The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced they will step back as "senior" royals and work to become financially independent.

In a statement, Prince Harry and Meghan also said they plan to split their time between the UK and North America.

The BBC understands no other royal - including the Queen or Prince William - was consulted before the statement and Buckingham Palace is "disappointed".

Senior royals are understood to be "hurt" by the announcement.

In their unexpected statement on Wednesday, also posted on their Instagram page, the couple said they made the decision "after many months of reflection and internal discussions".

"We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

They said they plan to balance their time between the UK and North America while "continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages".

"This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity."

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said discussions with the duke and duchess on their decision to step back were "at an early stage", adding: "We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through."

The couple's announcement on Wednesday comes two months after the Duke of York withdrew from public life after a BBC interview about his ties to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who killed himself in August.

You have a point. This is the farms.

The only two people I've met in real life who talk about these people are a female coworker and an incredibly flamboyant gay man who occasionally shows up at bar outings and is a friend of a friend. No other amerimutts I know have ever mentioned these people at all.

Both of them love the mulatto chick the bongland inbred guy married, if that has any significance.

Regarding Meghan's "yacht girl" hooker period; when Meghan and Harry first got engaged, there were stories that circulated that Harry damn near beggered himself using the money his mom left him in her will buying up ALL known videos/photos of Meghan as a prostitute sex worker the couple knew about being out there, to keep it from leaking. Meaning he knows about it and part of their financial woes comes from the fact that Harry had to buy up the hooker tapes/photos with his own money due to Charles/Liz refusing to do it.

I don't think I believe that. Don't the people who try things like that usually do it so that they can send lawyers to aggressively copyright strike the material anytime it shows up online? That's fine if you're a rich dad trying to make sure your disgraceful whore of a daughter can get a real job one day, but with Meghan it's not just "a job" but marrying into one specific family. Even one slip-up would ruin things permanently, and there's no guarantee she could ever find all the videos in the first place. Even if she kept a list of every randy oil sheik who openly videotaped their sessions, there are probably still more stealth recordists she didn't know about.
I think it's more likely that Meghan was just not that big a deal as Dubai porta-potties go, not many people bothered taping her, and the ones that did have no desire to rock the boat and annoy the royal family when they probably aspire to those social circles themselves.

This whole book is the end result of a hellish combination; activist self-righteousness and royal entitlement, plus whatever other complexes are mixed in there for funsies.

If someone wanted to stop them, or was officially put into that position, they probably were overruled on removing any of the embarrassing stories because it's Harry's Truth(tm), even if that truth is he thought about his mother when slathering his dick in cream.
