What happened is in the 1990s, corporations were compelled to start taking steps to improve diversity. You needed more women & blacks on the payroll to avoid lawsuits. The serious men who ran things had no idea where to put them, so they decided, by and large, to put them in the place where they'd be best at helping the company avoid lawsuits - Human Resources.

I would think the original intent of that was to NOT discriminate hiring solely based on race. I'm sure there are stories out there of corporations having token people JUST to avoid lawsuits.

The unspoken stance here is that teachers and other members of the party (NGOs like Mermaids UK et all) have some form of parental rights over the children they come into contact with, and that by disagreeing with the party stance on transsexualism, you instantly lose some of your parental rights.

The problem is the CRA provides no clear standards about what discrimination is. It's up to the judge. Various lawsuits in the 70s and 80s made it clear that not only is the standard vague, but that it moves to the left every couple years, so the only way to avoid massive fines is to run ahead of what you thing Harvard Law is going to be saying is discrimination 10 years from now.

Governor Ducey here in AZ planted shipping containers, stacked two high, with razor wire in areas where there is high traffic and the border wall is not complete.
This morning, the Feds filed a lawsuit against the State of Arizona for him doing so because he placed them on "federal land" and the Feds want them removed immediately. Ducey basically responded with "fuck you... show me what barriers you're going to put in place and your timeline for doing so and THEN I'll remove them."

So, looks like a showdown a'coming to the Yuma area OK Corral.

But this just solidifies the fact that the Feds WANT the border open.

My front yard is landscaped with cactus. MEAN cactus with big thorns. One of the best psychological deterrents out there against home robberies. Ask anybody whose ever gotten too close to a jumping (cholla) cactus . They are total bastards and trying to remove a cholla wedge from anywhere on your body just gets you poked even more.

No. After reading, and seeing, enough about how the world got to the state it is today, I'm not giving any benefit of the doubt to the government that the CRA era laws weren't intended to lead to what we have today. Do not sell me the load of bullshit that is the concept, that these people weren't aware of how those laws could be leveraged in the future.

1964 is not that long ago. Plenty of people who were in politics then, are in politics right now pushing this shit.

The people who wrote the Bill and voted on it were probably around 60 on average when they enacted it. Arguing that its negative consequences were foreseeable then because current politicians, who, if they were alive then, were at best in their 30s when the law was ratified and had literally no political power to speak of, are pushing a radically different interpretation of the law than what it literally says, is a fundamentally retarded statement.

Edit: So this is very explicitly clear, I'm not against the ideas behind that such as ending segregation and all that good shit. But they wrote the laws they did, the way they did, for a reason. Unless I'm supposed to believe over a hundred lawyers can read a document and fuck up that badly on "accident".

The major flaw in your argument is that the law is fairly vague in places that can be interpreted any which way you choose to advance your point. Lawyers live off that shit, but more importantly, it allows for good litigators to twist the law into knots and deviate from the original meaning and intent, especially if their arguments dont rely on the congressional record. This isn't an accident, but its also not intentionally designed to lead to the current state of affairs.

You also ignore two things: first, that the law we have now is not the law at the time the statute was enacted, since you have a shit ton of case law and various amendments that have been added onto it since 1964. Second, the main issue with our current understanding of civil rights is die to extralegal practices rather than the law on the books. DEI and other woke corporate practices are fundamentally private actions which arguably enter into illegality but aren't prosecuted for various reasons. We can talk about how ultra liberal judges effectively stymie legal actions by white employees related to affirmative action policies, but most of this DEI stuff is still around because it hasn't yet been challenged in court.

Bullshit. The Age of Entitlement very clearly laid out how the federal apparatus moved with lightning speed to abuse the CRA the second it was enacted. The drafters knew exactly what they were doing: giving the federal government the power to violate the Constitution for the sake of punishing those damn dirty Southerners.

My biggest issue with CRA is that it's constitutional basis for private action is in the commerce clause, which makes absolutely no sense. I'd prefer Thomas's interpretation that it should be based in the 14th Amendments Privileges and Immunities Clause, which it sadly isn't because of some clearly retarded decisions made in the 1870s.

If you really want to place political blame for the "Age of Entitlement," you should really blame the New Deal for creating the modern monster of the administrative state that ignores the text of the constitution for shortsighted decisions based on expediency rather than actual constitutional interpretation, the disastrous failings of the Great Society (which is at best tangentially related to the CRA), the ass backwards policy of reopening the floodgates of unchecked immigration through the Immigration and Nationality Act, and finally the decision to rapidly expand and oversubsidize a higher education system based more on perpetuating dogma than on actually creating useful members of society.

They do, nopal cactus. Basically paddle cactus that they harvest the new, young paddles from before they develop thorns. Served in a lot of Mexican dishes. I've had it several times. Not great, not bad. Reminded me of a taste similar to asparagus.
