Warhammer 40k

This is probably the closest thread to this so I'll post it here
There is drama between Troll Trader/TTCombat and Secret Weapon that's been interesting
SW lost $45k in kickstater money (wanting to produce game-ready painted bases) during the pandemic almost shut down. They sent emails to companies asking them to buy them out so they could keep working.
TT instead offered them $10k a month in licensing fees to allow TT to produce and sell SW bases in the UK.
This was agreed and the money sent, but SW asked for $10k more before the second month which was also sent. A third request for money was sent during that second month which prompted TT to ask SW for their accounts, to see where all this money was being lost and SW was found to have "inappropriate spending" including a very high salary for the owner, Justin McCoy so TT cancelled their contract as it was clear that it wasn't going to work out for anyone.

Justin now claims that TT never had the license to manufacture any of the bases and that it never entered into any agreement with them, despite having sent the master casts for TT to work with and TT showing proof of the payments to them. When asked on the kickstarter where all the money had gone SW will only reply with "operations". Additionally he says that TT claim to own the IP of all of SWs bases and that this is the real reason he can't send any of the bases out to backers. TT has denied this repeatedly.

I may do a full autistic writeup on this but I'm not sure if anyone is actually interested. I'm just enjoying the spergouts from Justin on the Kickstarter page claiming that he's going to sue TT but doing nothing.

Think the second one is supposed to be https://web.archive.org/web/2022110...ttcombat.com/2022/07/08/secret-weapon-update/

We do have a general Tabletop gaming thread somewhere, but this thread's close enough. Please give a full writeup, this all sounds fascinating. As far as I can tell you have an entitled wargamer who thought he could make full color bases out of thin air and started just absorbing the money en mass, and tried to latch on like a leech to keep up the lifestyle he was "entitled" to by connecting with another company?

Fixed the link, thanks.
Secret Weapon does produce bases so they theoretically could fulfil it, I think anyway.
It was a successful company that somehow blew $65k from the kickstarter and other company and the owner just wont take responsibility for it because it would ruin his name.
I'll start writing out the timeline, it might be a little bit.

I just "love" how in a hobby based around building and painting non-historical miniature soldiers, people complain about a lack of representation or whatever, as if there's some magic force preventing them from saying "my space marines are all women under the power armor". or "my space marines are loyalist Night Lords who are also furries and the chapter master has actually met the Emperor" or anything you want.

almost like they really just want official coomerbait femmarines with the proportions of Kingdom Death pinup minis.
meanwhile, the (new) lady from Midwinter Minis wanted a Great Unclean One that looked like Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas. did she complain about Games Workshop not making one or di- WELL WELL WELL, WHAT HAVE WE HERE?

Gotta say pretty cool conversion. Also must add, pinup minis can be fun to work for, especially 40k based ones.

No. The Sisters of Battle have been canon for a long, long time. Almost as long as Female Space Marines have been explicitly not-canon. If you want to talk about things with the Sisters of Battle that DO concern the fanbase, they've actually been slowly changing them from being witch hunting nuns -- so chainswords and flamers, targeting light armored targets like heretics -- to being... female space marines (so big armor and bolters).
Na. They've always had bolters of both the regular and heavy variety. Its plasma they haven't had any of because heretics tend not to have things with a lot of armor on them. In fact, its been a TT balance issue for a while because their only solution to anything with high toughness or a 3+ or better save was to get close and burn it with a melta, which is... suboptimal.
Good point, really.p[

I'm surprised we didn't get more Furries that were into Battletech Clans.
Because A. BattleTech has managed to fly under the radar until recently and B. Clan culture is... triggering shall we say, given its emphasis on violence and contests of strength and domination while also possessing complex politics that can't be boiled down to straight good/evil (except the Jaguars, but they got what was coming to them). They're as furry-friendly as the Get of Fenris, if anyone has been paying attention to the brouhaha over in the World of Darkness thread on that.

I mean there was the furry who did a lawlsuit to try to own Battletech, but he's an old school conservative wingnut. But largely you're right.

I should look at the WoD thread but it'd probably give me an aneurysm.

I have no idea why you'd need to consume a highly detailed $130+ model if you're just gonna cover it in a couple of boxes worth of Milliput and then just mash burlap into it for texture. Papier mache, rigid insulation foam or even fucking aluminum foil would have been just fine for forming the internal structure.

Also re: the article posted earlier:

Gatekeep your hobbies unless you want them to look like the current state of movies, comics, western vidya or D&D 5E.

I'll say with 5E, it's really easy to ignore bad books/rule changes and just use whatever stuff you liked before. Infact, that's kinda the perk of how modular 5E is, you can take stuff you like and ignore anything else you don't like.

I’ve added a little more to it since taking these pictures but the lightning is pretty crap right now so i’ll edit the post later with more pictures.

As long as you avoid adventure league, yes. Otherwise you'll be surrounded with 12 year olds that never talk and trannies that constantly fight each other trying to be the face of the party. I've not had that same experience with public 40k games yet. My local shop is more worried about people using proxies.

I am just getting into 40k (started Horus Rising last week), and it's disheartening to see here that essjaydubs are already trying to colonize it.

"Fascist fans"? The whole 40k universe is filled with militarism, xenophobia, brutality, social stratification, political intrigue and treachery, and cartoonish disregard for human life. It's not a place for pussies.

These fags want the Imperium to canonically become a tolerant multiracial Democracy™️ hugbox overnight. If they want that, they can go watch Steven Universe.

Crossover. One of the ComicsGate guys speaks out against the faggot with a book to sell trying to claim 40k and it's fandom are in need of embracing the light of Jesus Marx in their lives.
So, we have a ComicsGate retarded calling out other retards, I'm sorry but if your opening statement off "Wargamers are usually right-wing", I wanna ask how far your head is up your own dickhole.

"already" is relative here. 40k is more than three decades old.

I've said it before I'm an OG first edition guy, the feel of that was way less serious, and some people don't like that but it was fun.

Heres what I dont get about "Oh lack of female space marines!" Part, like there were indeed a short lived models and mentions in lore, but we kinda have current female space marines, the Adeptus Sororitas kinda fit that bill
And who's to say a woman *can't* be turned into an Astartes, given that they are unnaturally frankensteined into superhuman killing machines?

Of course, that would conflict with their real intention: to have a girly war waifu to coom over, when space marines are often grotesque meatheads who live and die violently.
