The US has a birth rate of 1.70, and if you look only at demographics that live in suburban areas, it’s much higher (conservatives have a higher birth rate than liberals; the urban bugman childfree drain is so great that even immigrants and welfare recipients’ children can’t make up for the loss). Crime should be number one priority when trying to fix shit around the city, the problem is that if anyone one speaks up about it in the community, usually the rabid Reddit lefties call you raycis for pointing it out. NJB and some other centrists know that if they do a video solely focused on crime, it will alienate a lot of his user base, thus splitting up an already small movement.

America does have a history of separating de blacks through not giving them loans and making them undesirable in the post war era. I’m not saying it’s happening now, it’s just a consequence of history. Trying to get muh reparations certainly will piss a lot of people off. It’s more of trying to find a pragmatic way to get rid of crime. Which in some respects would be depriving of some rights for everyone, but that is a small sacrifice that has to be made if people actually want things to improve. You have places in Europe where everything you want is within a 30 minute walk, but everything is cramped and expensive. The houses are sized similarly to a typical large American apartment in terms of floor space, but at high prices.

That really depends on where you go. Amsterdam in Weedland is not gonna have the same prices as, say, Poznan in Pooland. In former Eastern Bloc countries that have had mass housing projects (the only good thing communist regimes brought there) in form of commieblocks the housing prices will be lower outside of city centers. And since this is not Russia, many commieblocks get maintained somewhat decently. I live in one of those, and a few years ago it received a substantial outside renovation in form of added thermal insulation.

If you want to cut costs more, find a former Eastern Bloc border town near a Western European country where you'd work. Buy the house in said border town where it will be cheaper by Western standards.

Much of the (occupied) United States developed AFTER the car and mass transit became popular. Much of Europe was bombed to shit during WWII and they had to rebuild housing in a fairly quick manner and it had to be fairly centralized as if your country still had ration books (looking at you, UK) it will not have a vibrant car culture as most of the effort is spent on providing food.

Even in countries like East Asia their economic rise was much faster than the United States thereby pushing the demand on housing faster than a town house or single family home can provide. I do not enjoy it but if you need 10,000 more housing units for factories that are going up like weeds then perhaps housing blocks or density is solution.

The United States is geographically and historically blessed in that we could develop free from highly destructive wars that devastate our homeland and we had a reasonable pace of development. We are not some fucking European country.

I mentioned this in the another thread on the same topic but the overall goal of these fucks is pushing socialism or something akin to it. If you are aware of the issues these people support outside of housing or cars, its that they hate others do not need to deal with the shit the have to suffer from. They want make it so inconvenient for most people to live in the suburbs that they will just give up and move back to the cities.

What the actual fuck are those tiny rooms in the Munger Hall? That ain't no commieblock apartment, except maybe REALLY old pre Hruščovka communal housing apartment. As someone who actually LIVES in a 1970s commieblock, I can tell you this is not at all what they're like. They're more or less laid out like any regular house, except a bit smaller, tho there's also some 100+m^2 ones, and one floor.

And many commieblocks in my city have received renovation so that they have good thermal insulation and many people also changed the windows to newer ones that have pretty good soundproofing from the outside. Even retards exploding petards right in front of the building aren't as big of a problem. I think that the real solution would be a building that's future proof and modular to a degree, i.e. that they can be upgraded relatively easily down the line.

The structure of cities is not inherently political, but total car-dependency is ultimately unsustainable no matter what angle you slice it. A car should be one of many tools for mobility, not just the only one- people should be able to use a car (even rented) to move furniture and bulk purchases around, but they should also be able to take a fast and reliable train/interurban to the next town over if they need to do so- which is how most Americans got around before cars became dominant across the continent.

The real question is whether the solution is RETVRN or living in a bug hive, as pushed by the respective sides. For me, why not just have more Garden cities? The town planners of the time seemed to have had it down before everyone got bitten by the car bug.

Personally I don't like NJB as he's endless preachy about how the Netherlands are so much better and craps on anything North America, while never really offering any sort of solution to the issue. It comes off as sanctimoniously monotonous, same with the 'kill all lawns' folks.

I'm pretty sure that Strong Towns are also the originator of the really fucking stupid "stroad" term that's basically used to describe roads they don't like (the actual definition is based on some sort of distinction between "streets" and "roads" but it doesn't make any fucking sense and you know they just wanted a word to insult the roads people use).

I think 'stroad' is a nice and clear term that pinpoints some of the more car-dependent suburban commercial strips in North America- it's referring to an overgrown street (local, lots of entrances and exits onto it), but which also attempts to function as a 'road' (intended for moving between points efficiently)- but which ends up doing neither well.
