It was crucial for logistics as it links Russian territory with Crimea and provided Russians with safe, uninterrupted fuel and ammunition shipments. And it was destroyed while Ukies are pushing the Kherson oblast. Now Rusians have to supply their troops either via ferry [limited capacity vs rail] or reroute logistics via Mariupol, where their supply train will be more vulnerable to attacks.
If you can strike at key logistical points why would you refuse to do so?
