Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

I also think it was just a joke scene with very bad taste, I'd also consider the magic trannies as japanese humor too. Honestly, I think it would be awesome if Nintendo released a small remake of Mothet 3 with the same art direction that Zalda game got, Link's Awakening iirc. However with the current political climate, it's obvious why Nintendo has intentionally ignored Mother 3, and maybe it's better to leave it as a easily pirated game.

It does have some official endorsement. Didn't one of the developers of Mother 3 help with the fan translation?

I don’t think so. The closest I’ve heard is that some Nintendo employees were looking forward to it before its release, along with an email from the translation team warning them that if they released the translation, it would nullify any desire from Nintendo to localize it themselves; the sender is unknown, but highly suspected to be someone from Nintendo. Also, Lucas’s Smash VA recorded a line of dialogue for later versions of the translation.

It’s a GBA game that was released in Japan in 2006. The GBA was already all but dead everywhere else, and it would have taken at least another few months to localize it. Though for what it’s worth, Reggie said in an interview last year that even before he joined Nintendo, it was already decided that Mother 3 would be Japan-only.

EDIT: Last year; it’s not 2022 anymore

Back to the Switch though, a lot of shovelware games do run steep discounts and it annoys me greatly to see them all, but since there's no user reviews on the Nintendo storefront I have to go out of my way to find out which game is ass or is a hidden gem.
I'm glad I dont have to look at other people's opinons. I rely on recommendation algorithms but it sometimes does these passive aggressive insults like saying I might enjoy Undertale. If a game's ad blurb was obviously written by the same guy that programmed it, I give the game special consideration.

"See its not a tranny molesting a little boy, it's a magical faerie that only looks like a 46yo man with a five o'clock shadow"
"Don't struggle"
"Just endure it for a little bit!"
"Just a little more!"
And when the scene fades back in from the black screen Lucas is face down in the water.
It's bad form to gloat but feels pretty good being a Froggerchad when this is the alternative.

What does everyone make of the current rumors circulating that a new Switch is in production? Some of the obsessive Nintendo consoomer streamers have been going on about it a lot, one claiming he has a leak from an “usually reliable insider,” etc. said it should be ready by ‘24.

I think that it is very likely that it has been in r&d for a couple of years now, if they for example started its development a little before covid then it may have been delayed for one or two years, I dont think we will see it this year, but maybe after zelda which seems like a good game to cap off a console.

Something new is always being worked on. However the Switch is still selling like hotcakes, especially in the Grorious Nippon, so there’s no market incentive to release it now. It was a seven year time period between the release of the DS and 3DS, for instance. I suspect it will come out in late 2024 at the earliest, likely 2025.

I think the challenge will be why get a Switch 2 at all if people mostly play it as a handheld. Most people don’t know what the fuck 4K is and it’ll have to be a handheld/console hybrid because Nintendo has merged those two markets. A Switch 2 that is basically a Switch Pro is unlikely to move the needle, they’re going to need more than that.

I think it will eventually happen, but “insiders” are just making the same prediction over and over until it eventually happens and they can say they were totally right from the start for real.

But it was 4.5 years between the DS and DSi, and 3.5 years between the 3DS and New 3DS. It feels too late for a Switch Pro, but not late enough for a Switch 2, given that sales haven’t really slowed down.

The Switch OLED that came out in 2021 is the closest things are going to get to a Switch Pro.

Not only have hardware sales not slowed down, their best selling game is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a port of a 2014 Wii U game, and it’s sold about 50 million copies. Looking at the best selling games list*, none of them really push the Switch that hard. So Nintendo’s true motivation to release a Switch 2 may very well be just needing to release a new Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. Nintendo has an autistic rule about one mainline Mario Kart, Smash Bros., etc. per platform but they probably could just release Mario Kart 9 on Switch and extend the Switch’s lifespan by a couple years.

Do we know how many people actually play the Switch as a handheld device?

Back in October 2017, Nintendo's own data suggested that 30% of players used the Switch almost exclusively in handheld mode versus 20% who played in docked mode only, with the remaining 50% of players who switched between the two. They haven't said if it's changed since then.

They've also said shit like the gameboy brand wasn't going to die when the ds's success was obvious. At the same time, the DS was basically the same system until the 3ds, and even then it was compatible with previous ds games just because of the pure success of the platform, and Nintendo still gave a shit about real backwards compatibility.

The Game Boy comment was just insurance in case the DS failed; DS was always meant to be the successor. And I think they said something early on about the Switch being a “third pillar” to console and handheld, in the off chance that people didn’t like the idea of a hybrid. The pattern seems to be that Nintendo says these things as a defensive measure in case something falls through, not as an offensive measure to assure people of upcoming success.

What makes you think they don’t give a shit now? The Switch can’t exactly have a disc drive or comfortably handle two-screen games. I’d bet just about anything that a hypothetical Switch 2 would definitely play original Switch games.
