Tactics Ogre Reborn

I might pick this game up, who knows, if it sells enough maybe we’ll get another Ogre Battle game? 🌈
More likely another tactics game, but as long as it's not Current Year'd to hell and back, I can live with it.

Gonna play this as soon as I get home today. LUCT is maximum comfy and the remake is looking top notch. A guy called CoffeePotato has an in depth review on YouTube and he's scream cumming over the changes.
Sounds right. He's a turbosped about the series in a good way.
He made a fairly good guide for the One Vision mod, and it's still useful even with being well over a year out of date. Certainly helped me figure out what the fuck I was doing more than a few times.

Knowing Matsuno he'd just make it about Syria.

"Denam, we need you to use these chemical weapons on our own people so we can get support from Zenobia. Do you understand?"
Using Syria as inspiration actually was going to be the plan with the Kickstarter disaster Unsung Story. I really wonder wtf happened there.

So I've played through the game up to chapter 2 chaos route and stopped after fighting Vyce the first time and recruiting me a Red Dragon.

Very fun overall. The voice acting is generally really good, especially with those ocassional verbal tics. Although there are slight issues. There are some odd casting choices. Leonar sounds as young as the teens, Dark Knight Lancelot sounds like a fruity fag and Arycelle has a really, REALLY strong cockney accent despite all the other Walisters having uniformed accents. That and Leonar's reaction to Conway's plans for Balmamusa is a lot more low energy than I envisioned it. I expected actual shouting. Oh well.

On the other hand, I went down chaos to hear Lawful Vyce's dialogue voice acted and I was not disappointed at all. Also fuck Ravness, she is overhyped for someone who does nothing until she gets shot.

Well, this is a pleasant surprise. The 1.0 (and hopefully final) version of the One Vision mod dropped the same day as Reborn released. Maybe Soon™ I can get myself to sit down and play the damn thing all the way through lol jk I have to finish March of the Black Queen first!

As for Reborn itself, I'm torn. What I've seen of the mechanics are pretty neat, bolting some novel ideas on a familiar framework, but the muddy filter on the sprites makes me want to puke hard enough (and I'm absolutely petty enough about it) that I'm going to avoid it on principle for a while. If some enterprising modder can fix that, I'll be a happy robot.

The new soundtrack has more key changes than fucking Eurovision.

But who cares THEY FIXED CRAFTING.

e: oh and finishing moves can crit now.

No Balthier as it turns out, but Gideon Emery voices my man Hobyrim so I'm cool with it. Emery has a very unique voice that I wish got more use in games.

On a side note, I've noticed that stage actors tend to be very good at voice acting. I'm surprised that isn't more of a thing.

Half the VAs in this game are trying to sound like Ralph Fiennes. Not really a bad target to aim for, I guess.

Too bad he has that whole "wildly successful film career" thing going on otherwise we could maybe get the real Ralph Fiennes!

Just got my copy but I'm going to put it on hold until I get my fill of Monster Rancher, any general tips I should be aware of before diving in?

Getting the no chariot/no incap/no death titles on this version is a pain in the ass.

Starting around chapter 3 bosses can oneshot your frontliners with a finishing move even if it doesn't crit. They are immune to Frighten so that's out. Dragons can BARELY survive a crit but then something else will take them out shortly afterwards anyway. You literally have to sit a TK on their ass and drain their MP every single turn so they can't use any finishing moves and God help you if they pick up a phys card. Cards seem to be +50% damage and they stack.

Aside from that little bit of bullshit, this is far and away the best version of Tactics Ogre and I'm pleased that it seems like they had someone competent designing the game mechanics instead of throwing random shit together and praying.

Just wait till you face Dark Knight Andoras and his 500+ dmg Thunderflare III & IV shredding your whole party. The only reason I won his last fight at the hanging gardens is by criting him into the red card and removing all those card buffs.

That seems to be the pattern with the bigwig bosses. Just finished off one of those fights myself. Fathead knight with no chin.
Had a wall of golems/cyclops that come charging in + 2 archers, mages, healers and dark knights to boot. All higher level than the party.
The boss was rocking 2 mana charge cards and attack up right off the bat.
That fight is halfway up to RNG and the cards it gives you.
Took over a half dozen attempts.
Oddly enough the finishing attempt I had garbage for a card loadout.
Slugged it out with everything in there.
Killed the boss via chucking revive stones all over.
On a side note though Dragons buffed up with the beastmaster skill are pretty legit. Ended up catching a golem in the fight. Going to test that guy out with Warlock buffs tomorrow at some point.

My no incap run has turned into 4 beast tamers and 8 dragons.

I see no other way to do it except shoving a wall of dragon meat into the face of every boss. The oneshots just start coming too quick and I don't feel like fighting bosses over and over again.

It's becoming more of a thing. Square Enix has been casting English stage actors since FFXIV: A Realm Reborn. The Diofield Chronicle, Valkyrie Elysium, Xenoblade Chronicles....all of them have stage actors for a voice cast. Final Fantasy XVI is allegedly supposed to have them as well.

I presume that they're just cheaper and easier to deal with than American voice actors.
