Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
I know right?! Like, I knew that del Toro's version was going to be at the very least, good, and leave the other two in the dust, but HOLY SHIT, bro, it's not even a fucking contest at this point.
Two more things of note:
1. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the art direction. The Italian aesthetic is gorgeous, and Pinocchio looks like a real wooden boy.
2. I also love how Pinocchio seems to be a re-incarnation of Geppetto's dead son, giving Geppetto a bit of pathos as well. (ALSO HIS SON IS NAMED CARLO, LIKE CARLO COLLODI, MY HEART, AAAAAAAA)
If this movie happens to hit a theater near me, you can bet your ass I'm gonna go see it. This movie clearly had a lot of love and care put into it, and damn if I'm gonna let it go to waste.
It really shows you that disney lost their passion that they once had years ago. Now just doing seamless remakes of their classic that are not as good as their orginal counterparts.

Well del Toro and his team show passion and soul in their version.

It got lost in the......mess of this past summer, but the in-depth teaser for del Toro's Pinocchio dropped during that time.
As expected, it looks to be heads and shoulders above both Lionsgate's animated abomination, and the Rat's (literal) shit-eating live-action debacle, but I want to call special attention to the Blue Fairy's design in this:

TAKE FUCKING NOTES, YOU DIRTY RAT. THIS IS HOW YOU DIVERSIFY AND UPDATE A DESIGN WHILE STILL KEEPING TRUE TO THE SPIRIT OF THE ORIGINAL WORK, NOT....

UNGA-BUNGA OVER HERE.
You know it's been said before but I really can't let an opportunity to use this clip go to waste...take it away blitz:

Plus it's co-written by the great Patrick McHale AKA creator of Over The Garden Wall, which is definitely one of the best modern cartoons in recent times.

The thing that allows you to have Gay Velma is the thing that allows another show to give her a crush on Fred! Scooby-Doo! Has! No! Continuity!

reminds me of the "response" Mr. Warburton gave rebeltaxi when asked about that "authentic $1,000,000 KND treehouse" Cartoon network offered for sale all those years ago and I quote:

"This was clearly a trap set by the KND. When some rich adult sent them the money the KND would spend the money on candy and send a bonsai tree filled with junk."

There is something delightful (heh) about Warburton still being so passionate about the series even after all this time. I'm STILL bummed despite getting as far as it did CN in their infinite stupidity said no to the galactic KND reboot.
Galactic: KND is my white whale.

Oh, interesting. I like del Toro, but his films are sometimes a bit underbaked. This seems like a perfect project for McHale's sensibilities, so the two of them together could work out really well.

A dangerously retarded combination.
Agreed.

And this might sound crazy but has anyone noticed how some of those cartoon and anime fans act like Chris-Chan?

I mean, they’re not completely like him but some of those fans act like their favorite characters are real. And some think reality works like their favorite shows and movies.

It's the same kind of delusion, just not as intense with all the other autistic Chris-Chan behavior.

Miss. Pot's died.

Miss. Pot's died.

This year has sucked for celebrity deaths that hit close to home. RIP.

I'm probably a minority but I remember her not for Murder She Wrote but for her role as the slightly mental and definitely scary grandmother in The Company of Wolves.

"Beware the wolves who are hairy on the inside, and will drag your soul to Hell with them!"

Brrrr.

For me, she'll always be the witch who took on the Nazis in a Disney flick from the 70's!

That’s exactly it. Same delusion but not as serious. But it’s still disturbing nonetheless.
Apparently Disney XD is having a whole Lumity marathon lol
This is why I am not a shipper or a fan of romance stories.

From the beginning? Did they forget that Amity hated Luz in the beginning? In the Beginning she had no qualms with exposing her as a human and trying to get her killed. Is Disney trying to pull a George Lucas and pretend the first season of owl house doesn't exist cause it was probably the only decent season of that train wreck?

BTW check out what got recommended at the end, It's like they know idiots eat this crap up like Jen from the Tranch at a Porto-Potty dealership.

God damn... OTGW. People always give Gravity Falls credit for being a show that lasted only 2 seasons when it probably could've went so much longer, but OTGW knew how to utilize its time well to leave such a lasting impact despite being such a short series.
