This is incredibly premature. The Ukrainian Army has no reason to retreat out of entrenched positions atm since the M-3 and the H-32 are still firmly in their control. More likely the Wagner guys who aren't given maps have made some progress in Optyne to the South or the Bakhmutske industrial park to the North and think they've actually overrun the "city".Russian Telegram channels are reporting the AFU has evacuated Bakhmut and Wagner is in the process of taking it over. Once again, Russians are retreating forward while the AFU advance backward.
Besides, Bakhmut itself is bifurcated by a River. If the AFU needs to give up ground, they don't have to give up the entire city. Just half of it.
I suspect Russia's cozy relationship with China is also fueling the US and Europes all in push on supporting Ukraine. This war provides an opportunity to take Russia off the Geopolitical chess board. Which would be a huge coup as tensions with Xi's China continue to rise.Sounds like the divide is being drawn. How long before this comes to a head now we got lines in the sand?
