I think people in this thread are misunderstanding the concept of an incel. The people who frequent incel forums (places like Incels.is or formerly r/incels or r/braincels on reddit) would say that if you can get a gf simply by practicing basic hygiene and not being overweight, then you aren't a "truecel" but instead, a "fakecel". I tend to agree with this concept. Also, it should be noted, if you've ever gone outside, there are plenty of fat and gross dudes who manage to have girlfriends. Simply bathing and taking care of your health is not necessarily enough.
It's clear to me that technology and online dating/swipe apps has played a major part in the rise of incels. We've seen statistics earlier in the thread. Something like 30% of men under 30 qualify as incels now. 10+ years ago you were talking about maybe 5% of men who were exceptionally ugly or weird, but now it's more like 30-40%. That's a big leap, and I'd wager that men haven't gotten orders of magnitude worse in a decade, but the standards of women have been inflated due to social media and online dating.
A single woman friend of mine recently posted a meme on fb

Disregard the cringe before the meme, I found this on reddit, but it's the same meme that a 30 year old woman I know recently shared on facebook.
That is the reality for most women these days. I remember when I was dating my ex, who was my first gf in a few years, she was constantly getting texted and dm'd by a litany of guys. Most of the time she'd just ignore them and not respond, but it didn't matter, they kept coming. And she was cute, but not like a supermodel or anything. Point being that this is what the dating scene is like these days. Women have higher standards because electronic communication and social media means that most of them have 10-100 different men constantly vying for their attention. If you don't think this is producing results for single people who are dating then you're absolutely delusional.
In all honestly I am 30 and I get the sense that I'm one of the younger people posting on this thread. If you haven't dated in the last 5 or 10 years then your opinion here really is not relevant
