Seriously, why does every discussion about Alan Moore end up a giant seethe-fest? What did he do to these people? Every time it either comes back to an attack on his character and his works or people talking about politics and representation in Marvel movies like they're the foundations of human society (that only furthers proves his point).

God, sometimes I wish these interviewers would just stop bringing up comics anywhere near him. He doesn't care -- he's rehashing points he made many years ago, when he was pissed with DC. Just let the man talk about Jesus buying a house in Bedford in peace.

Please forgive my sperging, but I just hate how people talk about Alan Moore like all he did was capeshit over 20 years ago.

Same as with everything else, he refuses to like what they like and possibly even worse likes things they don't like.

I agree with you that people need to stop asking him about it, he said this stuff back in the 90's. And basically everyone in comics listened to him or agreed. He's able to use the same critique on the movies because almost nobody involved in those were part of comics back then so they don't know the conversation already happened. This was part of his explanation on why he wasn't signing off on movie adaptions personally. It's always painted as Moore personally being butthurt but almost every UK comics writer and a lot of US ones from the time have all the same opinion on this stuff they just aren't as blunt as Moore. Grant Morrison's said basically all the same stuff, for example, his DC work has been almost endless reconstruction of the pre-Dark Age.

It is growing, however one has to consider that as of last year about half of the total user count are banned or deleted, Counter's just there to attract advertisers.
Another thing is that a sizable chunk of the user influx are bans who make sock-puppets, the forum uses a number of fingerprinting plugins (at the least IP, and i think also cookie stores and screenresolutions) but i bet good money that it won't stop the likes of Shy, Enzom, or even Lime from rejoining along with a ton of lesser known users.

On the longer term, it's not really a place where people go to have fun or meet friends. The hangouts are usually well-gatekept bastions within the forum because of this antipathy towards lurkers and and distrust amongst their own.

There was a serious debate about this on GAF like a decade ago and it stayed a constant thing about the "communities" on there. NBA-GAF got shut down because somebody new to that community but otherwise not a newbie went into it and said something stupid and got made fun of and he went crying to the jannies so they went on a tear through the community and basically killed it permanently. Era's had constant fighting over and between PoliEra and SocialismEra to where most of the first has been obliterated and the latter mostly entirely obliterated. Get in spergfights, run back to their "safe space" that everyone can see to cry about the meanies outside the safe space, then everybody reports everybody. Then it moves to the "everybody's fleeing to Discord, can I get an invite?" stage and repeats.

Era has always seemed to imagine that the solution to all this is banning more people, even though they started the forum proclaiming the exact opposite because that was how GAF did things. The funny thing is that B-Dubs now rather than wonder if the jannies have made any mistakes in their janny ways blames those Discords, where the "prominent members" all organize and choose targets. Yet he leaves those members, especially troons, untouchable.

Most hyper political online spaces have that issue. Interest groups that want to jannie the place themselves have their own hangouts on Discord where they get to act in concert. Instead of just staying in their own echo chamber they all have to export their bullshittery to every community they're in.

This is why the closest thing to the anarchy that would be optimal, i.e. something like Usenet, is literally having a dictator who fires mods like Steinbrenner fired Yankees managers. They can't form these fucked-up cliques if they never even last that long.
