A dud nuke is an absolutely perfect decoy right up until it visibly fails. The only way they get you any breathing room is if the launch platform is the failure point early in flight. Bit of a misconception, and I fear I may have contributed to that perception. Those draftees haven't actually been sent to the front. They are siting on the border in training camps knocking of the rust and retraining. They will likely be committed later this month or more likely in December. There are also several volunteer brigades which will likely be committed at the same time.

Most of the forces on the frontline are the same general forces that were there after the Kiev pullback. The only new formation is the Russian Third Corp in the South where it is there to support the Kherson and Zaporizhia front. The northern front along the Luhansk region has not received a significant increase in the number of forces available to them. They are receiving some replacement reinforcements but thats about it. They are being told to hold or slow-roll Ukrainian advances until the Draftees are ready.

Now where the regular conscript forces come into play is unknown to me. But people aren't talking much about them an an active force. Maybe we'll see them come in with the mobilized draftees/reservists.

You sure? I'm hearing these draftees are already starting to pop up as POWs caught by the Ukrainians.

That being said, yeah, they SHOULD be training them or using them as cadre to train younger soldiers. Then again, it's Russia, and we've already determined their logistics is hot garbage. Maybe their personnel management is too.

It's really just mind boggling how retarded we've become about war and it's nastier aspects. I think it's some weird combination of propaganda, dumbass ideas gathered from Hollywood, and decades of soft men who have no real experience with the true horrors of war.
It's not a picnic, it's not a call of duty mission, there are no respawn points or plot armor or any Deus ex machina. And nuclear war? Whew boy. You and Bone outlined some of the finer points but the reality is we still have no fucking idea exactly the depth of horror that would await. Nukes have only been used in war twice and those comparatively low yield (compared to today's bombs which are measured in units of 'hiroshimas') bombs fucked Japan up even in an era before everything was dependent on computers and when people were generally more healthy anyway.

Simply put one of the fear mongering antiwar drumbeats that does actually have roots in truth is an all out nuke war would likely spell the end of modern civilization on earth.
