The most glaring omission in the BB universe is what Gus did to get kicked out of Chile, so expect a show on that.
He never "fucks himself over" with any of those. He always tries to come out ahead. Keeping Chuck out of HHM saves Chuck the humiliation and embarrassment of having to explains his mental illness to everyone. Jimmy knows that retirement will save Chuck's life. He only stops trying to get Chuck to retire when Chuck says "we should work together on Sandpiper". Which fools Jimmy into thinking Chuck respects him as a lawyer. When in reality Chuck is scheming to give the Sandpiper lawsuit to Howard and steal it from Jimmy. Once Jimmy realizes Chuck hates him he lets Chuck's mental illness destroy him and moves on and we never once see him think of Chuck until his magical courtroom epiphany during the finale.Seriously bro? Aside from I guess Chuck keeping him out of HHM he doesn't really get any pushback he didn't cause. He suddenly makes partner at Davis and Maine then for no reason blows it up "A big giant Law Firm won't let me make a commercial without asking? Fuck dis I quit."
He does stupid shit like the Squat Cobbler tape that absolutely would destroy his career if Pryce accidentally told anyone. The show literally starts with him trying to orchestrate a hit and run to blackmail a client.
The show is just him constantly fucking himself over.
If he took the deal he gets seven years and then is released into a world that hates him, he will likely reoffend and go in for longer, he would likely be disbarred anyway (idk for sure), Kim has no interest in him, he will likely get stabbed or shot in the head by some crazy vigilante man. He has nothing to look forward to after his freedomHe never "fucks himself over" with any of those. He always tries to come out ahead. Quitting Davis and Main was because he knew he would be fired eventually. But if he got fired for cause he would lose his bonus. So he makes a scene and gets released WITH his bonus. Jimmy was done with Davis and Main from the moment they eviscerated him for making a commercial. He just wanted to be done with his bonus money intact. The three partners he met with vote two to one to fire him. He was one legal or business mistake away from being fired for cause which every law practice would hear about. He acts like an idiot at Davis and Main to get released with a six figure bonus which happens.
The Squat Cobbler was tied into Mike, Nacho, and Pryce. He needed to do that to help Mike out of a jam. And in the end even in the BB timeline Mike is still helping him out. Cleaning up crime scenes and doing private investigator work. Jimmy was simply paying back a favor for Mike and earning his trust. He gains out of this.
Jimmy tries to hit-and-run to gain a new client. A super high profile client. Every example you gave is about Jimmy trying to further his legal career or make more money. Not "fuck himself over". He is always looking to gain things with his scams not sabotage himself. His entire scam effort on Howard with Kim was to gain the Sandpiper money as quickly as possible. Which works because they settle before Lalo takes Howard's head off of his body.
What does he gain out of 86 years in prison? Kim's respect? Peace of mind? It is totally out of character for him to deliberately blow up his entire life. He literally had seven years in an easy prison with golf and ice cream. He blows it all up and gets zero in return which literally never once happened on the show. 86 years in prison to honor his brother Chuck? Chuck who hated Jimmy? Kim? Kim who left Jimmy and ratted about Howard to the FBI behind his back and implicated Jimmy more than her? When it was all her idea? He literally could not handle the confines of David and Main but can handle a supermax prison?
This ending is entirely out of character for Jimmy. A real ending would have been Jimmy implicating Kim for both Howard and Lalo. Taking seven years in easy prison. And sending Kim to a supermax prison for 30 years. And telling the FBI to make a press release announcing the greatest mob or cartel lawyer in history has been caught just to raise his profile. He does maybe three years in jail with early release. Then gets a book deal and lives comfortably never thinking of Kim or Chuck again.
So why would he flee Chile during Pinochet's decline and fall?I would guess that Gus was a young leftist back in Chile. His boyfriend and him are able to hide underground for a while but end up fleeing to Mexico in the 80s.
That would be the late 80s. Pinochet’s regime was still going strong in the early 80s.So why would he flee Chile during Pinochet's decline and fall?
Gus fled chile in the 80's, Pinochet's regime didn't collapse until '90. The timeline doesn't line up for Gus to be a general or inner party memberhe fucked Ted
Gus was a general in the pinochet regime, thats why Eladio doesn't kill him, Eladio mentions something about his past or connections keeping him safe but not his partner. Its mentioned once or twice during breaking bad and Hector at some point dismissively says "generalissimo", Hector also knows he is the gay and taunts him about it a few times.
I'd assume Gus was a hatchet man for pinochet, and when Pinochet was driven out of power and exiled Gus had to flee as well, but probably still has a few friends in the military. It would be an interesting show in the vein of seeing South America in the 60s and 70s but it would need a brand new cast and probably not really work in English.
that was to explain how she can visit. shes still not a lawyerI don't like how it's just so uneventful. Yeah sure Saul going to jail as the only one of the entire operation to be alive makes sense in context, but he has been set up to be the guy who can weasle himself out of anything and now you are telling me he turns it all away just to get browny points from his ex?
Him going to jail as a legend amongst the criminals works in both cenarios, and after going free he could still jst change his name legaly and just move. Kim just going back to do lawyer things would not even be bad if it was not explained away with "guess my card is not expired EL OH EL".
The season should have ended on a higher note like how killing howard changed everyone forever, but now it ends on a wimper.
What about Hugo, the fall-taking weed-smoking record-having Native-American janitor with a heart of gold my BrBa rewatch has drawn attention to? Team em up? Hu^2?So. Huell Spinoff time? Huell is objectively the only true hero in the breaking bad universe, you know.
Gus apparently fled in 1986. Not early. He apparently arrived in Mexico in 1986.That would be the late 80s. Pinochet’s regime was still going strong in the early 80s.
Wasn't he cleared? They just found some weed. Not even Hank thought he did it. But then Hank didn't even consider the other most obvious suspect. What about Hugo, the fall-taking weed-smoking record-having Native-American janitor with a heart of gold my BrBa rewatch has drawn attention to? Cleared of stealing the lab equipment, denied his dream of contributing to the minds of tomorrow via mop and bucket on account of his record.Wasn't he cleared? They just found some weed. Not even Hank thought he did it. But then Hank didn't even consider the other most obvious suspect.
Would you say she's not a real lawyer?that was to explain how she can visit. shes still not a lawyer
Would you say she's not a real lawyer?
Why would the world hate him when people watch movies like Wolf of Wall Street glorifying thieves? Or watch mafia shows and podcasts from mafia members? And read books like Goodfellas and watch the movies? There are huge swaths of society that are into criminals from a voyeuristic perspective. He never murdered or raped anyone. He just did paperwork for Walter White, the most infamous criminal in modern America. His story would be fascinating. And without Walt and Jesse there, he would make up anything he wanted. He could make himself out to be a hero.If he took the deal he gets seven years and then is released into a world that hates him, he will likely reoffend and go in for longer, he would likely be disbarred anyway (idk for sure), Kim has no interest in him, he will likely get stabbed or shot in the head by some crazy vigilante man. He has nothing to look forward to after his freedom
No. He is freer.....being actually free. Not being in prison. You cannot excuse the mediocre writing unless you have Vince Gilligan worship on your mind. No one is free mentally in a supermax prison that has record suicides. You are just a simpleton who cannot bring himself to critique his heroes. Like Star Wars fans that like anything because it is Star Wars not because it is quality art. He literally throws away freedom for life in jail for Kim.When he blew up his deal he was able to satiate his ego by showing he couldve gotten out easy, he gets transferred to a prison that respects him for who he is, he gets Kim back who could maybe help negotiate small sentences down for him and he gets to alleviate the guilt he has for hurting Chuck, Howard and everyone else by bottling it all up internally. He is a freer man spending 86 years in a max security prison than spending seven years and then getting out
It is even worse than that. Because he DID already weasel himself out of trouble. He had the seven years in written form from the DEA. It was over. He won. Golf and ice cream. He then uncharacteristically tanks his entire legal defense to the point where he gets the 30 year initial sentence thrown away and gets over ten times as many years from what he was going to get. He goes from 30, to 7, to 86 years. In a fit of stupidity to please a woman who has not loved him and is long gone from his life. A woman that pushed him to be in the cartel life and harass Howard and will get no jail time for her crimes. A woman that concealed Lalo's surviving from him and endangered his life so she could laugh at Howard's being drugged by them.I don't like how it's just so uneventful. Yeah sure Saul going to jail as the only one of the entire operation to be alive makes sense in context, but he has been set up to be the guy who can weasle himself out of anything and now you are telling me he turns it all away just to get browny points from his ex?
