Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

I just saw Sterling recommended to me on Twitch today:

It's so nice that the platform about streaming video games has these very relevant tags on them, so helpful.

I'm surprised he isn't jumping on the Hogwarts Legacy hate bandwagon while it's in vogue at the minute. Apparently Troons are upset because it's in the Steam and PS5 top sellers and they have been tagging it with things like "villain protagonist" (kind of redundant when you can do the whole good/evil play through a la mass effect) "NSFW" and worst of all to them no doubt, "capitalism".

The funniest though has to be psychological horror, given that is what troons are to everyone else.
the reddit subreddt of r/gamingcirclejerk is hilarious for this as they are banning anyone who mentions Hogwarts Legacy in anything but a disparaging light. Even asking when it's coming out or why they are against it is an instant ban.

It's currently the top seller on Steam before it's released and r/gamingcirclejerk are going ballastic with rage.

The only reasons for Jim to not cover it could be:
He's actually more intelligent than r/gamingcirclejerk and realises the Streisand Effect means ranting about it will publicise it
He gets so upset if he thinks about it that he shits himself and cries at the same time then gets chest pains and needs to lie down
The news is a little too new for him and he's been "working" on a video for the last few weeks
He realises that playing a game doesn't necessarily mean you support every single belief the creator has (yes, this is a joke entry to the list, as these would be the thoughts of a rational person)

That is the funniest part about it all really, the troons are going ballistic over something Rowling has had no involvement in directly, beyond being the author of the universe it's set it. The devs/WB have said quite frequently that she's not involved, presumably because they all think she's troon Hitler or whatever, but not evil enough to make money off of her work.

It's the same shit as the actors from the movies like Emma Watson are vomiting on social media. They are outraged at Rowling's anti troon stance, but not enough to take a moral stance against her like say giving all the money away that was made from the evil Rowling's movies.

He'll do something when the game is actually out and the rage will be hilarious.

I'm expecting him to come out and begrudgingly like the game, but score it low and hate on it publicly because it supports a person he doesn't like, and just tells everyone they should pirate it, as many times as they possibly can, because fuck the industry.

What did squeenix even do this time? I'm still salty they are neglecting the franchises I care about and just ignoring them otherwise.

I'd watch the video but I'd need to listen to Jim to do that.

That would require actually playing the game. Jim is probably ecstatic that JKR is a terf so he has an excuse to rate it a 0/10 without having to waste precious amhole time.

That subreddit is so fucking bad. Around 5-6 years ago it had some funny content making fun of the r/gaming subreddit but it got completely overrun by troons. Most of the content is just sucking troon dick and not even close to funny anymore.

They’re doubling down on their nfts. He might mention it in the video, but what would make an actually interesting video is how squeenix treated their non Japanese devs like complete shit. Setting unrealistic sales goals, and forcing stupid microtransactions into games where it didn’t fit. Now that a lot of those companies have been sold off or left I’m sure he could find a developer or two to interview. But you know, effort

Imagine needing to know the beliefs of every single person involved in a game, film, TV programme, etc. When buying the game, the money goes to many different people so you'd need to make sure none of them had ever said anything you disagree with before spending your money.
I posted something along these lines on Reddit and was told that "trans people are literally fearing for their lives over this" - no they aren't, or, if they are, then they are completely overreacting. No matter how much money JK Rowling puts into anti-trans groups (if she even is), none of them are going to gain any traction within the UK. People call the UK "TERF Island" but none of our major political parties want to kill trans people.

I said it before in the farms. These people will not be satisfied until Rowling is once again begging in the streets, and she pays for her ideals. Even if it means fucking over everyone that works using her IP. They are the same people that argue the Devs have been paid so it's perfectly fine for the game to bomb despite that causing Avalanche to close down, or lay off many employees. But they don't care because wE kIlED tHe TERF. This kind of mentality is what is making me wait for the game to come out, and sells very well. It will not be one of the highest sellers, but it'll be good enough for the devs to keep their work.

Honestly, I hope more fucked reviewers do that, it'll definitely help. Can you imagine calling yourself a professional games critic and not criticizing games? Like a carpenter that doesn't assemble wood.

This is a wide criticism than just Jim, so many games media creators these days seem to see videogames in some level of abject disdain, as some obstacle between them and their actual desire to proselytize to their audience. They resent that nobody will read their blather if its not vaguely attached to videogames.

To be fair, I don't think I've seen many new games that don't have that tag. The first one I noticed was back in 2016 when Ikea VR Experience got the tag. People love to add it to the most innocent sounding games.

They're seething so hard because they know JK Rowling is going to earn millions in royaties from this game and there's absolutely nothing they can do about it.

I'm starting to really miss the episodes where he would screech about fascism, "the right" and transphobia, like yeah it's shitty that a bunch of games with microtransactions from the same publisher were canned so soon and they start the year talking about NFTs, but we knew that. It's like there's two kinds of episodes, take Bobby Kotick video and replace name and autistic REEing. The latter being a joy to watch and we're long overdue for some I think.

I guess as @Corn Flakes said we gotta wait for the Harry Potter topic to age just right to have the perfect signature Jim Sterling™ flavor of irrelevancy.

Credit to Jim at the very least anyone retarded or deviant enough to actively search for these tags on Twitch would feel right at home with his streams.
