What's your winning scenario here? If the west floods Ukraine with more mercenaries and they keep trying to take more territory, then they'll promptly turn into a radioactive pile of ashes. NATO has already proclaimed they will not respond unless attacked directly, so as long as the nuclear strike is restricted to Ukrainian territory, there will be no retaliation, and no refunds. Soviet officers already made the decision to not fire nukes at least twice during the Cold War. We're only talking here because most people who work with nukes know how fucking stupid it is to launch them.
And the US already said they would respond to a nuclear weapon with a conventional strike. Anyone carrying out an order to fire a nuke knows that Russian assets, if not Russian soil, will suffer a reprisal attack which then could spiral into a nuclear attack on US/NATO.
It's not pathetic. It's real life. Your theory hinges on the Russian military leadership, who understand the applicability of their own nuclear doctrine, to obey a man who is willing to destroy Russia over his ego.
