Overwatch

So I opened Overwatch to look at something and the main screen was some genderbent lighting god thingy. In the bottom right of the screen was a snowflake and words informing me that the Winter Wonderland event ends in 15 days.

No winter themed music.
No winter scene.
No What's New button announcing items.
No heart.
No soul.
No seasonal fun.

Just one little snowflake.

I haven't tried the yeti thing with Mei because nobody is playing it. We had a full party of 5 and quit both the event and quick play queue after messing around in skirmish for 25 minutes the game is a joke. I was curious on how the event worked because the current team of clowns took Mei's only unique ability to freeze targets away from her kit.

All the Arcade modes had fairly short queues day 1, it’s just that they’re all recycled modes that’ve been done to death over the last few years.

The influx of F2P’s have probably fucked off at this point, so we’re likely back to the core of players/autist’s that have kept this game on life support the last few years where there were no updates. There’s nothing beyond the Battle Pass in the way of Player Retention to keep any new blood around, and Overwatch 2 may legitimately have the worst Battle Pass I’ve ever seen - shit on Fortnite as I do, they’ve set the standard for what a Battle Pass should be.

Your list is missing the "onion chopping ninjas," as the gacha game Nikke alone had just unleashed an army of them with their Christmas event.

How is OW PvE gonna fit into all of this? I'm pretty sure they will half ass/ditch PvE in favor of a stronger push for OWL.
it will be MvM but even more sweaty (story? you gonna get recycled maps with horde mode from over 10 years ago). there's nothing worse than someone tryharding in a casual game.

It makes me wish for the days where we get to see Christmas Mei and Winston skins. The time when Winston played the role of the Abominable Snowman was amusing to me.

The winter game with five Meis and a Winston is still there, in arcade mode but nothing feels the same.
What's the point if you can't choose to be the yeti then play badly on purpose so the Meis get the wins they need for loot boxes?

I never get the high cost of skins. A dollar would be a no brainer buy if you play enough, five dollars is pricey but still manageable. 20 dollars is the price of a better game. Even if a whale will pay it, the other 99.9% of users won't even entertain the thought. The end result is both missing several times the sales and profits as well as antagonizing the player base.

The other 99.9% of users, I hope you're being hyperbolic here. You have to understand the mindset of playerbase in current days online games or games as live service (LoL, Valorant, Dota2, Fortnite, Apex, CoD, OW2, Destiny 2, etc...).

These playerbase, they only play their one and only their specific game for majority of their free time. They don't buy or play many single player focus games much at all. Spending like $20 skin for their favourite character or $40, $60 bundles once each month or every few months isn't much of an issue for them.
Even if they choose to spend money to buy single player games, they can wait for sale, because to them these single player games are side games, not their main. Taking a break from their main game at most.

There's a huge amount of psychology that goes into pricing stuff like this, but the high price tag is part of the allure. $20 is a lot compared to the cost of the game (which is often times free) but not a lot in terms of actual cost in terms of entertainment. It's just enough to have the item be rare/prestigious but also to have people buy it in some level of droves - like IRL limited run t-shirts and other "prestige" crap. $20 is very easy to rationalize as "going out for some fast food" or "seeing a movie" or some other flash-in-the-pan experience.

Some games take it a step further and will temporarily lower your hidden MMR so that after you make a purchase, you'll have a slew of games where you'll perform statistically better (because you're secretly facing worse opponents) and associate the good feelings/performance with the purchase. It's something that Activision allegedly does in Call of Duty so I would not be shocked to see it in Blizzard games.

Im assuming theyre not complete retards and have the math to show its more profitable charging $20 instead of $1-5.
Not only this - but even if nearly the whole company is staffed by complete tranny retards - the finance department will always be the best and brightest people to ever exist in a company and will be literally untouchable. The way they monetize games is the most crucial pillar to any company's success and every shareholder/executive knows it so well it may as well be engraved into their black little hearts.

Yea but people need to drop their current game to play it.

I wonder how one can genuinely find pro OW interesting with how utterly dog shit balancing is combined with the lackluster maps.
I never played OW. Only OW2. I really like the core of the game. however my buddy who played in 2016 confirmed my suspicion that the game lost all soul and completely sucks now. It is sad to see such cool game be so bad. The match making is so unbelievably terrible I can't stand it.

I liked this guy's video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUhKEB_9lAw

Competitive Overwatch 2 Is A Nightmare That I Can’t Stop Playing

Kotatu article I know, but it shares about 90% of my sentiments about the current state of OW2. No incentive to play, skewed matchmaking, bugs galore. I thought the seven wins, twenty losses method would improve matchmaking in practice. It actually made it WORSE.

Ditto. I couldn't even bring myself to play OW2 during the winter event lately. And I LOVED Winter Wonderland. That goes to show how Blizzard botched OW2 with its F2P model and patchwork engine rework.

I hadn't played since just after Christmas, but I did a bit today since Lunar New Year event.

It was sort of fun but still SO disappointing. Mei's new skin is cute but not $10 to reward Blizzard for this shit levels of cute. I don't even use previous year's things for fear of other players thinking I bought them. Don't want to set a bad example.

🐇Year of the Rabbit starts January 22. 🎆
That has nothing to do with Overwatch I just looked it up, and since I know it now you can know it too.
