Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I know we have a Rick & Morty thread, but I really don’t get why there needed to be an incest-subplot in the recent episode they had. Here I kept thinking that this was supposed to be an ”edgy” version of Back To The Future, but now I don’t know what it is anymore.

All I’m saying is that I made the right choice to check out in 2015, the same way I did with Bojack Horseman back in 2016.

It seems as if the mid-2010’s was the end of mature cartoons trying to entertaining, and more of just shoving fake morality complexes and selfish behavior through animation.

Wait, wtf.
Incest-subplot? Isn't anything related to a Unity parody porn game about Rick & Morty?
Man, i really wish to some detective-level of investigation about the reason of it. Holy shit.

The general theory in the thread is that it's one or more of the writers inserting their fetish. Incest has apparently happened multiple times in the show since everyone normal checked out. (Turns out that they've silently got up to season 6!)
Something similar happened with a reptile stripper in another episode. Tons of art of her appeared and it was near the release of a smash hit game with a similar looking character in it, people got confused.
I'm interested in the unity porn though. That sounds like the sort of meta "play off the fans" idea that might actually happen.

Jesus Mary and Joseph what is it with western adult animations obsession with incest these last few years? As collio said they made incest jokes before but usually they were "repressed representations in Mortys subconscious mind. " It wasn't just that show either, family guy had the whole infamous episode fresh heir, about Peter trying to marry Chris just so he could get his hands on a fortune Carter left him. Not to mention the disgusting implication Chris gave Carter a hand job on top of Peter also heavily implying he planned on fully... "consummating" his marriage to Chris not just have it he a sham for money.

I think the worst of the worst however, goes to surprise surprise.... Big mouth. For like two seasons on that show a plot point was the pervy little shit Andrew having incestuous feelings for his own cousin and not ONCE is it EVER written to be a bad thing. No no no by the time it's resolved were supposed to feel sorry for the skevy little perv and bad for him because he got caught sending dick pics to his cousin and punished for it hell we're supposed to feel sorry for him being a little deviant despite being only 14 years old.

All I can say is I really hope the people writing these incest plotlines aren't projecting anything in doing so.. But then again considering the kind of degenerates most modern western animation writers tend to be is it any wonder it's gotten this bad?

Addendum: Is anyone else getting ads for this on youtube?

I have no idea what take my muffin is or who made it or how a 23 minute cartoon got independently released and made for youtube but...my god is it awful. It's like if rick and morty and regular show gang raped inside job and it somehow spawned. apparently it has something to do nfts...according to the video its like an nft and a cartoon blended together.

This possibly could be him stretching the truth, since entertainers and celebrities have a tendency to lie, but this seems rather sudden after dropping his cartoon last week.

Plus, he was in NYC celebrating the release of it with this photo:

Has anyone watched Entergalactic?
The script is a rather basic romcom, the originality comes from it being animated, and so very 2022 culturally. The musical aspect is not the best,
The music is the kind of bland moody hiphop that gets played at coffeeshops. Entirely forgettable.
It's very present but comes of as self-indulgent, with long sequences with music but no dialogues that look like screen-savers without deepening our empathy with the characters.
A lot of the characters just look like the actors playing them. Laura Harrier's characters is an exception, she has the e-thot look with over-inflated lips, a tiny nose, blue eyes and straightened hairs, because she is the "ex" and they didn't see any way to have her contrasted against the soulfull, arty, authentic main girl "Meadow" than to turn her into a caricature.
But appart from that they are all pretty much just famous people turned animated.
The actors are all A or B-listers rather than voice actors. Mackauley Culkin has cameo as a white-trash called Downtown who hangs at the skate park and ran into a psycho girl once, to gives you an idea of the kind of joke in that movie.

It will probably age like milk, there's something about it that doesn't work. It's very lush and beautiful visually but it comes off as a bit empty and many directing decisions are gratuitous. It seems to have good intentions but not the guts to actually walk the walk. Those people are upwardly-mobile, don't have real problems and live in beautiful places. The ethical conflict for the MC just resolves itself: at the end he can do his "authentic" art and make banks, other people may have to compromise but not him. So the way the movie pays lip service to social struggles, oppose authentic versus non-authentic (restaurants, people, ideals, art), and wax poetic about what a rich diverse and colorful place NYC is doesn't really work. This movie doesn't have much to say about making art or finding love. The main couple just fall into each other, the obstacles between them are only mis-communication issues caused by exteriors factors, and they don't really have to learn anything because they are both pretty much perfects individuals from the get-go.

It's not a bad way to kill time if you liked the look of the Spiderman movie. But it would be cooler if animated movies for adults could be made without it needing it to be a vanity project for famous rich people.

There's one instance I can think of where a vanity project for a music group, specifically Major Lazer, in the form of a single series show ended up being pretty good. Nice colorful animations and fun characters. It's all about getting high though which gets kinda old but regardless it's not the kind of cringe you see these days.

Goddammit….

It lived. (Yes, the is an official image for the show.)
I'm reminded of a poster for the Emperors New Groove which had the MC and the line "Its all about ME!" on it as well. Of course in that film Cuzcos arrogance and self-centered attitude were flaws he had to overcome to be a better person. The poster was setting the tone that the film was a light-hearted comedy about an arrogant buffoon who needed to change his ways. With this poster I don't get the vibe that this will be a light-hearted show where Velma discovers the joys of teamwork and must put her know-it-all personality aside in order to solve the case alongside her friends. This will be an extended coping session for an over the hill actress and a group of terminally online adult children to tell themselves how smart and awesome they are and living through the Velma character.

Any thoughts on the Velma being gay in the new Scooby Doo special? All I did was groan, and of course the Twitter crowd ate it all up.
Animation was weird. It was trying to do original show feel but also went super fluid at times. It’s like when people put up 60 fps 4K versions of Tom and Jerry cartoons.
