I don't quite buy it either. That being said, while Baris and I don't agree about how deliberate and malicious it is, the House and Senate GOP leaders have been shopping for someone other than Trump since they view him as a big risk. DeSantis is definitely their first pick.

That being said I think Baris is jumping at shadows when it comes to DeSantis biting. While DeSantis has made a few doffs of the hat to the GOPe, it hasn't been anything more than Trump himself does to keep things civil on that front. Political Realism versus Poiltiical Idealism is likely in play here.

What he has as evidence is probably just about the same as I do, which is to say not an insubstantial amount. Where he and I differ is that he is more idealistic than I am and so sees what is a normal play in these times of the MAGA wing being polite and viewing it as a betrayal in waiting. I view it more as normal, again for these times, political pragmatism.

(Remember, Obama carried Indiana in 2008!) Those counties are rural, majority-White counties that have had their economies hollowed out by globalism, their young people ruined by military misadventurism and drug addiction, and all the Democrats have to offer is "learn to code" or lectures about how it's their fault because of their "white privilege". It's the same reason why I don't care that Joe Kent supported Bernie in 2016. Now if someone supported 2020 Bernie, that's another story...
