DOOM

The new Doom looks like something I could play on for a good amount of time.

Still can't stop getting autistic over DoomRL Arsenal. Anyone else here play that mod?

It looks nice, but I could never manage to install it.
 
It's really easy. Get Doom II .wad, and DoomRL, it's hud and/or it's monster pack. And a sourceport like Zdoom or GZdoom, I prefer the latter for greater graphics quality and it's less glitchy for the DoomRL. Put them all together in a single folder.

There are lots of methods to play the wad. The first putting this in your notepad and saving it as a .bat in the same folder as the sourceport and the .wads:

Put something like this in a notepad and save it as a .bat

Or drag'n drop them like this. Copying DoomRL's .wads and pasting them to .exe's like the one shown below also works.

Bought new Doom yesterday, finished downloading it late last night, spent... I dunno, for some reason Steam's not keeping track, but I've probably put in about 9 hours since then. Just got the BFG.

Considering that I only played for like an hour last night, I'm gonna go ahead and say that I love this fucking game since I played it for about 8 hours today!
 
Decided to play Doom II with some other mods for a while. I've gone with Trailblazer. The 80's action movie cliches are oozing through the mod.
 
It feels good hearing that the new Doom is actually very good. It be a damn shame if the latest installment of the father of FPS's turned out to be a flop.

Meanwhile, I'm just waiting for a sale or a price drop while I play Ultimate Doom on Ultra Violence. : P
 
I have a metric shitton of free time coming up. Do I buy new DOOM?
 
It's really good IMO.

Just beat it today on Ultra-Violence, it was pretty tough, gonna try again on Nightmare and just hope I don't throw my computer out the window in a fit of rage.
 
I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to find the secret classic levels and little Doomguys. It's kinda fun to play old stuff like E2M8 but with the new Cyberdemon. I just wish that you had access to all weapons in the secret levels instead of only the original ones.

The Snapmap thing is ok but it feels kinda bare with only two weapons and stuff.
 
I don't think I've enjoyed exploring a game map this much since Metroid Prime, and frankly that's as big a compliment as I can give a game. I have an almost autistic need to find secrets in games and this is really scratching that itch. The fact that you can find the new weapons hidden in levels before you're "supposed" to get them is a fantastic pay-off.

The balls-to-the-wall, frenetic action contrasts brilliantly with the low key exploration. This really is a fantastically crafted piece of work.
 
Once I bored myself out of my flash game phase as an obnoxious tween, I moved into a DOOM phase as my old computer's legs started giving out on it and needed something that wasn't too 'resource intensive.'

Loved it. The over the top violence in a unique environment (seriously; demons on Mars would sound cheesy coming from anywhere else) and challenging fights was what honestly shifted me into a real interest in gaming. Really wish my current laptop had the power to handle the latest games (it's only like a year and a half old, but still); because I'd torrent the new DOOM in a heartbeat. Might try DOOM 3 to satisfy the need in the meantime.

Gooooood yes. Heretic didn't endear itself as much to me because some of its environments were honestly obnoxious to fight in, but I could play HeXen forever. Loved that hub system it introduced too.

I know i'm late, but DoomRL Arsenal is the shit, especially when combined with RPG. too bad RPG is on hold because of bugs with the dev builds

I collected ports of DooM, even played the TI Calculator homebrews.

The SNES version wasnt even that bad.
 
Playing the new Doom and I think I'm nearing the end.

Playing on Ultra-Violence and HOLY SHIT this game is a lot harder than I was expecting it to be. At first I wasn't sure what to think when I found that enemies drop health for you, but then I quickly realized that them dropping health is damn near essential to survive in this game. Enemies are numerous, and they hit hard and fast.

Gotta love how satisfying killing them is though. There's something about blasting a hole into a Baron's chest with the gauss cannon and watching his body crumble apart that's immensely satisfying.

I'll post my final thoughts once I've beaten the game.
