyler, like the bird kid in Shoe, not Skylar, like lolcow Skylar Ittner.

The second worst thing about the BCS finale besides the forced last-minute "redemption arc" was the segment where the cast "thanks the fans." I haven't seen this shit since Gotham ended, does every show do this now? It feels about as authentic as a the subject of a hostage video reading off a statement from their captors. Unironically feels less sincere than when a Nintendo game thanked you for playing.

"The actors want to thank ME for watching??"
