Well, there seem to be two extremes here now when it comes to detransitioners. The ones who think they should be coddled and treated as if they've done nothing wrong, and the ones who seem to think they deserve NO sympathy at all.

Your stance would've been a lot more popular here 2-3 years ago, where detransition was more shocking, sad and new... Detransitioners nearly universally had our sympathy, but as time goes on, we've seen more of them that only want to leverage this status for internet attention like the troons and people here started to get jaded.

While I sounded harsh in my initial post. I do agree that it is the fault of our society, and medical industrial complex that tells people that they need to go on cross sex hormones and have genitals mutilated to 'feel better' if they're uncomfortable with themselves... Where any dissenting voices are quickly censored and considered as being a bigot Nazi... This is not a fault of one individual, and for someone to recognise that transitioning is a 'thing' to begin with, this requires a lot of media and propaganda. But at the same time, when someone decided to transition (unless it's a case like Jazz) this is usually from their own desire and commitment. The very people who transitioned are still responsible for their transition, it is voluntary, as much as they try to fool themselves as not.

But the problems with many detransitioners seem to be that even if they do not think of themselves as opposite sex anymore. There are still the same lingering self-hatred and body image issues. Those problems cannot be fixed by hugboxing them and tell them that they're never at fault, nor giving them more surgeries... because it doesn't fix the cause of their distress.


It's just counterproductive to be unquestionably kind to them.
