That is what the solicitor (who was a local one) told me.

Seeing as I have nothing to hide they are welcome to look through my stuff but I have some invaluable family photos I would be sad to lose.

Contempt of court is only if you are violating a court order or appointment and unfairly influencing a court case, if you are not even charged with a crime then surely the courts are not involved yet?

Section 42 under English law is related to the mental health act and the offenses against the person, but my limited brief reading of both sections doesn’t give me any indication about it granting an officer the right to demand your passwords in this circumstance, but again I reiterate, talk to another solicitor.

I am a random internet nobody with limited experience of the law so do not use my words as anything other than a suggestion.

This ought to be a clue that I am posting in my own name. I have reset my password because all users were required to do this following the site’s vacation and not because I am hiding anything.

The police showed me a cartoon/meme thing posted by @Kit Kat and asked to explain it. I couldn’t. They asked me to describe what was happening in the picture, like I was in a primary school English class or like in a modern language GCSE exam.

It is unconscionable that your property was raided and seized, without a warrant, on the grounds that, "Someone said that I said something but there was utterly no proof that I was the one who even said it." While I do not share many of your views, politics, or religious beliefs, I have nothing but respect for your right to have them. they shouldn't delete anything (especially family photos) but you will be waiting months and months to get your stuff back. they usually mirror your devices and trawl through them that way rather than directly accessing your device.

i am really not too sure on what their search protocol is. the last time it happened to me a lot of stuff was completely untouched so im not sure why they insisted on keeping it for so long. if you can, find out the email address of whoever is dealing with this, you can pester them for updates and they will usually expedite closing proceedings and giving your stuff back.
