An old Muslim friend once took a lot of time to explain this to me because as a Christian and a survivor of the Great Satanic Panic wars of the early 1990s, I associate the left hand with occultism, such as the Left Hand Path, etc.

Allah evidently set a ritual for all elements of Muslim life, and in following those rituals one shows submission to God. The left hand was prescribed as the limb that should perform unclean tasks, and the dirtiness is literal and spiritual. There is one specific story in the Koran wherein Muhammad met a young man and bade him to eat as much as he like with his right hand. The boy defiantly ate with his left hand. When asked to eat with his right hand, the boy lied and said that he was unable to do so, so Muhammad rendered his left hand useless. Using the wrong hand is culturally icky because the modern notion that the left hand is "dirty" but using the wrong hand also shows defiance and a lack of submission to God, and is therefore a spiritual issue.

Muhammad (and Allah) would likely cut Chantal slack in this regard because she is a new convert (or revert or whatever) and an honest mistake is not the same as an unwillingness to submit to prescribed ritual. To continue to use the left hand when doing right hand tasks after being corrected shows a lack of sincerity to conversion or defiance. That's when religious teachers and the devout would be upset.

So FFG is technically correct that it is wrong but may be jumping the gun as to what Islamic reaction would be to Chantal's left pig trotter grasping the door.
