DOOM

Just a reminder - this weekend is the DOOM Open Beta... which sounds exactly how the Closed Beta was, but just... more open.

Bethesda also released a new video featuring the Character customization you get in the Multiplayer - when you first start up, of course you only get a fraction of what is shown here, but you tend to level up pretty quick from my experience (so long as you don't completely suck).

And yes, I know it's been everyone's dream here to play as a lime-and-magenta Space Marine while being repeatedly violated by a demon being controlled by a 14-year old from the Czech Republic calling himself "Cooly Blood Farts"

Welp

I think it's pretty fun. My understanding is people are really salty that it uses a COD-esque XP and loadout system, which is understandable I guess.

I've also seen people really angry that the actual matches themselves are basically exactly like Quake, which I don't understand because that's basically what I expect from an id Software game in 2016. Like IIRC Doom and Doom II's multiplayer was just going through the normal levels only there are other players shooting at each other.

If people were expecting it to be more like old-school Doom multiplayer, I think that's rather foolish, since I would posit that old-school Doom multiplayer, while good for its time, wouldn't hold up today. But then again, I didn't play much multiplayer Doom.

From what I've heard issues are that the game tries to cater for everybody and because of it Doom fails to surpass or even challenge the arena shooters like Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament that it (apparently) tries to revive. For console crowd it is Halo clone with demons, for veterans of arena style FPS games it is vertically challenged, slow paced Unreal Tournament with training wheels and micro payments. Personally I think the game just has too big boots to fill because of its legacy. If it was called Boom and not developed by id Software it would have received a much warmer welcome as people had had zero expectations for it.

So essentially it's the Oldie Gamers bitching about how in plays too much like a normie shooter because of the loadouts and it's the Youngblood Gamers bitching about how it feels like an old game because there isn't any cover mechanics and health regen.

Eh, whatever. It's a fun multiplayer. Nothing revolutionary, but a decent diversion. I'm just hoping for a decent single player campaign.

Well, there aren't going to be micro-transactions, at least.

Yeah, that's been my limited experience so far, with the caveat that I almost never played shooters multiplayer very much except Quake III and TF2, and I don't think I've bought even a single-player FPS since, like Bioshock 2. IMO new Doom's MP is a lot of fun. I can see how others' mileage may vary, but I think some of the complaints are just grognards being grognards.

I'm much more interested in the SP campaign, too.

why cant i fucking hear anything behind me

that seems like a questionable design choice

Welp, after not being able to run the previous alpha and beta on my computer (i barely got 5-10 FPS on both of them), i was pleseantly surprised to see that the open beta runs very well on my machine, so i spent some time playing it, and while i had some fun with it, i have some mixed feelings about it, the studio behind the Multiplayer previously worked on the multiplayer portions of various Halo and CoD games, and it really shows on this case, they tried to please both old-school and console players, and the result just feels unfocused to me.

In the end it's just a throwaway feature, i'm actually more interested in how the singleplayer is going to be.

Same. I never really played Deathmatch in the previous games or anything so it'll just be a bonus feature for me, like Dead Space 2 or something.

But it looks like today's the last day for the beta, so I'll try it tonight.

Yeah that's how I see it too. I'm not getting it for the multiplayer so much as the campaign.

That being said I did enjoy the beta. It was a nice teaser and was a lot of fun even if some of it felt very CoD ish at times. Doom is a huge name and it's impossible to please everyone.

As a side note I made my friend play this with me. Of course he plays almost exclusively World of Tanks and Warships so hilarity ensued. ;)

Holy shit, NeoFag and Reddit are concentrating their circlejerking rage on the game, even though TB outright came in to tell them that the game's still pretty decent and doesn't deserve the infantile rage they are having. I feel so sorry for these guys, spending their lives picking apart games without enjoying them.

I hope this game turns out to be good. I just very recently got into Ultimate Doom and I love it.

Played a few hours. Pretty great so far.

This,Single player campaign is pretty great, full of rip&tear with a good to great level design and a good amount of secrets and other shit
Playing at Normal at the moment, but I will give it at least another shot on Ultra Violence.
And lol at Arthur Gies trying to play it.....

wow This is some DSP-tier level of incompetence

This is difficult to watch, id expect a man with facial hair like his would be better at playing a video game. I wonder if he likes Die Antwoord.

Holy shit. Words can't even begin to describe how shit the player is.
Hopefully they won't be the ones reviewing the game, right?

Just beat the single player. If I had a nickel for every bit I liked it I'd have a dollar. Probably the best game I've played this year even though it's the only game I've played this year.

I've only played a little bit of multiplayer, but I feel the opposite about it compared to single player.
