If he thinks it isn’t corruption, then wouldn’t the answer be “because they aren’t supposed to be banning private companies willy nilly?”

Personally I’ve always felt that the tiktok spying is no worse than Facebook, Twitter, discord etc, so I don’t consider it bounds for being banned unless all of those sites get banned too. Really I’d just rather the spying and data collection be banned instead, but the world never works that way

See it steals info about you. Then sends that info to the Chinese spies in your area. The spies then befriend you pretending to like what you like, then covertly steer you into viewpoints they want you to hold, turning you into a tool of the CCP.

Or it's based on the theory that every single company based in China is subservient to the diktats of the Communist Party of China. The main concern doesn't seem to be that TikTok harvests user data (as all social media does) but where that data ends up and who has access to it. The idea that not only user data and potentially A/V recording through user's phones (a tool the US intel community already use every day) but the huge social/cultural influence TikTok holds (particularly with the young) seem to be the biggest worries.
