Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Kinda feel bad for this one. But I feel like sentai theme in anime/manga is in niche category.
I mean, sentai is popular with kids, but anime/manga doing sentai theme or story isn't anywhere similar to normal sentai series, and toys. Then teenagers are growing out of sentai. So you have to pretty much betting on older generations still fond of sentai theme.
But then you still have to deal with competition of tons of other romcom series.

At least, it isn't using normal fantasy romance between hero/yuusha and demon king-queen. Someday, someone has to find or make a name for this category.
If thats true I wonder if Fuuto Pi will get a 2nd season. That was a great anime despite that I never got into Kamen Rider. Not even the live action 2009 show. I was more into Power Rangers. So you could only imagine how I felt about Jason David Franks death.

Anways next season I gotta add Danmachi into the list. I didnt know that the first 11 episodes from the summer was only the first half of season 4. So Im excitied for that 2nd half and Vinland Saga Season 2 on Netflix for January. Also Nigger-toro.

You'd think there will be plenty of otaku multi millionaires who will fund their waifu of choice anime/manga like happened with Made in Abyss.
considering there are plenty of nip nerds blowing huge loads of money every comiket, you'd expect there would be more of it. granted I can't read moon, so I can only see what makes it last the language barrier, but my impression is they use crowdfunding way less than the west which fully adopted it (good and bad if you look at patreon). the few there were feel more like exceptions, not the rule.

which is another thing, they already have a sorta-crowdfunding thing going with the whole doujin scene, so I'd expect them to already be more open towards something like kickstarter or even patreon that works outside the established publishing channels. but nips being nips it might simple be too new/too different, and given how they handle copyright in the digital space I wouldn't put it past them making too much money by selling stuff online (instead of a limited run every comiket) is seen as breach of the usual unspoken agreement. EDIT: which reminds me, apparently webtoons are now outpacing manga.

and that's not even considered porn, look at how much money poorly made coomshit in patreon makes, now imagine you get an actual artist doing it with some writing on the side.

That and some publishers are more geared to anime then others, I don't know how many of your are familiar with a line of magazines by Shogakukan called Big Comics, but they are somewhat notable for the fact that inside the line,
for every one popular manga series that get an anime adaptation around 3 or 4 receive live action ones.

There's not much talk around the line since western weebs only really care about anime, so what little there is centers around the few series that got anime, ones by established authors who have made popular series in the past, and a very few break out hits.
I only know of them because they made akebi's sailor uniform, different line tho (still hilarious to me that it's considered a seinen manga)

Now that the Fall 2022 season is wrapping up I can safely say that this season is probably one of the best in recent memory, there were still some shitter anime but what a breath of fresh air. Anime that would normally be shoe-ins for AOTS were all crammed into eachother and it really brought my faith back in modern anime.

Akiba Maid War and Do It Yourself! were sleeper surprise hits for the season. I really wasn't expecting Yakuza but with Maids and Lucky Star but they go to the Harbor Freight store to be as good as they were, but it was always great to watch on a weekly basis.

Mob Psycho and Spy x Family were really more of the same, but I don't particularly mind, they were great series already so if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Isekai Ojisan is technically a Summer 2022 anime but its so cursed that it ended up becoming a Fall 2022 anime that is going to finish in Winter 2023. I thought this was going to be a shitty generic isekai until I watched the first 5 minutes of the anime and realized that it was just Chris-chan in an Isekai. Please watch it whenever the 13th episode finally comes out.

I never saw Bocchi the Rock when it was airing, I had the episodes downloaded but I kind of slept on it. I didn't know it was going to be considered the best anime of the year. I should've dropped the shitty Muv-Luv anime or the shitty Biscuit Hammer anime over this.

I never actually finished the Chainsawman anime. I got to the Power introduction but I'm watching it with somebody who doesn't respect the finite time I have on this world, so I'm 8 episodes behind. I'm a fan of the OP, love all the movie references.

I wanted to watch G-Witch, did it come out any good? The last I heard of it is that its basically Utena but with mechs.

Urusei Yatsura 2022 is still probably my favorite of the season, but I'm biased. After going through all 195 episodes, 6 movies, and 12 OVA episodes of the original over the span of 2022 and shilling the quality of the PVs of the remake to everyone I knew, I was going to look like a complete jackass if it turned out to be another Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer situation. Fortunately, it turned out to be a great anime. The opening itself is probably my favorite of the season and the presentation of the anime is fantastic. My only gripe with it is that it sticks a little TOO close to the manga. While the original 80s version stuck to the general plot of the manga chapters, Mamoru Oshii or some other people on the team made changes to certain chapters to stretch them out to full episodes to varying degrees of success. Fortunately, they were mostly positive additions. The best example of changes between the 80s version and the 2022 version would easily be the Stormtroopers. In the original manga (and the 2022 version as well), they really didn't stick out much other than just being Lum simps, but in the 80s anime they were so much more. Megane (the head Stormtrooper) is probably one of my favorite characters from the 80s anime and he was basically anime original. If you are watching the 2022 version and have not watched the original 80s version, I highly recommend watching the equivalent episodes from the 80s version. There are so many differences between both of the two versions (mainly because the 80s equivalents were whole episodes) that you could watch both back to back and get completely different experiences. There are also some good anime original episodes in the 80s like episodes 78, 75, and 84 for example that I doubt will ever see the light of day in the remake.

Now its time for me to never watch modern anime again until the Dungeon Meshi anime comes out and solves anime once and for all.

PTSD Radio just might be my newest favorite horror manga:

You have to read more in order to understand it, because this is not your typical horror manga.
Hell yeah somebody is talking about this manga! I heard recently that the author basically quit after weird incidents started happening to him but I have no clue how much water those claims hold.

Most of the internet is familiar with the originals mainly for the dubs of BBC and Animax for how silly they are, mostly the movies got the dubs and mostly the second one is known because of the director and how it predates Inception or some shit. It would be hilarious to get another BBC dub

Okay, I respect the rest of your opinions on Chainsaw Man, but I must disagree with this one.

I believe the new Urusei Yatsura isn't a remake so much as a greatest hits compilation. That being said, it has been great. Mamoru Miyano has been absolutely killing it as Mendo.

I

I Think the most strange case is fate/kaleid liner prisma illya that started with a 2 volumes manga that got a sequel and another sequel.

But then in 2013 it got a 10 episodes anime and that was the start of this second life: it got another 3 seasons, 2 movies, novel adapation, game, collaborations and even more stuff.

2023 is the tenth Anniversary of the first anime season and we already have a confirmed sequel to the next part when enough manga chapters are made.

And it all started with a silly spinoff manga.
So when are we getting a live-action version?

I lost the appetite for the show when it was revealed Trigger does the animation. I wish it was Kyoani instead for god tier food porn
They did the PV for volume 8 a couple years back and as long as its of that quality (plus they get a good VA for marcille and senshi) there shouldn't be an issue whatsoever

It really is great to see how stacked the cast is for this remake. While I don't think the new Ataru and Lum hold a candle to Toshio Furukawa's and Fumi Hirano's renditions of them, the rest of the cast do a great job. Mendou is equally as good both new and old, they probably pulled all the stops to get him the best VA possible.

As long as they stick with the style they had for the manga pv they animated a couple years back, I don't have a problem with it.
And as long as Imaishi is not directing it.
Not knocking his chaotic mess of a directing/animation style, I do like it when he's working on a original IP.
Just don't think it suited for something like DM.

About Dungeon Meshi artstyle choice and Trigger, I'm more on cautiously optimistic, but at least that anime PV is animated by Trigger themself. So I actually don't feel really worry about it.

The Ichinose Family's Deadly Sins - relatively new manga (only has 5 chapters as of writing) about a family who wakes up from a coma and can't remember anything about their former lives. Goes in an interesting place.
ELDEN RING: The Road to the Erdtree - Elden Ring but Its a Gag Manga. Currently up to Godrick as of writing this.
The Voynich Hotel - I know this isn't the first time I'm shilling this manga in this thread but please go read it. It's kind of hard to describe without spoiling. A guy ends up on a hotel with a bunch of fucking weirdos and hijinks ensues. Lots of absurd dark humor all around.
MURCIÉLAGO - Hellsing but they replaced Allucard with a lesbian who fights with vibrators.
Helck - Gigachad goes to the demon world to try to become demon king, goes off the rails from there. Currently my favorite manga that I'm reading.
Totsukuni no Shoujo - Once You Go Black You Cant Go Back. Very good manga based on an Irish(?) folktale.
Sousou no Frieren - Not very far into this this manga, but I'm very much enjoying it. The hero's party already won and the main mage is just going around the world as the rest of the party slowly gets old.
So far I read Helck. Voynich, and caught up with Frieren. Didn't care for Helck after the whole humanity is turned into angels to beat the demons (Who effectively are just elves). I didn't really care for the ending and the main villain. I just kinda didn't care for it.

I liked Voynich. Wacky fun with a good cast of characters.

So I hunkered down and watched Bocchi over the course of a week or so because people here and elsewhere kept spamming her show.
And you know what? It was actually really good. Thanks for that everyone. Here's a funny crossover with CSM as a show of gratitutde

I'll probably get around to watching CSM in 2025

It’s rather interesting that 2023 will also be the year of J-pop boy band groups getting anime series. I guess since BTS is going to the army soon they have to find some competition to hold fans over until they come back.

I have seen a couple of animes over the years but haven't really got into anime. Is there a good starter anime or is there an official Kiwifarms anime watch list?
