To be honest, I don't want a Lucas subforum for Lucas. He's washed. I really think there should be a subforum to cover all the corrupt assholes surrounding him. These people are truly scum. This Ben stuff finally broke me on journalism. Before I thought a lot of media bias was just from incompetence or lack of accountability. Now I know reporters are deliberately malicious power tripping liers and they are completely off the leash in terms of being held responsible for their words.

Welcome to the New Enlightenment! No, really, I'm not being sarcastic. This single realization -- that journalists are malicious scumbags who lie more often than politicians and can absolutely never be trusted to relay any truthful information (even by accident) -- is the single most important step towards a much more pragmatic, useful and productive world view.

I've always found it bizarre that people will just blindly trust anything a journalist ever says. Practically every human being who has ever had specific "domain knowledge" about something that any journalist has tried to cover (even without an obvious bias or ulterior motive) has witnessed first-hand how hard they fuck up every detail. It especially aggravates scientists and researchers -- how many times has the collective press promised us self-piloting personal flying cars, cold fusion, warp drive and unfathomably brilliant and (or course) malignant AI are all just a short few years away?

Every witness to an event the press reports on has heard them get details wrong, omit important facts, reach absurdly off-base conclusions, claim things that aren't true and didn't happen, and so on ... all without even considering innate and overt biases. They just plain get shit wrong all the time at every opportunity.

And when you do consider that most of the time they're doing it on purpose because they're evil pieces of shit, it's astonishing to me that anyone ever listens to them or even speaks to them. Null's response to press inquiries is perfect: "All press are scum."

Point any of this out to the average person though and they'll still look at you funny, even if you bring it up in the context of someone fuming about how a reporter just twisted their words in a news segment.
