In my experience, administration prefers to pretend they didn't hear anything and sweep it under the rug. Woman keeps fucking older students? She teaches only Freshmen now, no explanation (because that would be admitting there's a problem). Male teacher has a history of DUIs and has impregnated female students? No comment, we don't know what you're talking about.

It becomes an open secret. All the students know. Some even try to use it to their advantage, like getting good grades for little work because the pedo thinks she's cute. The most reasoning I ever heard is that the schools can't afford a scandal because they're already running low on staff. Any more lost, and they'd have to shut down.

Truancy laws are a thing in the States, and some individual states and counties actually require some kind of registration to do anything different. Some actually mandate reporting a regular intervals with home inspections. In some states up until the 90's it was actually illegal until the HSLDA sue the bejeesus out of a lot of people and got case law on the books.

Not everyone can afford private or charter, and most are generally too lazy or need the 2 incomes to do home education. So yeah... You are kind of compelled to go, or face CPS and have the kids taken... Unless you live in the hills of West Virginia or something...

I'm not defending public school. I'm saying homeschooling is a still a "viable" choice (I acknowledge it is not truly viable because it's been gutted like 2A).

I went to an public school in the US actually, a shitty inner city one because my father said "You have to learn to interact with people", not sure if he was just lazy). 60+% Section eight, 50% black, and 30% illegal so I'll let you decide what you think goes on there. Far as I'm aware the conclusions I got was:
1) The answer to violence, is extreme violence.
2) A sizable minority cannot be reasoned with and can only be resolved by overwhelming force.
3) You cannot teach to one who wishes not to be taught.

School is a microcosm of society unfortunately, but without most of the consequences and is thus a pseudo-anarchy of sorts. The proper response to beating other than getting out with minimal injuries is to beat the living shit out of them either immediately or sometime later.

Pretty sure I ended up relatively okay outside of being autistic on the farms. No criminal record (expunged or sealed), employed and generally self-reliant (Don't own land yet and can't really do everything on cars yet).

For me most of my issues were teachers trying to screw with since they felt "threatened". I was ~5'7" (Can't remember exactly) in 3nd grade and had visible facial hair. I got suspended and struggle sessioned mutiple times for questioning something taught. Thankfully my parents had my back and told the school to eat shit and fuck off.
Also kept a disguised weapon of some sort since 1st grade. For me it was a sharpened scissor.

Spoiler: two specific RL examples when I was in school

-Cousin (Foreigner staying for one semester in US) and I got jumped by three niggers in 4th grade while walking home. Ran away like a bitch (never forgave the coward) when I pulled him out from the beating so had to fight 2v1. Ended up with 10 stitches across my leg, several stab/slash wounds to the hands and arms (some still visible today).

Fast forward a few months (I'm patient and waiting to bide my time), baited him into an argument at recess in camera view but outside of hearing, called him a nigger. Let him hit me and proceed to beat him past his unconsciousness before I got pulled off by the adults. Didn't get bothered at ever again until the freshman year of HS.

-High school where some senior homosexual who didn't know the previous incident thought he was Fleece Johnson in the locker room since I was a freshman. Took a padlock to the face, shoved his neck between the locker door and proceeded to break all his fingers in one hand. No problems rest of HS.

Personal confirmation bias here, but I have never seen truancy laws enforced unless it's against a successful grade-wise kid. Maybe because it was a shitty inner city school? Like you'd see some of the truant niggas in my school literally playing basketball across the street and the school didn't care.
Or in one case, nigga got busted robbing (middle class white/asian/hispanic) suburban homes across the other side of the highway in a gang with firearms in broad daylight. School had him marked "present" for funding bucks so something was done wrong.
