Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

After multiple delays it is finally coming, but seemingly no online play on xbox version:
https://www.cnet.com/tech/gaming/goldeneye-007-is-coming-to-nintendo-switch-with-online-multiplayer/
If they go the Perfect Dark route, it'll have online multi-player. I doubt that Rare would release Goldeneye 007 without online multi-player. Remember, Nintendo Switch Online and Xbox Live are two different ecosystems, particularly with emulation on legacy titles.

Still, this is a good thing all around. The rights limbo after 25 years has finally been resolved. I wonder what deal they had to do with MGM to get this into fruition. Probably MS's beaucoup bills.

So is the Xbox version just the N64 version at 4k? Or are they using the 360 remake graphics? Can you imagine how fucking stupid they would be not to?

I cannot wait for more details. I'm guessing it's emulation for the N64 version and another build for the Xbox.

Be cool if they actually put forth the effort to develop a new build that lets you switch between the two.

Now that people daydreamed for over a year, it is time to wake up to reality:

Continue down this path a little longer and there might be a 10 year deal coming to an end pretty soon:

What happened to Minecraft Legends? I had no interest in it but I assumed it was going to be at least "average" for people who liked that shit. Anyways, shame things are going so badly over there, but thats what happens when you try to cobble together studios full of randos to take care of IP they don't actually care about.

edit: He's also flat out fucking wrong, at least in regards to Nintendo. The Switch launched with a completely new and separate online ecosystem from Wii U and 3DS, it launched late and still won last generation and it did it off the backs of not one but two 11 out of 10 games (BotW and Animal Crossing) which made people go out and buy the console specifically in order to play one or the other of them. Also, its a total lie to say that this is the first changeover where online ecosystem continuity mattered, its just that last gen they fumbled so badly that people switched their entire ecosystem just to get away from Xbox. And it doesn't even matter because those big crossplatform games he talked about have crossplatform play and crossplatform accounts anyways... Whatever, thanks for all the fucking excuses, now why don't you go out there and try to make a fucking game, preferably a single-player-centric one. You did okay with Flight Sim, Forza and the initial launch of Halo: Infinite, things went okay when you actually put stuff out.

So who we all think is going to replace Spencer? Some unknown Microsoft exec? Todd Howard? Microsoft just cuts their losses and cuts Xbox loose?
I don't think Todd would ever break away from Bethesda. Love him or hate him he seems like one of the few people in the industry left who do want to actually make games. My guess is they'll overcompensate for all the chill dudebro shit with some other pencilneck suit who can lay the law down on the thousands of devs who've been grifting Microsoft this whole time.

That or they just call it quits and double down on PC support. The Steam Deck was a good example but I think if a company could 'consoleify' a PC box that lets you do everything a traditional PC does without any of the effort of putting it together yourself there's tons of money in it, and Microsoft is uniquely positioned to do so.

Phil Spencer is just subtly saying what I think most of us have known for a while, and that is Microsoft is far more focused on subscription based shit (Gamepass) than actual hardware sales (Xbox consoles).

If anything, Xbox overtaking Sony *or* Nintendo hurts their plans. They would rather have Gamepass available on Playstation than beat them out in console sales I would think.

Not that having shitty games like Redfall is going to help sell their subscription service or anything, but if they buy up enough studios they would be able to force Sonys hand.

I could see your point if Spencer wasn't so dismissive of making games themselves. What's going to be the selling point for Game Pass on other platforms if Sony starts to give a shit about PS+/Now and the other big players start their own subs like Ubi and EA are already doing if not Microsoft's output? For all the deserved joking about how Sony has no games with a whole two exclusives for the PS5, MS has literally fucking nothing for their own console.

I believe that's the point of buying up all these developers and publishers. They're more focused on having so many games that Sony/Nintendo will feel they need to have gamepass on their systems just in order to have the amount of content expected.

Microsoft isn't lying when they say they won't withhold Call of Duty from Playstation because that's not what they want. What they want is for Sony to only be able to have it through Gamepass. That's the whole point of the Activision deal at its core I think.

This is why Spencer is like "Eh, you're gonna have a game in the 60's now and then" I think. Because in Microsofts eyes, they want to have control of so many games that OF COURSE some aren't going to be 8, 9 or 10/10s.

Now so far I'd say they're not doing an effective job. Pushing out sub par shit should be reserved for after you get your shit on all systems and people feel the need to *have* it. But I still ultimately feel that is what their goal or mindset is at.

This is also why I think he made it a point to say they want a game out every quarter now. The thing is, they are really at a do or die moment here. They desperately need to start getting some solid games out on a regular basis for gamepass to have any staying power.

kek
First it was the Activision and blizzard deal being blocked
Now it's redfall being a disaster.
What will be next?

My guess? Starfield will be a typical Bethesda game, but diehards won't have the IP attachment they would have with Fallout and Elder Scrolls, and Gen Z won't give a fuck, so it will be treated as how a bugthesda game should probably be treated.

That and their summer showcase will be a bust that features more indie/troon shit than anything...again

Earlier, I said that Xbox's output is akin to filler content for Game Pass. This basically confirms that theory. The state of AAA gaming is in a bad spot with microtransactions, forced live services, arbitrary ESG guidelines and no identity. Xbox's output recently has been severely lacking with key exclusives. Halo Infinite is dead, Redfall was DOA, Forza is ... Forza and Fable is nowhere to be seen. It's almost like they don't know how to keep player retention.

It's so weird. Forza is like the only IP Xbox even has of relevance anymore. They completely shit the bed with Gears, Halo, Perfect Dark, Fable...

And I'm sorry, I don't think Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI are going to be the juggernauts that Skyrim was. It's been a fucking decade trends have passed, the new demographic is here and they're all fucking Fortnite kids.

I fucking hate Sony movie games, but at least they're catering to their braindead fans. Microsoft just keeps running around with their thumb up their ass.
