I would have loved a video during the golden age covering all of the terrible mascot platformers that came in the wake of Sanic like Gex, Aero the Acrobat, Zero: the Kamikaze Squirrel, and fuckloads of others.
It would probably be a multi-part series, since there were a FUCK-ton of mascot platformers trying to compete with mario/sonic, and not just on the NES/SNES/Genesis, you have shit from other consoles he's previously covered like PCE/TG16, 3DO, Jaguar, etc...

But yea that would require ALOT of effort that I don't think he's willing to put in unless he's really passionate about it. Either that or he just speedruns through them in one video, which would be kinda lame.

I was thinking that it could be done like the Wish List videos he did. Two parts 20 minutes each. It could be done and he'd still be leaving out a lot of titles.

30 seconds in and he's like "I guess everyone on the internet didn't like. So I'm left wondering why it's getting a sequel." Because it's the highest grossing film of all time (unadjusted for inflation). That's why. It's very simple. This video is going to be a shit show. I can tell.

Edit: getting further through his video it really sucks. James assumes this smug and contrarian opinion defending Avatar. Coming to the conclusion that people thought it was overhyped in comparison to Titanic and that people hated it because it ripped off and/or was inspired by several other movies thus comparing it to Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Hey James, maybe people hate Avatar just because it sucks?

I'm sorry but if you genuinely liked Avatar and think it's a great film then you have absolute shit taste in movies. The only pass you will get (from me anyway) is if it was part of your childhood or your got your first blowjob while watching it or something like that.
I remember when it came out, everyone was blown away by its visuals, and it was right at a time when Obama was funding a bunch of climate change initiatives, to the message was relevant to a lot of people's lives.

It's over a decade later now, and 90% of all big budget movies look like that now, and while the panic over the environment is still there thanks to the left beating that drum ad nauseum, the insistence on self-awareness in modern culture has made the story's flaws more apparent. To an average viewer watching today, it probably won't be anything special. Not that it matters when executives look at how much money it made, hence why the sequels are still (somehow) churning along.

The only thing I can add is that mega budget movies did have an over use of CGI before Avatar. Such as the Matrix sequels and Speed Racer.

Tried watching Avatar for the first time since seeing it at release the other day and...

It's still ass.

Almost feels like a James Cameron fan film.

Avatar is the cinematic equivalent of stale bread with a lot of glitter.
I am not disagreeing here, I too think Avatar was a boring, forgettable mess with spectacular visuals and all. But guys, just don't try and say all this on the /tv/ boards.

"Member Saturday morning cartoons?" That sums up the entire video. It really is just him bringing up cartoons and other kid shows from the 80's and 90's, giving a brief synopsis and playing dumb "Gee, I wonder why Saturday morning cartoons just went away? I guess it's because of streaming and DVR?" That's it.

Also, faggot is incredibly wrong about why Muppet Babies hasn't been available on streaming or anywhere else. It's because of the movie and TV clips the show used. He goes on to say "Well, Disney owns the rights to Star Wars now so I just don't buy it as an excuse." Guess what James? Disney would still have to pay George Lucas for those Star Wars clips. Not to mention the actors as well or John Williams for his score. Then you have the innumerous clips from other properties liberally used and it would be a nightmare to license and fucking expensive. Fuck, I remember an episode of Muppet Babies used clips from Aliens (1986) and in case you're curious, it was the sequence with the hypersleep pods. So yeah, Muppet Babies would never get re-released because of the cost of licensing and the alternative would be to edit the episodes but so many of the episodes revolve around the clips that it would be very incoherent. Disney could probably release some of the episodes that don't revolve around the clips with minor edits.

I remember seeing it in theaters. It was around the time every movie was using the stupid 3d gimmick so it was in 3d. All I remember about it is how much it hurt my brain and my eyes watching it.

I always figured it was because weekday after-school time slots that appeared in the '90s kinda took their thunder. The kids get more cartoons and the advertisers get to push sugary cereals and hunks of molded plastic to kids five days a week instead of just one.

I always thought it was because there were increasing numbers of FTC restrictions since the 80s, stations getting incentives (tax breaks) to show educational programming on Saturday mornings, and the fact that by the 00s, pretty much everyone had cable so kids would just watch Cartoon Network all day instead.

Avatar at best is a B movie with a high grade Hollywood budget. Everyone who shits on it does so because it's overhyped and overpraised, for one, and that in prior generations, it would had gotten the praise it deserved- for being extremely cult.

And even then, I can't put Avatar in B Movie land, because B Movies have an endearing sincere charm of making the best out of a low budget or trouble production or what not. Avatar is what Jurrasic Park would be if it Spielberg had gotten more than his usual budget and got the movie to overstay its welcome than what it is. It doesn't even have the charm of an annual fireworks show. It's simply, as what movie snobs would call "masturbation". It's more like the visuals focused descendant of Cobra, the self masturbatory excess of 1980s action films than a B Movie.

So if you like Avatar, it's your cup of tea, great. But I wouldn't exactly call it an enticing, gripping movie. I find it funny that James likes Avatar too. And for some slight ribbing, Avatar I can see being a movie James would try to deliberately make.

I think that's why he likes it so much. He thinks "Hey, I could do that!"

It has been 24 hours and no one has posted so...

I only post this just as a reminder that there is no Monster Madness this year which I would say is the beginning of the end if you pardon me being a little melodramatic. Since 2007 James has always made a Monster Madness. For a few years he scaled it back, did episodes that were easier to edit with him and Mike rambling about the movies, or did only 15-16 episodes as opposed to 31. But I guess with all the drama from last year and something something no time he's unceremoniously ended it. It's sad because aside from the plagiarism last year's was pretty good. There was a good selection movies and it was nice to see clips as opposed to stills being used. It did lack the enthusiasm from James.

Compare and contrast:

To this:

It's "Let me read a synopsis off of IMDB and give a very basic bitch take" Versus "Holy fuck I love this movie and let me tell you why!"

I also found this bit amusing:

What happened to all of the backups of everything he's ever done? Backups on not one but TWO servers and he couldn't find this one video and had to link to a clip channel he doesn't own? Or what about downloading the video off of that channel and re-uploading onto yours or your backup channel?

The death of Saturday Morning Cartoons is a long story, but the TLDR version is that there was this raging bitch named Peggy Charren who today we would call a Mega-Karen. She had an obsessive hatred of Saturday Morning Cartoons and made a living out of it by starting her own non-profit activist group.

Over the decades they got more and more restrictive laws passed that made it harder and harder on the animation producers to get anything made. And these Karen-approved cartoons were fucking awful and kids didn't even want to watch them.

The Simpsons did an episode parodying this with Marge in the Peggy Charren role.
