Overwatch

I still cannot wrap my head around some changes
Remember all that shit the devs said about how they wanted a better and more positive game enviroment? and thats why they removed general chat and added the goodboi meter around 2020?
So why in God's green earth would you show damage, deaths and assists to other players? Pretty sure thats gonna cause far more issues than people shit talking in chat, because now your teammates will be able to pin the blame on a a single person instead of ambiguously toss it around.

Blizzard probably didn't want to get flack that DICE got when they didn't even include a proper scoreboard in Battlefield 2042, and the said proper scoreboard had to be re-added to the game, months after release.

I'm totally late to the party but only just found out lootboxes are gone and the game pretty much adopted the same model as F2P games like Paladins. Seems rather worrying. One of the things I liked about Overwatch compared to its competitors was that you'd amass a huge amount of skins if you played somewhat regularly and got your boxes without ever having to for them. They were also a nice reward compared to just getting some extra battle pass xp or whatever.
Not that it was perfect of course, the random element could really work against you and arguably Overwatch was a milestone that made microtransactions what they are today.
Guess I'll have to look into how many credits the game actually gives you to buy skins with.

I'm optimistic that Blizzard will compensate players for these launch hiccups.
I don't have enough rainbows to lay upon this post. 🌈🌈🌈

Did Acti-blizz just full on lay off every person who knew how to do their work? It's really been showing in all of their products for a good while now.

It's a trend to compensate players for horrible launches. Halo: MCC gave away one month of XBL Gold and Halo 3: ODST. GTA V gave players $500K in GTAO. Battlefield 4 discounted its DLC and added more. I'm not justifying these bad launches. That's just a way to get goodwill back.

you also need to consider only retards play 2042 to begin with, only people who don't play the objective are the ones paying money for nu-dice shit.

kinda the same for blizz drones when you think about it...

the smart play is tell your players to fuck off while offering extensive personal stats, but nothing retarded sweatlords can get their panties in a twist over

I wonder how many people at Blizzard actually do coding and technical really because of this. That awful Dragonflight trailer and the state of Hearthstone. it is astounding that a multi-billion company flounders and has been newly acquired. They don't even fucking know about Europeans being unable to play yet.

It's not baffling at all if you consider Blizzard, Overwatch, and Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 1 is an extremely limited game - to a point where they have to force a 2 tank/2 heal/2 DPS meta on even casual games. Making new heroes is extremely tedious because they all have to fit int one of three roles and there's an extremely strong meta in place. Overwatch cannot even support (or be played in) a deathmatch mode. No FFA, no TDM, no PvE, nothing besides a single line of objectives in a straight line. The game doesn't support any strategy besides team fighting and there's no major harassment that you can do to an enemy (you cannot destroy their teleporter if they have one, you cannot steal or siphon ultimate charge) that matters. Valorant, Apex, Counter Strike, TF2, Battlefield, Call of Duty and basically every other game in existence has way more modes - with some of those "side modes" being deeper than Overwatch is.

Despite all of this - Overwatch was a big success, most likely the last gasp of goodwill for Blizzard as a company - but the money came pouring in on what was literally a salvage project. Jeff Kaplan eventually literally performed alchemy and turned shit into gold for the company. Blizzard wants more money and decides a bunch of features loosely promised for OW1 (PVE content, more skins, etc) will be in the sequel - but the issue shows up instantly - what the fuck would you possibly do in Overwatch 2 that you couldn't just do in an Overwatch 1 Expansion. You can't take Overwatch 1 and suddenly make it a deeper and more dynamic game without changing what Overwatch is. You can't change the roles, you can't change the characters, so what do you do? The magic was already spent making Overwatch - and even then a lot of the "groundwork" was taken from the earlier "Titan" project.

Well, for a string of game directors of OW the answer was simple - quit the company and never look back. Each time it happened it set development back 6-18 months as the new director then has to try and find new ideas of OW2, realize there's nothing, and then quit. They couldn't figure it out and frankly still haven't. The only "drastic" change for OW2 is changing from 6v6 to 5v5 - which isn't drastic enough to even justify an expansion. I can scarcely imagine how many beta builds have been made, tested, and deemed incredibly unfun and thrown in the trash for OW's PVE content. The balance is so tight on OW the PVE content would drastically change in difficulty if your "tank role" player picked someone like DVA instead of Reinhardt - and if your tank is extremely good vs extremely bad as a player will drastically change any hypothetical PVE experience. You also cannot design encounters around abilities because there are 35 heroes with different abilities - you can't assume that every "party" will have a Mercy in it because you can pick other characters. It's an extremely stupid thing to promise to release without having anything resembling a proof of concept first.

You might think "well what's the benefit of releasing OW2 if it's so feature bare and unfinished" - well, that's how OW1 released and it made them piles of money. Of course they're going to try that shit twice. Overwatch 2 is a salvage game, just like Overwatch 1 was - only this time Overwatch 2 is salvaging Overwatch 1 instead of "Project Titan". The people making financial decisions feel they can shit out OW2 and the "core audience" will just eat it up, aggressive monetization be damned and honestly? After Diablo - Immortal made ungodly amounts of money - I think they're right.
Reading this makes me glad I jumped off right around the time when Ana came around. Dipped back in when Doomfist came about and then never again. The idea (if I am reading this correctly) that you are forced even on casual games to run a specific setup of 2-2-2 sounds utterly miserable. I remember we used to do full 1 character runs because lol why not, let's see if we can get it to work.

Wow, there are numerous launch hiccups, good thing players can just go back to the stable first game... Oh wait.

So I jumped into OW2. Tried to merge my account, but I'm in a queue of around 750,000 people trying to do the same. Played a few games of Capture the Flag. Still fun. Junker Queen has a good kit. Haven't tried Sojourn, and Kiriko is locked behind the battle pass (lol). What they did to Mei is a crime. New map is interesting, still need to do it on offense.

So if a person doesn't unlock Kiriko during the battle pass period, are they unable to play her forever?

Where's the PvE content?

The same reason people are calling Soldier 76 in a the gender/race bent skin Sojourn.
That's really underselling what a pest she is. Sojourn is more like you put Soldier 76 and Widowmaker in a blender, and then gave the resulting mix the mobility of Winston as well.
Fighting a good Sojourn is about as enjoyable as putting your testicles in a vice. She outputs good damage both up close and at range, can one-shot you with her right-click if she's fully charged, and if she's ever at risk of dying, she can instantly get out of harm's way by pressing shift twice.

That's just a way to get goodwill back.

No amount of freebies will bring enough good will for this Skinsuited blizzard. The only people who have any sort of good will for them at this point, or any point in the future are Shills, Fanboys so far up there own asses they still pay to go to blizz con and suckle on the tits of blizzard hype, and casual players who have not looked into the past and seen how awful they are now.

It's safe to say unless they fuck up 10 more times in a row this launch they wont give anything worth while. Maybe like 100 overwatch coins.

That's if they even give anything.

The amount of dickriding for Blizzard I've seen on twitter the last week or so has me convinced 100% that Overwatch players have the lowest standards of all time.

Halo Infinite got players upset with all the bullshit 343 did and now barely anyone plays the game anymore.

BF2042 had the same shit happen to them as well.

But Overwatch players? They're either abandoning the game outright or slurping up Blizzard cum right off the ground and getting defensive about any slight criticism of the game.

Kiriko shouldn't be locked for you if you've played the base game, you get her right away. She is locked in ranked though.

I heard PvE is supposed to come next year.

Blizzard's games have a certain cult-like behavior to them, that draws players to keep on playing them, even if the games have major issues. The fact that Overwatch is seemingly a more ESG-friendly game, compared to Halo Infinite and Battlefield 2042 (the only notable ESG design for that game is making Sundance a Black French non-binary anarchist with a wingsuit), plays a factor as well.

The only other games that I can think of that have just as low standards is the Pokémon games.
