The Walking Dead

Honestly, the only thing that kept anyone watching seems to be sunk cost; you already watched until the part where Negan shows up/the zombie larpers show up/ something else happened, so might as well watch until the end.

True. And I’m watching this red carpet show which seems to be in a back alley, but WHY THE FUCK IS DEMI LEVATO here? I know she’s officially a brain-damaged zombie in real life, but please get the fuck off my screen.

In other news, the ending was not as bad as I thought it would be. That is not a compliment. None of this made any sense. And Angela Kang admitted as much during Talking Dead saying that they had to fit too much into a tight schedule (while she also went into a coughing fit, no doubt giving the gift of coof to everyone in attendance. I’m not joking about this; even JDM/Negan seemed to have laryngitis and could barely speak. But AMC has to promote the new shows, now don’t they?).

Getting down to the show…
We have two deaths immediately. I’m sorry, don’t care. Oh, one is from Magna’s old group. Ohhh. That’s why they care! Sorry, I was actually worried about the kid in a vacant hospital, and not the dude who you only know from…Starwars? Some space shit where the actor made way more money? Anyway, Luke is dead.

Don’t worry about Judith, though. She gets up multiple times in between being comatose and immediately after surgery.

Eugene, Gabe, and Rosita run into walkers while each are strapped with babies to their backs. FUCK YOU AMC. Fat ass Eugene is going to survive, so you can too Rosita! Or not. You can also die in the most peaceful way possible on this show, not sweating from fever or anything, just close your eyes.

How much did they pay for the songs Cult of Personality and Landslide?

Y’all couldn’t even invite Negan for the Thanksgiving type dinner? Just nodded at him through the window? FUCK YOU AMC.

Oh, they forgot Michonne should not be in her Wakanda outfit. Oops. That was a mistake right? It was right…?

i saw how the comics ended so i stopped watching the show entirely because they kept adding cringe characters and killing off staples

Three spinoffs: Daryl in Europe with the variants there, Negan and Maggie in NYC, and Rick and Michonne's three movies have been turned into a spin-off too. There's also, Fear the Walking Dead.

If anything with the end of Walking Dead we'll be getting more WD shit than we've ever had.

I'd be excited about the Negan spinoff if Maggie wasn't attached to it. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a great fucking actor.
negan is the only good character left at least by the point i stopped watching

I can kind of see Daryl getting his spin-off, i think it was obvious that he was supposed to be Rick's replacement as main character when Lincoln wanted out. But how in the Lord's name are we supposed to take that Negan and Maggie are gonna end up having misadventures in fucking New York? Why would they end up there? Far be it for me to ask for things to be somewhat consistent much less make sense, but
  • Maggie made it clear that while Negan has done more than his fair share to redeem himself, she can't forgive him.
  • Both Negan and Maggie are parents now and should really try staying where it's safe, be it Alexandria, Commonwealth or Whereverthefuckelse.
  • And really? New York? The one place on Earth that doesn't need zombies to be a post-apocalyptic shithole? :story:

He's the only reason to keep watching, too.

My thinking is that they will have it as Maggie did something really fucked up when she left the show, and now she has to fixing it/it's coming back to bite her and she has no choice to get there and make things right, and Negan's guilty conscience forces him to follow her, probably because it's somehow tied to his previous group or some shit.

It doesn’t seem this show gives a flying fuck about kids. Michonne left a very young RJ and Judith to go on a mission to find Rick because she found some old boots and a drawing on a cell phone; mind you, this was after an episode where she literally slaughtered children to get Judith back from a psycho.

Negan walked off at the end, and we only know that he sent Judith her compass via a package. Since it was a year afterwards, I’m assuming he took wife and baby with him somewhere, but who knows.

AMC doesn’t give a shit, and neither should we.

Oh man, I keep forgetting that episode is a thing!

Michonne: Psychos kidnapped my babygurl, fuck dem kids!

Also Michonne: Old boots and a old Nokia's wallpaper?! I'm gone to Wakanda, gonna find my babydaddeh! Fuck dem kids!

Character development!!

I never watched the show prior to this year, and I never read the comics (probably won't). Sat in a call with some buddies and marathoned the entire show over the course of several months and I can honestly say it's some of the best television I have ever seen. Negan was definitely one of the reasons to keep watching, but the whole cast held up pretty well after Rick exited the show. I was particularly fond of King Ezekial, even after he lost the Kingdom, Father Gabriel, Eugene, and Aaron's story arcs. The factions, their leaders, and the interactions between said factions and leaders was what kept me watching, the show scratched that itch I've had since I was a kid and first found out about "Fallout". I wanted to see humanity prevailing in a world where it shouldn't - one where new and old ideas of order and civility (or the lack thereof) clash violently - I wanted to see war and it's effects in a world uninhibited by global authorities and codes of conduct - and that's what I got. I was promised a "zombie movie that never ends" and I got that and more. I am already planning to watch FTWD at some point and I will be watching every other spinoff intently, not out of "sunk cost", but out of genuine interest in the world that the show is set in.

That’s interesting because I always wondered if the show would be better off watched in a long marathon/binge session. It definitely was one of the best shows on TV at one point, and I have some fond memories of watching it with friends and screaming at the television. I may binge the spin-offs if I hear good things about it, but I’m not holding my breath.

Without having to wait months to a year in between season finales (and midseason finales), the show was amazing. The guy who hosted our marathon had watched along since it first aired - so when a cliffhanger or finale came around we'd get a lecture about how lucky we were that we'd see the conclusion the following night. The show is good - but it's amazing with friends. It can't be stated how much the show ingrained itself into our friend group's collective psyche - we all start Neganposting without realizing it sometimes, mimicking his manner of speak to prove a point or hammer something home - I can't tell you how many hours we've spent discussing what we'd try doing in a zombie apocalypse because of the show - it's a good show and it has definitely left it's mark on us all (in my day to day life). Plus, watching it all at once in a marathon - we didn't have people dropping out at the Season 7 intro like everyone who used to watch it did.

The show went to shit. Last I saw they added storm troopers or some nonsense.

I liked the first season of Fear of the Walking Dead because the initial zombie outbreak scenario chaos is infinitely more entertaining to watch than a bunch of survivor groups killing each other in the woods.
Those were just Commonwealth soldiers - that armor is effective at blocking bites and it helps differentiate Commonwealth soldiers from the run of the mill detritus wastelanders. Season 11 was amazing, as the main enemies were effectively the post-apocalyptic versions of Hillary Clinton and the CIA. The early days of the outbreak will be interesting to see (I haven't watched FTWD yet but I plan to) - but the main enemy in TWD was never actually just the dead - it was the living. "Survivor groups killing each other in the woods" is such an understatement, the wars these people get up to are insane and the tactics they employ to get a leg up on the enemy are amazing to see. The war with the Saviors was amazing, the war with the Whisperers had me on the edge of my seat for several episodes, and the war within the Commonwealth had me punching the air and screaming like a joyous retard. 10/10 television, pure and unbridled kino.

The armor was effective at first, then in 11C they ignored that and had soldiers getting swarmed and bitten when the armor was supposed to prevent that. It was made to withstand swarms yet a soldier got ripped in half without effort. Season 11 is one of the worse seasons because it has characters that should've died then barely did anything with them and it had a basic conflict that didn't use the Commonwealth to its potential. Pamela Milton was extremely generic compared to the antagonists before her, she's a suit that sat in an office while Lance did all the work. Most of TWD really is just fighting in the backwoods for the most part, it gets really dull. The war with the Saviors could have been amazing but season 7 and 8 are also really bad seasons. Season 7 is actually the worse season because you only have to watch three episodes to get the important parts and season 8 is when they killed Carl. Sounds like you don't actually care about good television and just enjoyed the hype train.

Yeah, watching it with friends seems to be the key. My friends stopped after season 7 or 8. TBF, it became repetitive after that. If they defeated Negan, there’s nothing that can compare to that. None of it really adds up after that point.

But I did enjoy the memes while they lasted

Now that the main show is over I'm wondering how much better it could of been if AMC didn't screw over Frank Darabont. The pilot episode is still one of my favorites and the rest of the season is much better than what we got later because it isn't bogged down with filler episodes. Apparently season length and episode budget was one the big issues between him and AMC.

His idea for the season 2 opening episode sounded great, it would of followed a squad of soldiers during the fall of Atlanta. People always complained we didn't see more of the initial outbreak and the way Fear TWD did it was crap.

At least Frank got 200 million from the lawsuit.

11C had climbers - if they were smart enough to strategize then they're definitely smart enough to look for weak points in armor - and if a soldier is getting swarmed by a fuckton of zombies of course they're gonna rip him apart - it's like 20 against 1. They definitely used The Commonwealth to it's potential - a large settlement where life had been restored to roughly what it was prior to the fall - and like the old world it was corrupt to the core. If you were pining for over-the-top civil war in the streets that would go against the entire idea of The Commonwealth - it's the illusion of safety and the ability to ignore the savagery outside it's gates (until you can't anymore). Pamela Milton and Lance were two sides of the same coin - corrupt asshats looking to maintain and build up an empire so that they could stay at the top. Lance tried to accomplish this by colonizing the wasteland, Pamela tried to accomplish this by grooming her son into being the next President - they both handled their enemies in secret using their fixers and false flags respectively. 11B and 11C took the show from "fighting in the backwoods" into an apocalyptic political thriller - and I enjoyed the change of pace immensely. Seasons 7 and 8 are some of the best seasons - especially if you like the faction dynamics. Negan's Empire is basically just a New Rome for the Wasteland - and he was the Caesar of D.C. Seeing Rick and his group get traumatized and enslaved, pushed to the brink by the Saviors' brutality, only to establish a coalition to fight them - and for Rick in the final act to pay tribute to Carl's wishes by letting his mercy prevail over his wrath by sparing Negan and helping the Saviors' to rebuild - was an amazing story arc. You don't have to watch "three episodes" to get the important bits, because if you've watched along since season 1, you already have some investment in the characters and the more shit that they go through, the more you want them to fight back. Daryl gets tortured for weeks on end in The Sanctuary, innocents in Alexandria get killed for other people's mistakes, Negan's Generals wreak havoc for the hell of it on various communities - and when the war kicks in everything gets cranked up to 11. Scorched Earth, Biological Warfare, using the dead as a weapon to starve out the enemy - a massive battle in a field where Eugene sabotages the ammunition and saves the day - everything about Seasons 7 and 8 kicks ass. I didn't "enjoy the hype train" - I was never really on it, I only watched the show in full this year.

I will always mourn that episode that never was. It sounded like such a great way to kick off the season, not to mention it could’ve been peak horror. The initial chaos of cities and such during the outbreak is always my favorite part of any zombie-related media (when it’s done well as least).

Darabont really nailed that feeling of “something is very, very wrong” in the first season. Besides, I was always curious to see what Atlanta was like just before it fell apart in the show. Would’ve been interesting to see all of the health checkpoints and evac stations they had set up in the city in order to keep some semblance of calm and control. And it would also answer the age old question of: How the fuck did the military fall to a bunch of corpses? I know the walkers were gonna be smarter in Darabont’s version of the show, but it still intrigues me to see how they would’ve pulled it off in a believable way.

Not all of them were Variants. In fact, the only time it showed any of them kill anyone in season 11 was when one climbed the guard tower and surprised that soldier.

All I'll say about this is that the comic did it better and the show didn't live up to that arc's themes.
Rick in the final act to pay tribute to Carl's wishes by letting his mercy prevail over his wrath by sparing Negan and helping the Saviors' to rebuild
Carl didn't have to die for this to happen. Carl was supposed to be the reason for Rick to lead his people and that got taken away, just to be replaced with someone's Mary Sue fanfic OC.

Season 7 is slow as fuck and most of it was filler. It was torture porn where the bad guys are cartoonishly evil for no reason. Already having investment in the characters is why it's not necessary to see them get bullied for longer than they should be. Let's also not forget the retarded garbage people, who are some of the worse characters ever seen in fiction. It took an entire spinoff to justify their existence and narratively redeem a character with a bad haircut. I can't understand the creative decision to have a nudist art colony that lives in a landfill who talk like cavemen.

the retarded morality cycle that the characters would constantly loop through ultimately killed the show for me

i think Carol was the worst with it, 'we can't kill, killing is wrong!' -> 'well, maybe sometimes killing is necessary' -> 'kill anyone who gets in your way' -> 'maybe killing might be wrong' -> repeat
