A few humble thoughts...nothing really new/improved/earthshaking.
On the Ukrainian side, this entire counteroffensive was planned some time in advance. My guess - NATO and Ukrainian planners had been meeting all along, even before the war. They designed a general strategy to eventually free the areas taken by the Russians. War's being fought from Kyiv and a NATO base in Poland.
Note the Ukrainians have achieved success using primarily Russian-made equipment. They employ the stuff better than the country that designed and built it. Not one NATO-built tank has been used. And now we see Russian tanks would not do well at all against NATO tanks, just like all the other times before.
Also believe, with admittedly no empirical data, that the Ukrainian Army outnumbers the Russians in the operational theater. They mobilized hard and fast. Russians cannot send their entire army, for obvious reasons. The "300,000" supposedly on the way will be of little value. Shit's happening right now, and sending in conscripts basically off the street just throws these men away. Not only that, but the Russian services and supply have utterly and totally failed. And the Russian use of airpower has been retarded. No flexibility whatsoever shown, when airpower is inherently very flexible.
Some say the Russians may use tactical nukes. Not unless they want the Ukrainians to take off the gloves inside Russia. Far as I know, and I admittedly don't know everything, all the "attacks" and "fires" inside Russia have been intended at and for military targets. Hit a Uke city with a tactical nuke, you kill kids/women/the elderly. Can think of lots of ways for the Ukes to retaliate inside Russia - some "fun" on the Moscow Metro, perhaps. Doesn't take too many actions of that type to terrorize people.
This war didn't have to happen. This war needs to end. All on Putin. Always has been. Just a horrible waste and a shame.
