The pic where she's lying on the street I don't know. Though I think even the average person would not immediately start pounding on the chest of someone who'd just been knocked down by a car. But I was referring to the pic where she's being carried on a stretcher to an ambulance by men in uniforms. Those I presume have EMT training and one of them is repeatedly pushing hard on her chest.

That was probably a bystander in the street with CPR training.

Have you ever seen that police film with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy? It's about as bad as you'd imagine but there's a scene in it that is absolutely horrifying in its believability. Bullock's character who obsessively self-educates attempts to perform a tracheotomy on a dude in a restaurant who is choking. Honestly, I could barely watch it despite having seen FAR gorier scenes on film. Reason being it was the sheer believable ineptitude of the enthusiastic amateur which I suspect will one day kill me.

Probably through violent chest compressions whilst I've twisted my ankle.

I like the way they toss a few grants for police departments into every one of their politically and economically poisonous 'infrastructure' and 'budget' bills, so if Republicans vote against the bills, they can hop on TV and claim Republicans are anti-cop as brainless journowhores jump up and down, clamoring in agreement and clapping like seals.

Haven't seen it, but a field tracheotomy is something that's rarely used outside of massive facial trauma.

The correct way to deal with choking is the Heimlich maneuver. If the patient goes unconscious perform chest compressions. You're trying to compress the diaphragm so the air in the lungs propels the obstruction out. Chest compressions pretty effectively do the same thing, plus when they go into cardiac arrest you'll already be doing CPR so that's neat I guess.

Watching almost anything medical in media is fucking painful with even a cursory understanding of the real thing.

Edit: Also, yeah, performing chest compressions on someone who does not need them does a lot of damage. I had a nurse tell me that i basically turned a guy's chest cavity into Manhattan clam chowder after 30 minutes of compressions.

Part of the problem is that everyone volunteering at the polls is decrepit and in their 90s. At least in my experience. They probably couldn't even handle the logistics of a fifth grade class president election without fucking something up.

First the confidence she exudes causing other people in the restaurant to defer to her, then the slit in the throat, the sudden doubt on her face when a big wad of blood starts coming out and the dawning horror on her face and those around her as it becomes obvious she is wildly out of her depth. Crap movie, horribly believable scene. Still makes me shiver. Anyway, was just bringing it up because of your comment about bystanders thinking they know what they're doing when they don't.
