Goodbye Volcano High - "The Future of Gaming", The Parody Game of the Beloved Snoot Game Franchise

Is evening dress Fang supposed to challenge our preconceptions of theysculinity?

The devs insist at every turn that Fang is a they/them just so they can post pics like that and gleefully ban everyone who says "you go girl!"
i would just comment on how fang's snout became bigger all of a sudden, must be coincidence...

Wasn't that discussed in Snoot Game?

That even as a they/them Fang would dress like a girl instead of as something else?

Just dropping in to thank y'all dino fuckers for recommending Snoot game. Only got around to doing one playthrough (Wound up with the Fang ending (the 3/5 IIRC?)) but it already has skyrocketed up my VN list, hitting number 2.

Bless GBVH for giving us a really good game in Snoot Game.

Hello Kiwis. I have some retardation from the KO_OP discord server to share. I haven't read the entire thread (although I did scan over the last couple dozen pages) so I'm not sure how wanted this kind of post is, but I'm making it anyway. A series of incidents over the last week that have lead to half a dozen or so people being permabanned, at least 3 of which were fairly common contributors to the 'community'.

Some primer information: KO_OP's moderation bot 'ini' is the gatekeeper and deliverer of bans for the server in a sort-of standard mod-mail configuration. Pretty much all public moderation statements are made through this bot to prevent "harassment" (aka accountability) of who's randomly banning whom. When you are banned from the server, the bot will tell you why (and by that, I mean it will say 'bad fit' with no further explanation). The issue is that because of discord's privacy settings, when you are removed from the server, you cannot reply to the bot to potentially contest or appeal said removal. I'm not entirely sure if this is just standard operating procedure for mod-mail based servers or if this is a particularly egregious example, but a lot of the bans that go on seem to be for minor infractions like "having an argument", "going off-topic" or "posting suggestive fanart", which become permanent and not able to be appealed.

First is on the morning of December 31st, when user Splash Blue posts an image of Fang.

For one reason or another, this draws the ire of a couple of sycophants who start trying to pick the piece apart as 'opposition artwork' or something, I guess.

All of the posts (besides the artwork) were deleted and the bot gave a boilerplate "pls be nice!" response.
A little bit later, the second sycophant (this one an underage!) comes out of the woodwork to throw stones (apolgies for the lack of consistency for these ones, I didn't take the pictures). All of these posts were later removed as well.

Later that night (2am EST), he essentially accuses the artist of treason and gets into a small argument with another user.
1672952912668.png

I unfortunately failed to capture this, but the user Blort had a minor meltdown, all caps-all bold raging at what he viewed as an unacceptable shift in the server's attitude. All of these posts were also removed.
The user Legalo was permanently banned without warning later that day (2pm EST).

Around the same time, 'wow bro i can't believe you jus' was permanently banned without warning for an unknown and seemingly unrelated reason. He was one of the few people in the last couple of months to contribute more than a single WIP/sketch to the fanart channel.

About 20 minutes later, 2.5-year senior user Jibblewolf petitions to the mods to unban user Castellano who was permanently banned without warning two months earlier for CORRECTLY predicting a delay. One of KO_OP's members (most likely an artist, the website nor his twitter profile state his position in the company) snaps at him because for some reason the entire company gets pinged when there's a moderation issue in their discord server. This does not result in a ban, although if I had to guess, being a long-time user/contributor probably played into that.

1672956468964.png

(On October 24th, they claimed the release date was "still slated for 2022". It wasn't and they delayed less than six weeks later, which I highly doubt was a snap decision.)

On January 3rd, user jade^2 asks about I Wani Hug That Gator (an upcoming VN made by the people that made Snootgame) as it was recommended to them after wishlisting GVH.

Instead of having their question answered in any way, they are almost immediately, permanently banned with no warning and no chance for appeal.

On January 4th, Splash Blue posts fanart of Stella.

Within 20 minutes, the image is deleted. It is deleted so quickly and so suddenly that multiple users are caught off-guard.

At the sight of questions and slight pushback over a clear overreaction of the moderation team, users JJ Meme's Conflux and LordFoodTheTwost are immediately and permanently banned without warning. All messages related to the image and the proceeding conversation are deleted.

Worth noting is that GVH's steam pages mentions "mature themes involving [...] death, drugs, and sexuality" and will almost certainly receive an M rating from the ESRB, and that's completely ignoring the liklihood of (horrifying) sex scenes in-game. Banning an artist that's contributed more full images (six) than anyone else in the last eight months (I fucking counted!) is definitely not how I would expect a thriving community to act.

Also, this is some of their official promotional material. "PG-13" my ass.

Anyways, hopefully this is at least mildly amusing to some of you and hopefully I didn't completely fuck up the formatting of this post. I have a couple more stories from their server but nothing as extensive as this if anyone wants. Also if anyone has any questions about the goings-on of KO_OP, GVH, Cavemanon/Snootgame or anything along those lines, I consider myself fairly 'in-tune' with that sort of thing.

That's honestly beautiful. The paranoia is playing out like they're on the receiving end of a military psychologic warfare operation.
Do you know how extensive the rewrite for GVH ended up being or what exactly caused it?
We know almost literally nothing about the current state of the game. The devs don't give out specifics on anything and tend to ban anyone who questions them on anything.

Do you know how extensive the rewrite for GVH ended up being or what exactly caused it?
Who knows how extensive it was, could range from some minor alterations to distance themselves from the previous writer to just keeping in what they had finished scene wise and basically ran with a completely different story. All they've said was that they're keeping the same touchpoints and keeping what work they had already done.

The exact details aren't known. What is known is that they fired their narrative director, Kate Gray, less than 48 hours after the initial announcement in 2020, and a couple of months later onboarded three writers from Sweet Baby Inc to replace her. The 'narrative reboot' was announced barely six weeks after Snoot Game's initial release. I can't find the tweet, but KO_OP's project director Saleem Dabbous publicly stated that "the parody game" was not the reason for the initial delay and reboot, and is to my knowledge the only person at KO_OP that has ever publicly acknowledged Snoot Game.

My running theory is that the Kate Gray 'posted CP to Kotaku' incident was so radioactive that they felt they had no choice but to completely throw out everything she had done over the two years she had been working on GVH in order to remove any possibility of association. Whether or not this will work is still up in the air because, as linked earlier, people are still bringing it up. It's entirely likely that Kate Gray's original work was what you would expect from your average 'sex-positive' feminist type, i.e. a mess of horny teenagers 'exploring' their sexualities in grisly detail, and for whatever reason it took the Kotaku thing being pointed out to them to get rid of her. I hope that if/when the game releases, someone asks her to go into detail on her draft of the script.

It's worth noting that the history of the company (as stated on Wikipedia) says that they have double-digit failed projects/prototypes and despite being around for over 10 years now (11 in April!), they've only had 3 "major releases": an Apple app store game, a 30 minute walking simulator, and a short - albeit cute - puzzle game. On top of the writer's crisis, they're likely suffering from major amounts of scope creep despite supposedly having scaled back major foundational parts of the game (there were supposed to be multiple player characters at the start), and their 4 day work weeks with infinite paid time off as well as getting funding from the Canadian government and God knows what else is making their pace glacial. By my napkin calculations, costs of development and operation since the start of the game have cost them somewhere in the league of 3-5 million (Canadian) dollars.

All they've said was that they're keeping the same touchpoints and keeping what work they had already done.
Keeping the work they had already done? That would be news to me, do you have a source for that?

We don't know how extensive it was, however, there is a trailer that was released shortly after or as the rewrite was announced... that was literally just the initial pre-ousting trailer with like the ending text changed.

Though I take that as an indictment on how boring and flat the trailer was.

Okay, I thought you meant that they weren't changing much. It sounds like they're still changing a lot from what was originally designed, and there's still some scattered bits and pieces around from stuff they don't want to put in the effort of reworking , which is mostly what I already thought. I kind of doubt there was much there to begin with, though.

And before I go to bed: Patch 8 of Snootgame has just released. Hopefully this doesn't come with any horrific, ending-ruining bugs.

wow what a fucking snowflakes.

Their server will be as dead as their game soon. Why all the idiots love to shoot their own foot?

Thank you @snootsnootsnoot! That was a fun read and I hope you'll bring more of that retardation.

Goodbye Volcano High x Validate crossover with abby from TLoU 2 as a guest, all 3 came from the year that was 2020 and they should combine to form an ultimate shitfest.

...We had an extra challenging job I think, because it’s not just about story-- it’s not just, “Oh this plot point would work better later.” It’s about the fact you have all of these assets already developed, bits of animation already done, gameplay sequences mapped… so you really are doing the work of making connections and building narrative between them, rather than coming in and making something from the ground up.

@snootsnootsnoot thanks a million, that was hillarious. I expect that discord to be a ghost town, who even posts in there at this rate outside of the same 5 spergs and a few sleeper agents cataloguing the retardation (godspeed)?
Scrolling up through the main GVH discussion channel over the last month (easy and quick to do!), you see the same 5 or so names, all but one of which joined before the start of 2022. Anyone who joined after either asked a single question/participated in a single conversation and never spoke up again, or got banned. The sleeper agents were already pretty quiet so I expect them to be pretty much silent going forward considering the recent purge.

Please do!
I looked through some of the old pages and didn't see this, so hopefully this isn't a repost:
This one takes place around the time this image was first unveiled. Layering issues and horrible character designs aside, there was some light discussion about it. Worth noting: People with lavender names like 'ray' and 'leaf' are moderators and people with yellow names like 'marsmella' and 'nicknicknicknick' are KO_OP team members. Other colors are irrelevant.

Pretty innocuous, if otherwise nauseating, conversation, right?
WRONG!
An hour later, user Themrowlpie recieved this message from the bot.
1673013126863.png

The log posted above contains the only message they posted that day. Was there some other reason for this sudden straight-to-ban on a user that had no previous infractions?
1673017442907.png

No. Mentioning "Jesus Raptor" - a meme that is over 15 years old and didn't even originate from 4chan - in any capacity is apparently grounds for instant termination. Unless you're this guy (who has showed up in this thread before!), in which case you're allowed to make the Raptor Jesus joke.
1673013605120.png

Granted, on top of the message not being deleted for whatever reason, Themrowlpie is the only known and recorded instance of someone being hit with 'bad fit' and not only getting an opportunity to have their ban reason explained in full, but to actually have the decision essentially reversed and be let back into the server. I consider this a massive fluke as well as a sign of the times, as it was a year and a half ago and things both on KO_OP's and Discord's ends were likely much different back then.

That's the other fairly significant tale I can remember. I have a few scattered memories and snips of very minor happenings, such as:
1673015119930.png

Underage sycophant does a background check on a piece of art that was posted, deletes it because the associated twitter account posted a lewd image of Trish eight or so months prior. Original message is deleted now so I can only guess this was around April of 2022.
The image and account in question (account is NSFW furry stuff)

1673015187565.png

Around the same time, local GVH superfan who has been obsessed with Naomi since Day 1 was not allowed to enter the KO_OP server.

This has probably already been mentioned at least once or twice, but these people do extensive background checks on pretty much anything they can find about you through your username or if you (FOOLISHLY) hand over your social media names to them during the application process. If they catch even a whiff of Snoot Game or other assorted chuddiness (like following a bunch of hentai accounts and NegativeXP on twitter), you will be banned before you even get in, like they did to this fellow here.

I think that's all I really have on the "KO_OP discord being embarassing and stupid" front.
