Another gem from briannawu.net.

Thoughts: It's fascinating to me that Wu, whose pose is every inch the nuts n' bolts, math n' science "engineer" nerd, has managed to create a niche for herself in the "industry" talking about the most airy-fairy, feelings over facts, insubstantial bullshit.

I cannot be convinced that Wu takes even this insignificant role seriously. To whit: Wu's first presentation slide after her introduction reads "Gender Contoversey in Tech". I imagine Wu talking herself into these presentations, and then throwing together a powerpoint presentation the night before.

All she does is harangue. These things are spoken of in the most touchy-feely, insubstantial way, or are outright braggadocio: "Give respect to get respect" and "listen" is about the substance of it, when she's not telling you she's made a non-parenting choice to "triple down" on her career. Uh-huh. This is Girl Scout - level social interaction training. It's utterly meaningless fluff. But apparently american companies are terrified enough now of the politically correct gestapo that they allow Wu to wear a hole in the stage walking back and forth, gesticulating awkwardly, making what she imagines look like sympathetic facial expressions.

That's exactly how I see her self-imposed deadlines for Rev60 working, too.

"Okay, if I publicly commit to do this very very very very soon, then I'll do it!"

You can count the number of jobs Wu has had with companies she didn't own on one hand. Of those positions, only one of them would be considered an "office job" and that was her internship at Trent Lott's office in DC. You are absolutely right about her having no idea what a typical work day or office environment is like because she's only been in one for four months of her life.

I wonder if Wu's experience at the Ole Miss newspaper a decade and a half ago is still colouring their judgement? That too is close to an office job as well, in an environment where most of the women would be chatted up frequently by numerous male colleagues because flirting, bit of male bravado and sexual exploration etc is such a big part of college and uni lifestyle. It just strikes me that she's still relying on that naturally charged atmosphere/experience and spinning it out onto every other aspect of the software industry that they barely know first hand.

Just seems like a logical extension of what she experienced/studied herself. We already speculate that Brianna has to study facial expressions to mimic them convincingly, and it seems this could easily extend to all other experiences. Because her experiences/what she saw first hand were crappy the whole industry must thus have a major problem. It doesn't matter what the facts are because she hasn't experienced them first hand so they must not be true.

The Brianna Wu guide to Twitter:

1. Decide upon a subject to speak about for the day. Familiarity with the subject is unnecessary. Subjects can be culled from Twitter, news sources, or if necessary pulled directly from your ass.

2. Immediately declare your complete expertise in whichever subject you have chosen. Again, familiarity with the subject is unnecessary. In order to bolster your claims of expertise, state that you have been "working in the field for years" or pull a random statistic from the same place you pulled the original subject (e.g. "your ass").

3. Depending on your feelings about the subject, you can proceed one of two ways at this point:

a. If the subject is one you like (e.g. random hipster thing) then do just enough research to find out what the general consensus of the worst part of the subject is, then claim it to be the best despite what everyone else says.

b. If the subject is one you dislike, find a way to declare either the subject, or the people involved with the subject "misogynistic", "transphobic", "privileged", or "gamergater"

4. Wait for someone to disagree with you, no matter how politely. As soon as they do, respond in as patronizing a manner as possible. Do not address any points they make, even if they are valid. Instead, dismiss their opinions as unnecessary because they are any combination of "white", "male", "cis", "homophobic", "transphobic", or "priviliged". Bonus points if you call them"child" or use smug hearts/emojiis in your reply (this means you win, no matter what)

a. Important note: At this point, be prepared to delete any tweets you have made, just in case the person you are responding to are in fact not a combination of combination of "white", "male", "cis", "homophobic", "transphobic", or "priviliged". This does not mean you should check first, it's easier just to delete.

5. Remember, never block anybody who disagrees with you. If you do, you would never know you were being harassed by people who dare to have a different opinion. Just report them to @Safety so they are completely banished from your little fiefdom (at least until they make a new account)

6. Final note. Stay away from Medium.com. That's where people go to post the truth about you when they're banished from Twitter.

Tech, as it were, is a huge industry. Gaming is a relatively small component of what is normally considered the tech industry. Silicon Valley startups, while highly visible, do not make up the majority of what is considered the tech industry. It's also an industry which is results orientated and clamoring for anyone and everyone who can achieve those results - thus making the only real litmus test for inclusion the actual ability to do the job. I would argue that tech is probably the most inclusive highly lucrative growth industry on the planet right now. There are few industries outside of the "goth nightlife industry" where I have regularly seen so many transgendered people so readily accepted.

If Wu thinks the tech industry is sexist or has a problem with sexism, transphobia or inclusion, wait till she sees what it's like working in finance or law.

Here's an easy way to put you foot in your mouth while being a hyprocrital shitheel at the same time: Be Brianna Wu.

"Your self pity is not the point." said Wu, bemoaning everything that is wrong with her life, because of Gamergate.

It's becoming increasingly diffucult to remain calm when reading the horse shit that is Wu's twitter feed.
Practice what you preach then, Mrs. COMPLETELY CIS BRIANNA WU.

Wu's whole thread is a gold mine for anyone who wants to yell at her for cisplaining and talking over transpeople.

*EDIT* By the way, whoever is running https://twitter.com/WhenIsRev60Out is a real trooper, and demonstrates how to keep a Twitter account going that annoys Wu going while obviously being in the rules.

Just to play devil's advocate for a second...and I hate to defend Wu in any capacity...but most people consider that battle flag to be "the Confederate flag." True they wouldn't recognize the Stars and Bars if they saw it...and I've even seen it referred to, inexplicably, as the Stars and Bars...but it's one of those things that it's just generally accepted as being something even if it's not. Like someone calling any generic brand of cotton swabs Q-tips or any brand of adhesive bandages Band-Aids.

Though being from Mississippi and the most intelligent entity to ever draw breath, I agree Wu should know the difference.

Going to have to second this. The number of flags the confederates tried to use for their national flag varied quite a bit. You started off with the Stars and Bars, followed fairly swiftly by the Stainless Banner (which if the wind was limp, looked like a flag of parlay or surrender) and the Blood Stained Banner, the latter two designs featured a quartering of the Army of Northern Virginia's battle flag.

Interestingly there was only really a wide spread revival of this flag from the 1950s onwards as the civil rights movement began to get under way and numerous organizations and states began to use it as a form of collective protest against policies like Ike's desegregation of schools, to the point he had to send the US Army to effectively occupy Alabama. Because the "Confederate Flag" was nice and distinct from the US one it became more wide spreadly adopted by former confederate states as a kind of low level protest followed by adoption of "shared heritage" due to the stark cultural differences of those states compared to other parts of the USA.

If you google "Confederate flag" you get the battle flag, and this is the Confederate Flag to most folks these days, in fact most people on the street, even in the deepest South would probably not recognize the flags correctly if you showed them.

I agree with both of you.

And I could have made my point more clearly. If Flynt/Wu is going to lecture people about the Confederate flag, he should have some knowledge of what he's talking about. Calling the Army of Northern Virginia battle flag "the Confederate flag" is what you would expect -- as @Ponderous Pillock and @Butta Face Lopez note -- from the uninformed general public, not from someone who is hectoring his opponents on the subject.

Just fucking say it, Wu.

It's amazing how much Wu's world crashes into nothingness if he ever becomes Frank's third ex-wife. He'll probably have to live in his car again.

Considering she's never earned anything while married to Frank, and they don't have children or any significant assets, would she even get alimony? 40 year old jobless, skilless Wu with no money. She'd be fucked.

I'm 100% certain that academia is glad that you aren't part of it either.

Doesn't stop you from talking like you know how research works all the time though. Using word like "scientifically" and "research" in your tweets just looks retarded, but please, do keep using them. It's funny!

The snip of the paper(?) looks reasonable in the context that can be established. The use of language is a field of research not only for linguists but also in psychology.

I was wondering about that. Do they have a prenuptial agreement?
Probably. But even if they don't, wouldn't Wu be entitled to receive alimony just because Frank earns more money and them being married for a while? Keeping up the "standard of living" (whatever that means in the Wu household) and all that.

So, a small dusty room that just looks airy?
