Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Where do you get manga? Amazon?
If you want it shipped without it being thrown in a crappy mailer like Amazon usually does, Right Stuf is a good option. Check ebay for used bundles, Half Price Books or borrow titles from your local library if you want to try a series before you buy it.
It's more funny for me how twitter seems to only like it solely for the yuri content, lmao.
Twitter was seething over Lycoris Recoil being yuri bait, so they are desperate for their fetish/validation/whatever the hell their problem is.

Back in my day, we only wanted to watch anime where characters died.
My biggest issue with series like One Punch Man or My Hero Academia is they have a character roster of like 100 people doing a dangerous activity like superheroing and noone dies. I've read 11 of the Goblin Slayer light novels while the site has been down among other things and I'm surprised
none of the main squad have died so far
. Kakyoin, Iggy, and Avdol dropping dead by comparison gave Part 3 some real stakes for the climactic showdown.

One Punch Man at least has the excuse of being a comedic parody that plays up drama for the primary purpose of accentuating the comically easy resolution once Saitama shows up though the latest arc did briefly play with the idea of Saitama not showing up in time and everyone fucking dying.

I dunno how far ahead the LNs are but at least in the mango they haven't really done all that many party quests to be fair. But I'm not sure how much it matters because what it gets really right is setting up the world to be so hardcore that you can actually believe it might happen whenever the situation gets fucked. I remember being pretty worried at that part where High Elf almost gets some pickle the first time I saw it in the anime.
Although that effect wears off a little once you realise it's a character growing nipples that's the death flag.
Then again, suddenly the onsen scenes get kinda tense.

OPM does kill plenty of people, including everybody on earth sometimes, and it's at least fun to guess who's going to survive the arc every time a wave of potential redshirts get introduced. It's never the established dudes so it's more of a life lottery than a death lottery though.

Are you talking about Kidou Senshi Gundam: Suisei no Majo? I wanted to see it but apparently it's a sequel.
The prequel is basically just a bonus episode. It's pretty good and very Gundam-esque. The actual show is giving me bad vibes. Even if I like a yuri Gundam to make up for the endless fujobait in IBO, it's probably the least Gundam-feeling first episode of any Gundam ever. I just hope the dueling shit is just a first arc that gets a good incorporation into the story, or ends up like G Gundam where the show actually does have all the usual themes and motifs of Gundam, just in a different format. I probably wouldn't have watched it if it wasn't Gundam, since "Utena but with giant robots" was done like a decade ago, it was called Star Driver and I remember it being boring.

Watched Jujutsu Kaisen 0, I still don't get if it's canon or not considering the main character actually survives the film, the villain seems to have different motivation and he supposedly dies in the end

It reminded me I liked the original show action scenes when it's pure action or rule lawyering, but the moment if becomes power level focused it's just boring particle effects bullshit.

I just watched the movie a few days ago myself and like it a lot more than the main series tbh, it is canon but at the end of the movie, the MC goes off to train with that black guy and doesn't appear again until later on in the manga. As for Geto, yes, he actually had a personality in this movie and then he's alive again in the show and kinda just takes a backseat to the other series villains, I don't wanna spoil it but there is a reason he's alive again and I'm pretty sure it's revealed in the next arc after where the anime ends.

I kinda wish the main cast from the movie didn't just become supporting background characters in the main series because I like them a hell of a lot more than Itadori, Fushigiro and Kugisaki. The writing in general was just a lot better in 0 so I'm not really sure what happened.

Watched the first episode of Eminence in Shadow, it was different from the manga but still pretty fun, loved how they insert Moonlit Sonata, almost wish there was more of Stylish Ruffian Slayer. Still, hoping they don't skip how he got isekai'd in the first place.

Didn't expect Human Bug University to be that dark, yet informative. Guess its a "dumb ways to die" sort of thing.

It's the Naruto issue where the main trio are as vanilla as they come while all the other teams are far more interesting in personality and powers.
I will say the main protagonist in 0 is a bit cliché god mode sue who's power is explained by superpower genetics.

Oh yeah, while the Farms was still sputtering to come back from the dead, Tenchi Muyou! turned 30 two weekends ago.
I recently watched the first two OVAs for the first time not too long ago, and they really do hold up all these years later. I've never cared too much about harem series (don't hate them, but don't seek them out either), but Tenchi does it right, and I was laughing throughout. Heard mixed things about the later OVAs and other series, so I dunno if I'll get around to them or not.

meh
Gojo is just the most boring fucking character. His fights were complete wastes of time. Flashy OP characters are the worst kind. Throwing around fart clouds of light is only amusing if you're babby's first korean basket weaving cartoon. He'd be infinitely more interesting and cool if he just one-shot his enemies by throwing pebbles right through them. Instead, you have to watch him dick around for an episode or two to finally end a fight he could've finished in one second.

Pretty much, even Naturo knew Kakashi will be more interesting if he had difficulties. And his "fuck the rules" completely removes any interesting politicking from the setting.

It also reminds me a meme about the show of 95% of the meme being text explaining shit, and then a tiny panel of the fight itself.

if your story isn't about politics, don't include politics, especially if you can't write politics

I mean, I actually really like the main cast in Naruto and find them to be entertaining except for Sakura but the main cast of Jujutsu Kaisen are like cardboard cutouts of the main cast from other anime except for Kugisaki who I actually really like but since her team mates are so uninteresting, she's not able to bounce her personality off of them very well and it makes her look lame too. It's really weird because we know the mangaka can write fun characters, I get that wacky characters are best in moderation (I think Todou is the best character but I cannot imagine him not getting annoying if he were in every chapter) but Maki, Panda and Inumaki were in that sweet-spot of being interesting characters but not so balls to the walls that you'd get tired of them fast.

Gojo is like what a 12 year old would come up with if trying to rip off Kakashi for a shitty OC fanfic they were writing and the mangaka must have realized this after a while because he literally gets removed from the story in the arc that comes after where the anime ended. Also, his whole "overloading the brain with information" power he has is such a shitty execution of that concept. It's literally just "I drop my domain, now u paralyzed lmao", I remember watching a podcast where some dudes were reading Chainsaw Man and watching Jujutsu Kaisen at the same time and mentioned how the Halloween shit in CSM is just Gojo's domain power but actually executed in an interesting way.

Oh, I know. I'm reading the manga right now.
It'd be interesting if he was a literal brain-dead dude because of his powers, but he's not. OP powers with a downside only work if there is an actual downside. Take super strength for instance. And I'm not talking peak human or whatever, I mean punching so hard you create shockwaves. Now take away the ability to withstand it, ever. Give them super healing. You now have an OP character whose existence is effectively perpetual agony. Weird how I encountered that concept in fanfic of all things but then again mainstream writing is shit in regards to creativity and in general these days.

A friend and I started Tenchi Muyo sometime after watching Love Hina because we wanted that bad taste out of our mouths, and we were just that pleasantly surprised by the whole thing. I call it the "Tenchi Blackhole" for a reason, it's just such a maze, but it's rare to find something in there that was bad (closest we found was "Photon", though that might've been the dub's fault, "Dual Parallel! Trouble Adventures" for being too short, and "Tenchi in Tokyo" for being too obtuse about what it was going for until the end).

We were curious about why it is the third OVA is considered bad, and we thought it was because Petrea Burchard was replaced by Mona Marshall among a few others, but honestly, that wasn't it at all despite the bad GXP reception. No, it was because the ending was really fucking bizarre and rather out of left field, and as far as I know, even watching Ryo-Ohki back-to-back doesn't help it make sense. Legit, there's a reason the franchise (mainly the Ryo-Ohki universe) went dormant after the special "modified" OVA came out. I still don't think it was a terrible entry, though, but it wasn't a favorite.
