Ubisoft Sellout - Bankruptcy Speedrun Any% Thread

I remember when I was Rainbow Sixing a few years ago. They released a wall hack character and had the gall to create events when they couldn't even fix their ranked matchmaking and they seemingly had a new glitch every season.

Sycophantic Redditors defended that kind of decision making by saying it's what's ultimately best for the game because it will bring in new players, ignoring that overall "health" of the game is needed for anyone to love a game long term.

I hope they go bankrupt. Ubisoft hasn't released a single interesting game for nearly a decade now.
child of light and star trek bridge crew are pretty great, division after 1.6 was fun before they dropped the ball with 2. even the first watch dogs had it's moments

Ubisoft Connect on PC is cancerous bloatware, and it's unavoidable - buying a game on Steam or Epic still demands you use it; everything's also online-only and most games don't work on Steam Deck
to be fair back then their rewards blew steam achievements out of the water, and unless you're an MUH STEAM ONLY faggot you could get uplay keys way cheaper (and turns out you only need 1 launcher in that case). however rewards got dropped and connect is some shitty mobile abomination because apparently ubisoft is retarded enough to think I want to see that shit 24/7 on my phone. it's also the only launcher who wants admin rights EVERY FUCKING TIME just to play a game, so I'm not surprised their linux support is shit. otoh most of their current games are not worth playing anyway and the old stuff should have cracks.

I have fond memories of Assassin's Creed, Black Flag. Played the fuck out it, loved the sea battles. I'd been avoiding Ubisoft as I'd heard their DRM was awful. I only gave it a try because it came free with my graphics card.

Fucking hell, the DRM was absolute bullshit and I hated it. Just absolute aids that wanted to linger on your PC in the background constantly...the client was shit too. Just an awful experience. Never used them again, not even for free.
don't forget they're also the one that pushed online-drm hard around 12 years ago because MUH PIRACY, only to then complain that pc isn't a viable platform (no one is gonna take getting kicked out of their singeplayer asscreed session when the connection drops for a split second, not even mustards). one of their recent games also had denuvo AND vmprotect which tanked performance.

ubisoft was always fucking retarded.

I've only played the the first SC and Chaos Theory, basically the only ones from the old era that are available on Steam. I've always heard that everything that came after was less tactic stealth and more cinematic epic which is why I haven't touched them. Maybe I'm missing something but it feels like that whole franchise's popularity was entirely carried by the first three games.
I liked blacklist, it gave you 3 distinct way to do it. honestly the only complaint I usually heard about it was the retarded "soft reboot" by trying to make sam fisher younger (he's suddenly not ironside anymore but the rest is still canon, the fuck ubisoft?). all they had to do was have a proper "passing the torch" story and go from there, but nope, they had to be retarded about it. if you can ignore that and consider it a standalone game it's breddy gud, new guy certainly got a lot of unwarranted shit for it.

tencent are true cancer, they worm their way into every company and then use the IPs to push out generic addiction exploiting p2w mobile game tier trash content.
I take that over current ubisoft, unironically. in the end tencent wants to make money and them being chinks they don't give many fucks about wokeshit, while ubisoft has been drinking the koolaid HARD to the point it makes blizzard look sane and competent.

I mean look at their recent games, if they don't go full woke (although valhalla still had enough of it) they completely miss the point on every level. either the game sucks, it's a technical mess, or both - which is something you can get away with if you're EA with the sportsball money, but just dance and asscreed for normies can't carry that forever. and given how long games take to develop and them doubling down I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Ten cent won't worry about woke shit but will comb through your story to make sure nothing is offensive to the bloated face of Winnie the Pooh.

Too much of one evil traded for another.

Ubisoft Connect games always need one launcher, when you start them for the first time from either Steam or Epic, they get registered to your Ubi account and you don't need to launch them from Steam/Epic anymore

Couldn't even properly make decent Prince of Persia models, now we are talking about full story rewrites:

The upcoming Splinter Cell remake will include a rewritten story in order to appeal to a new generation of players.

As spotted by PSU, developer Ubisoft Toronto is currently looking to recruit a scriptwriter to update the original game’s story “for a modern-day audience”.

Ubisoft officially confirmed last December that it was working on a remake of Splinter Cell, the stealth action game which was first released in 2002 as an Xbox exclusive.

It said the game was being rebuilt with the Snowdrop engine—which also powers The Division and is being used to build Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Wars game—”to deliver new-generation visuals and gameplay, and the dynamic lighting and shadows the series is known for”.

Splinter Cell’s story centres around protagonist Sam Fisher, a black ops agent of the US National Security Agency’s secret arm, Third Echelon.

Fisher’s undercover work sees him tasked with helping maintain world order as cyber terrorism and international tensions threaten to explode into a new World War.

“Using the first Splinter Cell game as our foundation we are rewriting and updating the story for a modern-day audience,” reads the scriptwriter job ad.

“We want to keep the spirit and themes of the original game while exploring our characters and the world to make them more authentic and believable.

“As a Scriptwriter at Ubisoft Toronto, you will join the Narrative team and help create a cohesive and compelling narrative experience for a new audience of Splinter Cell fans.”

VGC exclusively revealed last October that Ubisoft had greenlit what will be its first mainline Splinter Cell game in a decade.

Development sources told us that the title had been put into production as a means of winning back fans frustrated by recent efforts to revive the franchise in the mobile and VR spaces.

Following VGC’s report, it was claimed that Ubisoft could take inspiration from IO Interactive‘s Hitman franchise for its next Splinter Cell game.

“Although we’re still in the very earliest stages of development, what we’re trying to do is make sure the spirit of the early games remains intact, in all of the ways that gave early Splinter Cell its identity,” producer Matt West said when the game was announced.

“So, as we’re building it from the ground up, we’re going to update it visually, as well as some of the design elements to match player comfort and expectations, and we are going to keep it linear like the original games, not make it open world.”

He added: “One of the things that, from my point of view is really exciting about this project, is that the last couple of games all of us have worked on have been really big worlds. What that means is that the economy of decisions is very spread out, whereas what I love about a Splinter Cell map is every square inch represents intentionality.
“Every square inch is part of a choice, or directly offers a choice, or has a direct ramification. That density of gameplay is at the forefront in Splinter Cell, and that’s going to be really, really important for us. The gameplay experience we are targeting is directly tied to what we want players to feel, to capture the essence back when we were all playing the original games.”

Couldn't even properly make decent Prince of Persia models, now we are talking about full story rewrites:
That was due to pajeets, it is understandable. They can replace the story in Splinter Cell with drone noises and I wouldn't know the difference, I like the games but whenever they talk story my brain goes into low power mode until I spawn on the next map.

And they just keep coming:
Ubisoft has just announced a new co-op shooter, Project U.

Almost nothing is known about the upcoming game, which was announced today, but Ubisoft has already opened registration for its upcoming playtests.

“Codename ‘Project U’ explores a new concept of session-based co-op shooter, where many players unite to prevail against an overwhelming threat!” says the game’s official announcement.

The game is currently in early development, with the first PC-only closed playtest taking place in western Europe.

Although the game will be entirely in English, the company is encouraging players from across Europe to get involved and will be available in France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, and Italy.

“We'd love to play with you and gather your valuable feedback in order to improve the game experience and steer production in the right direction!” said Ubisoft.

If you’re interested in taking part in Project U playtesting, you can register here.

This isn’t the first time recently that Ubisoft has announced a new project with a playtest. The upcoming Project Q, a team battle arena game that isn’t a battle royale, was announced in much the same way.

Other than the game’s registration page, there’s very little to go on when it comes to Project U. However, it does feature some artwork that depicts an armored team of players making a standoff against a colossal horde of angular, machine-like enemies.

Whether this means we should expect a horde-mode style of gameplay remains to be seen. Either way, it looks like an interesting addition to Ubisoft’s line-up, and we’ll be popping our names down ASAP.

Don't have an Overwatch/Apex Legends on current year? Just keep throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.

IIRC that was AssCreed: Origins. Pirates got like 10 extra FPS since like half the game's core processing ran in VM. From my understanding the game ran a VM check on shit every other frame or something ridiculous like that.

Shit, I hope they sell the paraworld license to someone who gives a shit before they get bought out by EA or something.

Another GAAS flop, when will they learn. Waste more money and adds to value to Ubisoft+ their own streaming service when it closes down after 6 months, why they don't use that money to make THQ style mid budget single player games is beyond me.

And they just keep coming:
oh god, they gonna do another firefall...

also the registration is hilarious, the first question is "are you a pc gamer". what if I'm not?

seriously tho, there's potential since we don't know anything yet, but given it's ubisoft it's fairly certain they gonna fuck it up. the same people that couldn't design a game in the past are still there, except now in charge of another double-digit numbered try.

can't monetize a one time singleplayer purchase like GAAS. that being said you could do both at the same time (just look at fucking genshin impact) if you're smart, problem being ubisoft isn't.

Hey now please don't drag Firefall into this, that's still a sore spot for me. Fuck Mark Kern and fuck EM8ER, just everything about it but mostly its Star Citizen like development process. Just put the shitty game out so I can get some closure.

I can't remember the last Ubisoft game I played. I somehow missed the whole 15 years of Assassin's Creed games. Are they worth buying on sale? I mostly like game stories, and don't care too much for the combat.
