Why is Phil so aggressively stupid about everything when he has a fucking laptop in front of him and a phone in his pocket? Why is it that he can't just disagree with someone, he has to talk about how stupid they are even though he is almost always the one that's wrong? Anybody who has stepped outside would know that there are privately owned public spaces. There's even an acronym for them, POPS.

because phil is someone who has undeniably been called stupid all his life. by his teachers, by his coworkers, by his employers. there's absolutely no way he has gone through life without being called an idiot, a moron, and stupid by the vast majority of people he has had to interact with. this is the man who had to get a work-issued laptop so he could continue working after office hours because he was unable to get his work done in time at a 9-5 job.
and because phil is stupid, instead of going "everyone keeps calling me an idiot, maybe I should adjust how I approach things/look into things more" he instead got furious and internalized it and now calls anyone else an idiot before they call him one.
not to psycho-analyze him but I thought it was pretty obvious why he does it.
