If you're throwing in every oppressed demographic into your cartoon/super hero movie (because it's almost always those two things) just for the sake of having them it's guaranteed they're probably going to be shitty characters. If you're making a character who's gay, blind or whatever typically you make the fact their gay/blind/a tumblrista an add on at the end like "This person is kind, strong, a little unsure of themselves and they're also gay" like it's just a thing they happen to be and otherwise they're a regular guy

Yeah, that sounds like fodder for the "I caught a shitlord this big" thread. I recall hearing about that too, on Tumblr. Blind devotion to "representation" without regard to making a well-developed character with a personality, particularly by people like dobbo who really should have known better (see: Alex Ze Pirate etc.), deserves all the facepalms. The irony is, what the SJWs pushing "representation" are all about nowadays, is equivalent to or worse than the "tokenism" they and their forbears whined so hard about years ago.

In their mind it isn't tokenism though. Tokenism is when you have a cast of straight whiteys and then one random black guy in the mix. He doesn't act "black", he's just a bland side character. No purpose other than the studio getting to say "Hey look! We're inclusive!"

What they want is for shows with entire casts of walking positive stereotypes who never shut up about themselves. The sex-positive body image activist. The ugh cis people tranny. The flamboyant gay paraplegic. The proud sassy black woman. The quiet, quirky bisexual nerd girl.

This reminds me of Captain Holt from Brooklyn 99. Ostensibly he's a tumblrista's dream: a gay black man as a major character. But he's also believable character played by an actor with a lot of personality. While his race and orientation are brought up (mostly for humor) he never preaches about it. This is not Dobbers' ideal "minority" character. His ideal minority character is a hypersexual lesbian who beats people up for having controversial opinions. Then gets lauded for it.

That's the problem. They don't want characters who merely happen to have something like a different sexuality as part of an otherwise ordinary character; they want it to be their defining characteristic, which is completely and totally stupid. I know this is going into real life rather than fiction, but I remember some idiots getting pissed off at gay Canadian Tory supporters because they weren't suffering from all forms of kyriarchal oppression when in reality they were most likely just pissed off that they were Tory supporters in the first place instead of voting for the Liberals or the NDP.

The few that are actually women arent actually "lesbians" because they are beards for obvious gay men, lesbians for oppression or guys using trans for oppression points.

Because I'm hugely fascinated with Dobson's childhood and what kind of growing-up experience would create such for whatever reason, I've decided to ween a bit and send him an e-mail to see if we can discover anything interesting. I doubt he'll trust it or send a response back, but it's worth a shot anyhow, right?

I'll update later in terms of the email and if I find anything.

I really doubt my $1 makes a huge difference in his life, aside from being able to super-size.

Oops, didn't realize this was an old one. It's interesting so far, though, because he claims around 12:30 that people "gaslight" him and try to twist the truth to make him believe he's a worse person than he thinks he is. This shows how delusional he is. Andrew Dobson is not a truly bad person, but he is a foolish one. He's made this fantasy world almost, where everything any detractor says to him is wrong, simply because it's negative. He refuses to believe that there's anything wrong with him. Notice in the video, he doesn't give any reasons as to *why* people are harassing him. He's the blameless victim who's never done anything "problematic" in his own eyes.

EDIT: As I'm writing this, he mentions "writing some dumb things" as the only reason he gets trolled. Dobson, it's not the fetish artwork. That's a punchline we use, but it's so much more than that. Please get help.

This is a sad man, and I actually feel bad for him. At the same time, only he can change things for himself. He has a lot of issues, but with a lot of work, he could function properly. It's sad, because I almost want to help him, but I know he'd never listen to me not only because I browse this site, but he refuses to ever change anything for the better. He's a "sadcow" for me, and I just can't look away.

Andrew, if you're reading this, we don't all hate you. Are we amused by your exploits? Yes, yes we are. But at the same time, I feel we know you better than your fans, be it for better or for worse. You say in your video "if I knew how to stop it, I'd have done it years ago." Here's how to stop it: Read this thread and take some fucking notes on what we've said. Make a change in yourself. Admit you made mistakes. We (the "trolls") are not totally blameless, but neither are you and you have to admit this. Go to therapy. Take medication.

Finally, and most importantly, start drawing again. The Inktober stuff was pretty good. Your old animation reel was also pretty good. You have potential, still, and you might be able to make something of it if you TRY. Or if you really don't like drawing anymore, find something you do like. Please.
