The purpose of libel tourism and forum shopping is purely a war of attrition against the defendant, meant to drain a defendant financially by forcing him to travel abroad to defend himself. That's the whole purpose of international law, it's to deny people the right to a fair trial by forcing them into a jurisdiction where they can't rely on whatever resources they have access to locally to adequately defend themselves.

At best, this just looks like shitty form letter for a consultation, rather than a retention agreement for a law firm. A friend of mine is a personal injury lawyer and used to do consults for free when he was starting out. There's no indication that this firm is actually representing Keffals.

First thing I thought of is that there's no recitation of consideration paid or discussion of a fee structure. It's possible, if it's real, that that part could be cut out from what Keffals uploaded. (Though why the fuck would he cut out that part, which is what would actually address his current critics' concerns about stealing the money?). And it's possible Canadian legal rules are different than American ones. But what I looked for first is what an attorney would certainly include in a retainer letter—attorneys really care about clarifying quickly that the client has paid valid consideration for the retainer, and they want to establish a clear fee structure for how they'll scalp the client out of more money.

It's weird that only the name of the law firm is given, normally it should be followed by an address. And the phrase "Professional providing instructions" is weird. They say they will act in accordance with instructions provided by Keffals, so he is the "professional" providing instructions?
